to not see a problem with men using robots for sex

Yes, its a bit sad and perverted, but I can't see how a glorified sex doll hurts anyone. I would be horrified if a sex doll looked like a child. However if a really sad sexually frustrated man masturbates with a sex doll that looks like a grown adult, no one is getting hurt.

I don't think it that robots will be sophisicated enough to replace a real spouse in my life time.

Atwood would be more suitable.

Handmaidens Tale ? (Goes off to see if it was a film)

TenForward82 · 15/09/2015 16:58

We studied Handmaid's Tale at GCSE. Mega awk for a classroom of teenagers. But all that aside, chilling story.

You could always get your sexbot to read it to you.

Have you seen La Lectrice Smile. Ok, not a robot, but a literary sex worker ....

LurkingHusband · 15/09/2015 17:04

It's what first suggested Maupassant to me Hmm

LurkingHusband · 15/09/2015 17:06

We studied Handmaid's Tale at GCSE.

(Potential outing fact here) We did "The Tenant of Wildfell Hall". quite a revolutionary novel in it's stark depiction of the oppression of women.

(Definite outing fact) I failed O level Eng. Lit ....

"Notice I didn't actually say what my views are"

Well, you should. That's kind of the point - an exchange of views, not a lordly chairing.

This makes me sad. Having sex with a woman bot is simulating rohypnol rape, a crime. Having sex with a child bot would be simulating child abuse, a crime. Not sure why some posters are distinguishing.

And why are you busting out old Star Trek references? When Spike was having sex with the Buffy bot, was that empowering for Buffy, or fuelling his obsession, stalking and eventual attempted rape of her?

noblegiraffe · 15/09/2015 17:24

If cheaply available sex robots put all prostitutes out of business, would that improve or worsen the situation for women in general?

"He told the BBC that he hopes Roxxxy will eventually become a self-learning engine that is able to talk to her owner and learn his likes or dislikes."

Doesn't sound like that's the plan for the launch model...

Rape under hypnosis - also illegal.

PerspicaciaTick · 15/09/2015 17:43

I can't help thinking of Howard

Raj: "You slipped and fell into a robot hand?"
Howard: "Yes"
Raj: "Penis first?"

Happy to complain about those too, but it's not the subject of the thread.

Men on the thread, if money was no object, how many of your mates do you think would get one of these?

YonicScrewdriver · 15/09/2015 18:02

And we all draw our line somewhere between "masturbatory aid" and "malleable sex recipient". I put "request" web cams in the latter group, for example; YMMV.

I'm not sure how I feel about a lifelike doll, something does feel innately wrong about it, but it's hard to decide why exactly that is.

I am aware that there are 'fucking machines' for men and women which use a dildo on the end of a piston type thingie (not sure how to describe them). Although it's not the same as a robot, it seems to be a precursor, and it doesn't have the same innate wrongness about it for me, so I am thinking it must be the fact that it resembles something human (are they just making female robots?).

The desire for sex and orgasms independently from a partner is not always a negative thing, I'm currently alone through choice after an abusive relationship, I don't think I could enter into a healthy relationship right now, but I am also disabled and have some fairly complex genital/urological issues that make me feel anxious about the idea of casual sex.

Sometimes basic masturbation only exacerbates the frustration, because for some reason I find it inferior to intercourse. I do wonder if something that mimicked conventional intercourse/foreplay might be something I'd consider. It resembling another human being would be a definite turnoff for me though. I am happy with my sex toy being a sex toy.

Yes, absolutely, Buffy.

YonicScrewdriver · 15/09/2015 18:32

"if it looks human you have to switch off a bit of your own humanity to treat it as less than human

I wondered how long until religion got involved ..."

Although chairperson Lurking claimed this was a religious point, it clearly was not.
