Does this sound okay for a 6yo ds bday "party"?

Money is very tight this year, but ds wants a "party" for his 6th.

He's asked that his friends come round, they have pizza and chips and they just play in his room/on the wii. With music.

He's invited 5 friends with some minecraft invites.

I will do party bags.

But I'm worried that it will look pathetic.

He's so excited though!

sounds good

OP, this was every single party of my childhood. You went to the persons house, played, ate cake went home.
And we all loved it!
I think it sounds great.
You could include some 'organised' games, like pin the tail on the donkey,or if you have a goal, put a grown up in, everyone gets say,3 turns, whoever scores the most wins? DS could colour a picture of a donkey, use a sock as a tail?
Balloons are always a hit. As are crackers, you might get some Halloween style ones somewhere?

Thank you for the ideas!

He wants a "minecraft party" so going to try and make some minecraft decorations. He wants a pizza from dominos lol.

Fine. My DD went to one like this last year and loved it....just get some balloons and throw them about...they all love a balloon! Dominos pizza will be fab too

OneDay103 · 12/09/2015 11:15

Maybe you can do some minecraft decorated cupcakes? Honestly it sounds fine. Kids just want to play.

malloo · 12/09/2015 12:48

We always do parties like this and they're great, low cost, easy to do and the kids love them. Round here it's the norm to invite the whole class to some place at enormous expense but I have to say that even if I could afford that I wouldn't. Of course the kids have fun at those things but they're all the same, and when you look back on them you can never even remember which child's birthday it was! At your own house it's different, your child gets to be host and show their friends all their stuff and just hang out rather than having the whole thing directed by adults. Plus you can give them better food! After DD's 6th party this year, several kids were apparently hassling their mums for parties at home tooSmile. Go for it, sure your DS will love it.

Sounds lovely. I would have done this for DS if our house wasn't always such a tip.

harboromummy · 12/09/2015 12:51

Thank you all!! Xx

maybe do a pass the parcel with fun 'forfeits' (e.g. make an animal noise, hop on one leg til the music stops) and tiny fun size sweet in each layer?

harboromummy · 12/09/2015 12:52

My house is a tip lol. I'm gutting his room today, it's awful! It smells like a teenagers room already!

MummySparkle · 12/09/2015 12:53

Sounds perfect!

SmugairleRoin · 12/09/2015 12:54

That sounds lovely op, parties don't have to be a big production. Agree with the others about some classic party games, and maybe a scavenger hunt?

Aeroflotgirl · 12/09/2015 12:57

Sounds absolutely wonderful, his kids parties should be, not parents trying to have he most biggest and best party in the class.

KurriKurri · 12/09/2015 12:58

That's how all my kids parties were when they were little, and they went fine. If you are worried about them amusing themselves for the whole time have a couple of party games up your sleeve for emergencies (nothing complicated - musical statues or Simon says or something will do fine).

NoMilkNoSugar · 12/09/2015 13:07

Get on pinterest and look up minecraft party ideas. That will give you lots of ideas for cheap games and themed food. I did similar for Ds when he had a star wars themed party- bread sticks were labelled as lightsabres, a bowl of jelly had a han solo figure stuck in the middle and became cryonite, I'm sure you get the idea.

Turquoisedance · 12/09/2015 13:14

You could hang up green, brown and black balloons and make bunting of the same colours in squares to look like minecraft pixels.

Turquoisedance · 12/09/2015 13:17

Love these cupcakes

That's exactly what ds3 did for his 9th birthday. They played in his room, ate food and played in his room again. I got some filled Minecraft party bags from Amazon that were quite reasonably priced and added cake and a sweetie. They were a great hit.

gingerdad · 12/09/2015 13:27

We did this only difference was they made their own pizzas. We'd made the dough. They the made whatever shape they wanted and added what ever toppings. Could make mine craft pizzas.

LunchpackOfNotreDame · 12/09/2015 14:22

Sounds good. We started doing picnic parties at 7 or 8 and just hijacked a corner of a park/playing field, let the kids loose and fed them party food for 2 hours.

Floggingmolly · 12/09/2015 14:28

Absolutely fine. I knocked myself out for dd's (pfb) first few parties; when she was 7 she begged for her friends to just come round with no entertainers / organised agenda. They just wanted the novelty of a larger than usual playdate....

SnobblyBobbly · 12/09/2015 14:37

I'm planning a 5yo Minecraft Party at the moment - SO many game ideas on Pinterest!

Ours is in a hall so need to decorate it a bit. I bought plain green bunting and will be merrily drawing creeper faces on it as I watch TV this evening.
