to ask how you keep track of everything?

I am utter shit for brains lately. I am really struggling with remembering things. A few examples as of late: I remembered last week I was sure my depo jab was around now sometime, called the GP and it's next Monday. Wasn't written down anywhere so I could have missed it. I remembered on Monday that my car is soon due it's MOT. It expires next Weds. Luckily got it booked in hastily and it passed. Son has his first year jabs tomorrow and this was diarised but I have to keep reminding myself about it.

I seem to have such a scatter brain right now. I dont know why. I used to be so organised. How do you keep track of everything?

I use my phone, everything goes in the calender and then I check it daily - every morning. For important stuff I put in a reminder a week before so I have an idea when it's happening and can sort out any necessary arrangements.

For other stuff I have lists on my phone and work through them so things are ready for when they are needed ( my sons school has a lot going on and lots of stuff to brings no so this is necessary) .

marmaladegranny · 16/09/2015 14:29

Lists, on paper, to tick off.

Every appointment + reminder an appropriate time before, goes on my phone the minute it is made.
Things I need to remember (pay bill, dog's wormer, make xx appointment) go on phone calendar, again with reminder.

If my phone dies I will have a major problem ??...

NormHonal · 16/09/2015 14:29

Also my phone. If I lost it everything would go to shit. And as PP said, I use the calendar, reminders, notes and lists.

ShadowLine · 16/09/2015 14:30

Have you got an electronic calendar that you can access easily? You can set up annual reminders on those for things like MOTs. Put details of appointments etc in as soon as you get them, and set up reminders for a few days or whatever before the date.

Paper calendars in the kitchen or hall or somewhere you can easily check daily - write in appointments etc as you get them, look at the calendar every day.

I know someone who has a big whiteboard in their kitchen that they write these things on, and that also seems like a good method provided it's regularly updated and checked.

Paper diaries are fine if you look at them, but I tend to stick mine in my bag or on the bedside table and forget to check it.

steppemum · 16/09/2015 14:37

calendar, I use a paper one, some people use their phone, every single thing goes on as soon as you know about it. So I already have, next to the bottom part of december, the things I have to remember for january (dentist etc)

AliceScarlett · 16/09/2015 14:38

Google calendar, syncs across all my devices, reminds me before hand, colour coded! Impossible to lose as its on the internet.

Katedotness1963 · 16/09/2015 14:40

Paper Calendar with the big daily boxes. Write everything on it as soon as you get/make an appointment or plans. Hang it by the front door where everyone can see it.

cjt110 · 16/09/2015 14:43

I have had paper ones before and like ShadowLine says, I use it at the beginning of the year whilst it's new and novel and it'd died a death by Feb and in a drawer/bag somewhere.

AliceScarlett I wonder if Windows phone has the same function?

Why oh why have I gone so scatter brained SadHmm

I have a calendar that hangs in the kitchen beside the sink - everything goes on it - school meetings, dentist/Dr appt, parties, working hours (my husband works shifts which can change). I also have a diary but have got out of the way of using it.

Sazzle41 · 16/09/2015 14:47

A3 notebook always kept in coffee table drawer (dont take it everywhere you are bound to lose it) with 1page To Do list per week or per day if you need, for stuff like buy cats flea stuff/wormer or tell landlord grill not working any more . Appointments go on work calendar or mobile calendar so no chance of forgetting. Make all payments direct debits and bank on line, manually paying stuff is time out of your schedule better spent on other thigns.

MelanieCheeks · 16/09/2015 14:49

Google calendar. Also a desk diary as back up.

Sazzle41 · 16/09/2015 14:49

A5 notebook even !

chelle792 · 16/09/2015 14:52

sazzle I was thinking "wow A3, I want one" Grin

Snossidge · 16/09/2015 14:54

I use google calendar on my computer and windows phone. It also has a task list that I can tick off - and it can be accessed by boyfriend too.

cjt110 · 16/09/2015 14:55

I use my iPhone calendar, notes and reminders and alarms (phew!) My phone is forever beeping and boining telling me I need to do something.

I back it up to the PC too just in case (at work)

I also have the 'Not on the High Street' wipe clean calendar system on my kitchen wall which I check every evening and up-date against my phone.

It's exhusting but it's the only way I've found which means I never miss a thing.

I used to have one of those enormous filofaxes in the 90s - nearly broke my arm lugging that around. It was good though.

fabulousfanny · 16/09/2015 14:57

Forgot to say, I also have a massive year planner on my bedroom wall which I glare at obsess over every night. Keeps me focused though.

lushilaoshi · 16/09/2015 14:57

Good old fashioned handwritten notebook and diary (which you need to look at and update everyday, otherwise there's not point).

For work appointments and meetings I use my Outlook calendar.

ModernContinental · 16/09/2015 14:59

Your windows phone will have a calendar, which is great.

I use it, it synchs with my laptop & my ipad.
I also use sticky notes on my laptop desktop for reminders or whatever.

Moneywise I use Microsoft Money, free to download, which . I can also has advanced bill features meaning all upcoming deposits, bills etc can be easily seen. I can also see how my cashflow looks weeks, months even years ahead.

Wall calendar in the kitchen too which I also keep up to date.

youngestisapsycho · 16/09/2015 15:00

I have a Windows phone.... I use the calendar all the time. I'm sure it links with my laptop too? (will check that) As soon as I make an appointment or know something is happening on a certain date I put it in the phone. You can set it to remind you anything from a week or a day before.

cjt110 · 16/09/2015 15:03

Oh you are all so organised - unlike me. I used to be, until DS came along lol.

Thankyou for your suggestions. I am now trying to think of things to put in my Calendar on my phone lol

I have a windows phone - I use the calendar and it syncs to my Google calendar (but you can use just the phone one or have it sync with hotmail/outlook if you use that).

Set regular reminders - even for which bin day it is etc. Very useful.

Also use a lot of to-do lists and a wall calendar.

cjt110 · 16/09/2015 15:05

wasonthelist I notice you can set reminders for ahead of the appointment etc. If I set it for say 1 week before, once it alerts me, can I change it to say 18 hours before?

OP posts:
wasonthelist · 16/09/2015 15:19

Mine lets me "snooze" once it's reminded me - there are various options depending on how long before the event is. I don't think I can say "tell me 18 hours before" at that point - but Google calendar allows me to set multiple reminders, so for stuff like car insurance, MOT etc, I set one for 2 weeks before to make sure I have booked/got quotes, one for a couple of days (in case I missed the first one somehow) and a last chance one !

0ddsocks · 16/09/2015 15:23

I use a mixture of google calendar and a great little iPhone app called 'toodledo'
