Took DD to weekly toddler gym session at local leisure centre. There is a class on beforehand so we have to queue outside - glass wall looking into gym and further glass wall overlooking swimming pool - there are 20 toddlers in the class - ages 2 to 3 years. Not much space to queue, filled with 20 adults, children, buggies etc.

Anyway, one of the toddlers says she needs a poo - luckily toilets are opposite to where we are queuing - ladies, gents, family /baby change/disabled. Well, the mum gets a potty out of a carrier bag and sits it down where they are in queue, pulls down toddlers clothing and sits her on it! In middle of queue, in full view of people already in gym and those in pool. Toddler proceeds to poo.......

Fully appreciate how hard it can be toilet training and that all children are different - some might not like sitting on a 'big toilet' for instance but should the mum not have taken the potty into the toilets or somewhere a bit more private? I was a bit Shock. I am toilet training my DD at the moment so am not unsympathetic - when they need to go, they need to go but some places are more appropriate than others!!

Bleurgh. I suppose it's possible the child has a history of only speaking up when matters are truly imminent rather than having thirty seconds spare to run to the loo, but otherwise the mother was BU. And pretty grim! I do think you should try and get to a loo if at all possible.

Someone at DS's previous school did this with their precious DD. In church. Problem is, their darling DD is perfectly toilet trained, and was to start school a few months down the line - the mother just didn't want to miss the school service by taking her to the back of the church where the toilets were, so let her crap in a potty in the aisle, in front of the whole school and a large percentage of the parents. Hmm

Delightful!

Parents of young children become totally desensitised to their DC's excrement.

They'd raise merry hell if you expected them to tolerate your waste in a public arena, but they totally expect you to tolerate their DC's.

And then they make out you're over-reacting when you express distaste.

The cognitive dissonance involved is quite something...

No she should have guided her toddler to the toilet as they were so near, I would only do that, if there were no toilets nearby, I was out in a park, even then a porta potty, that you can bag up the contents and throw in the bin.

pudcat omg - where do you stay?!?

christine no one in the queue did anything - I was ready to tut and share my judgey face with everyone but no one reacted - we are new to class so guess this is maybe a regular thing and all used to it!

mimsy speechless at poo in church and cringe for poor child she was there to watch - imagine performing and seeing your sibling pooing in the aisle - NO just NO so wrong.

This reminded me of when I was in McDonalds toilets in Beijing and a lady lifted her toddler to poo IN THE BIN when there was an empty toilet cubicle right behind her...

Yanbu, so disgusting! Some people think we are all in it together, that everyone cares whether your child is potty trained or not. Keep the stink to yourself and do it in private. And the poor child had to sit there in front of everyone!!

BettyBi0 · 17/09/2015 15:24

I know Bob all about potty training as my LO isn't old enough yet but I've seen a few people whipping potties out lately in public places. Once in the middle of Asda!! I assumed it was a new yummy mummy craze

loveandsmiles · 18/09/2015 11:02

Gosh, I thought public pooing at leisure centre was bad but McDonald's and Asda is even worse (if that's possible Grin)

I live overseas, and yesterday in Starbucks I saw a lady take out a clear plastic bag filled with cat litter or sand and hold it in front of her toddler son so he could piss into it. When he was done, the lady got up from her table, tied the bag up, and dropped it into the bin.

This is from our local facebook page today
was shocked to see a woman drop her trousers, squat and relieve herself on the public footpath down ......... Avenue today - disgusting when town park toilets are less than a 10 min walk away...........
