to buy a cloak?

Full disclosure, I am a Harry Potter fan.

They look so cosy and warm! I want to swish about the place in a mid-length cloak/hooded cape and feel magical.

DH thinks I will look like a twit but he's stupid.

I'll look fabulous won't I?

I used to have an amazing purple velvet hooded poncho cloak type thing when I was younger. It was wonderful. I had loads of long patchwork and velvet hippy skirts, floaty tops and used a lot of henna in my hair.

I still have a lot of long skirts but sadly the poncho is long gone.

Must find the time to do my hair again though, I love my hair with henna.

I've been on about cloaks for years. I was getting links and even sewing patterns sent to me by friends. So I crocheted myself one. I might go further and do a bigger one next time. I so wish they would come back...

Pipbin · 12/09/2015 18:25

Can we have a link to it OP?

PotOfYoghurt · 12/09/2015 19:05

Oh now I want one. Confused

AccioGin · 12/09/2015 19:22

Coco thanks for the name change inspiration!

OP definitely get the coat!

MerryHippogriffs · 12/09/2015 19:30

I love the idea of cloaks, and wish hey were 'normal' wear these days.

I wear a lot of very long, billowy cardigans that give a sort of cloaky vibe without people staring at me in the street.

OstentatiousBreastfeeder · 12/09/2015 20:36

Oooh I'm loving all the cloak-wanting.

I can't find a link to it. It was in an independent clothes shop on my highstreet and they have a website, but it's not on it Sad

It's a bit like this but navy and with a fur-trim hood, and a little bit longer. Soo.. not really like this at all Grin I pick it up on Wednesday.

I have a fabulous cloak:) I bought it when I was prgnt with DC1 and nothing else would go round me and keep me warm:)

I looked like a giant black mushroom and I stood at the side of the road at a zebra crossing in the snow with cars whizzing past ignoring the short and incredibly dumpy woman. Until I undid the cloak and showed off my enormous bump. Cars screeched to a halt:)

You could get a silver topped walking stick as well, and swish about:)

WhoTheFuckIsSimon · 12/09/2015 20:49

I tried a cloak on in Accessorize today. Had a detachable fur trim. But it didn't do up, no arm holes and I thought it would just fall off all the time.

WhoTheFuckIsSimon · 12/09/2015 20:53

Actually ive just looked in their website and it's more of a poncho. I want a cloak. Cloaks beat ponchos I reckon.

I concur with this and I had boys bowing too but this was also about 20 years ago. Grin just get one.

autumnintheair · 12/09/2015 20:54

autumnintheair · 12/09/2015 20:56

Dawndonnaagain · 12/09/2015 20:57

I too had a cloak as part of my school uniform. Absolutely hated it.

WhoTheFuckIsSimon · 12/09/2015 20:59

cape

lucjam2015 · 12/09/2015 20:59

I had a Scottish Widows hooded cape when I got married at -28 degrees on 26 December. It was lovely. Now its sat rotting in the loft Sad

FyreFly · 12/09/2015 21:02

I have a stunning floor length green wool cloak which I made myself. I wear it to parties / re-enactment events and for work at Christmas (we do Victorian Christmas tours). But I wish I could wear it more often. I.e. most days! However I suspect people would laugh at me....

OstentatiousBreastfeeder · 12/09/2015 21:02

Oh my WhoTheFuck, that is beautiful...

WhoTheFuckIsSimon · 12/09/2015 21:04

Perfect isn't it. Thankfully at that price they don't have it in my size.

OstentatiousBreastfeeder · 12/09/2015 21:05

Here Autumn, it's in America though.

I have a lovely swishy black wool cloak, and wear it a fair bit. Sometimes I do the school run on a scooter, wearing my cloak. Half of mn would think me quite ridiculous, but fuck em.

You do need a muff to go with your cloak really, otherwise you get chilly arms and hands. And what's not to like about muff jokes opportunities?

HorsesDogsNails · 12/09/2015 21:15

I wore a dark green silk cape over my wedding dress when I got married, November wedding, didn't want a veil, loved it!! I wear a poncho a lot and now I really want a cloak for everyday wear..... Maybe I should crochet myself one!

TheMotherOfHellbeasts · 12/09/2015 21:18

susiella I had one of my dogs with me at the time, and I did think about setting him on them, pretty hard to laugh with eighteen stone of snarling dog pinning you down, but I think I did look too much like Adam Ant to take the moral high ground Blush

Mellifera · 12/09/2015 21:22

I wish I'd had the idea of wearing a cloak at my December, -10 degrees wedding. Imagining the pictures of wedding dress & cloak in the snow Grin

I have a long black cloak I used to wear for HP dressing up (ex teacher), and my DS has a medium length black velvet cloak for his HP camps (playing Hogwarts in a castle). Maybe I should have that one dry cleaned and wear it this winter.
The Hallhuber one looks very cool.
Let's start a cloak trend!

PolishRemoverOfNail · 12/09/2015 22:26

Someone upthread mentioned the Ted Baker one, its camel coloured and gorgeous. I've coveted it for the last two years but at £250 its out of my price range.

I keep dropping hints to DH but nothing. :( I really want a cape now.
