to think our dog needs a vet?

Two weeks ago I noticed our dog was limping after I walked her. She had been swimming in a lake so could have caught it on something underwater or strained it jumping out. The limp went after two days of rest but then returned after I walked her. She yelped when I touched near there when playing and though she's happy in herself, she's still not putting weight on it. I've let her rest and haven't walked her for ten days.

DP says I'm overreacting because she's happy but I think she needs a vet because shes still limping after ten days. I don't have any money to take her btw, otherwise I'd have doneso way before now.

Vets. without delay.

Do you know there's a dog section of this site? www.mumsnet.com/Talk/the_doghouse

Of course your dog needs a vet, but having read your other thread this goes way beyond that. The issue is your DP.

The poor dog has needed a vet for a long time.

You can take the dog to a charity if you qualify.

Most vets will offer payment plans.

If you can't afford veterinary treatment for the poor dog, then you shouldn't have one sadly.

honeyroar · 13/09/2015 13:19

This isn't a case of a family on benefits that can't afford it, the family is well off, but the man won't allow the OP much spending money. There should be plenty of money to pay for treatment but he won't hand it over.

OP where are you? Any updates??

WhatTheJeffHasGoneOnHere · 13/09/2015 13:57

Op, your DP'a abusive behaviour is affecting you, your DCs and your poor dog. You really have to get out.

TenForward82 · 13/09/2015 14:52

So many threads on here are cover for "my DP is an ass".

Take the dog to the vet. Rehome it if you can't afford to take care of it. And LTB.

If you decide that DP is actually just P and are considering making him ex-P, look into fostering services for dogs if you need some temporary help. The Dogs Trust Freedom Project is only available in certain areas of the country and seems to be targeted at women who have been the subject of physical rather than financial abuse, but they may know of a group in your area who could help.

I hope the dog has been treated by now.

TheoriginalLEM · 13/09/2015 16:48

If that had been her just knocking her foot or pulling a muscle she would not be still lame.

Sudden lameness can be a sign of bone cancer - it probably isn't but id want my dog checked out.

How can your DH leave your dog in pain for ten days??? dogs are very stoic and wont yell out in pain unless its very acute and painful so your dog is just being brave.

TweedAddict · 13/09/2015 16:59

Rule of thumb if limping then rest for 2 days then vets. If not weight bearing at all vets within 24hrs. That's what we were advised by our vet when ours was abit lame
