to think our dog needs a vet?

Two weeks ago I noticed our dog was limping after I walked her. She had been swimming in a lake so could have caught it on something underwater or strained it jumping out. The limp went after two days of rest but then returned after I walked her. She yelped when I touched near there when playing and though she's happy in herself, she's still not putting weight on it. I've let her rest and haven't walked her for ten days.

DP says I'm overreacting because she's happy but I think she needs a vet because shes still limping after ten days. I don't have any money to take her btw, otherwise I'd have doneso way before now.

YANBU she needs to see a vet.

Floralnomad · 12/09/2015 23:50

Yes she needs a vet , would your OH not seek medical attention if he was in pain and limping for 10 days ?

ilovesooty · 12/09/2015 23:53

Yes she needs a vet. Your OH needs to pay for it if you can't.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 12/09/2015 23:54

If you are receiving benefits e.g. Housing benefit you might be able to get free treatment through the PDSA.

wowfudge · 12/09/2015 23:54

She may have a fracture in one of her leg bones. Animals are pretty good at masking things and carrying on, it's a survival thing. Please take her to the vets.

SmugairleRoin · 12/09/2015 23:54

Oh yes definitely bring the poor thing to the vet!

gamerchick · 12/09/2015 23:55

Ring your vet and tell them the issue to see if something can be sorted. If you're on benefits then go to the pdsa.

She needs a vet.

Then sort out insurance.

Yes she needs a vet, and has for a few days. Somehow you need to find that money, beg or borrow it somehow? I hope she's ok.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 13/09/2015 00:03

I've just read your other thread Fish
poor blighter .
She's limped for ten days and yelps if you touch her leg.
She needs a vet, even if it's complete rest and a painkiller/anti-inflamantory injection get her seen.

You have a credit card - use it.

Actually you are in breaking the law by allowing an animal to suffer.
Stuff what your DP says. He can do without whatever he thinks he should have to enable your dog to have her basic right which is Pain relief.

And, I have to wonder why you post this at near midnight on a Saturday.
You are obviously worried about her.

I've just read your other thread as well, Fish. Your dog needs a vet. If your H won't pay please make sure he knows that he can be prosecuted for allowing an animal to suffer. He might also want to think about pet insurance.
I haven't posted on your other thread but you could have been me 6 years ago. I am now a single parent and although money is tight I am in control of it and my budget allows me to take the dog to the vet.

Agree with 70

honeyroar · 13/09/2015 00:37

If people are referring to the thread I think they are, this should be the final straw. You need to get the dog, the children and yourself away from this controlling man. This should be a massive red flag. Your judgement has gone. Poor dog having to suffer for so long because of this man. I don't like dogs having to be rehomed, but if you can't leave this man perhaps you should contact a rescue and a home that will care for the dog properly could be arranged.

shadowfax07 · 13/09/2015 00:44

I'd have taken the dog to the vets after the third day of non weight-bearing, to be honest, if it isn't getting better in 3 days, then it needs medical attention.

CalmYourselfTubbs · 13/09/2015 00:53

Poor little dog :(
I hate reading things like this.
i could never watch an animal suffer like that.
please, please take this poor dog to the vet.

Your husband is a tight, cruel bastard.

I have nowhere near his income, and I bought v expensive pet insurance as soon as I got my dog, for precisely this reason.

People like your husband make me very angry.

littlefrenchonion · 13/09/2015 06:36

Your husband is BU. She needs a vet. And pet insurance. As with many health issues, the longer you leave it, the worse it'll probably get (and therefore the more expensive it'll be to treat).

If you are entitled to benefits, the PDSA may help you this time. If not, beg, borrow, pawn, credit card...?

Once again: pet insurance, please. I'm a vet nurse and see this all too often. She'll probably be ok this time but what would you do next time if it is much more serious? Have her put to sleep? That will be the reality sadly.

londonrach · 13/09/2015 07:03

Poor dog. Vet asap please

Booboostwo · 13/09/2015 07:40

You know the dog needs to see the vet ASAP. I have read your other thread and feel for you - you are in a very difficult situation but at the same time you have vulnerable dependants you need to look after and that includes your dog.

My dog was on three legs last week, was at the vets the next day, he had stepped on a nail, wound needed flushing, antibiotics and ten days later he is fine. Had I left it the infection could have gotten out of control which would have made it a much more serious and costly problem.

Nectarines · 13/09/2015 07:45

My dog had the same symptoms and it turned out to be an infection in a tiny wound. She needed injections of antibiotics.

I'd take the dog to be checked out.

Nectarines · 13/09/2015 07:49

Also, we have claimed twice on our pet insurance and still only pay around £9 a month for it. She's 8 and accident prone! I thought of it as part and parcel of the costs of having a pet. To us it's an essential as we could rarely cover large bills in one go.
