AIBU? I already know the answer, I think.

If something was planned for the 10th to the 17th but was moved back a week would you think that meant back to the 3rd to 10th or back to the 17th to 24th.

Is moving something from the 10th to the 17th to the 3rd to the 10th moving it back a week or forward a week?

Does this question make any sense at all?

I forgot to add the AIBU... AIBU to think moving something back a week means moving it further away from the current date?

Moving it back a week is moving it later in time. So in your example, 17-24.

Purplepoodle · 11/09/2015 19:42

Lower number equals back

SlowlyGoingINSAINIA · 11/09/2015 19:42

17th to 24th.

Bluecheese22 · 11/09/2015 19:42

To me moving back would be 17th-24th!

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 11/09/2015 19:42

The later week

confusedandemployed · 11/09/2015 19:43

To me it would be 3-10th!

confusedandemployed · 11/09/2015 19:43

Although I can see I'm most likely wrong...

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 11/09/2015 19:44

Moving it forward would be 3rd to 10th

Doublebubblebubble · 11/09/2015 19:44

The later week to me too x

CatMilkMan · 11/09/2015 19:44

5 for me 2 for DP so far.

Another vote for later here as well, otherwise you would be bringing it forward wouldn't you?!

cremeeggboycotter · 11/09/2015 19:45

17th to 24th. Moving it forward would be bringing it closer in time.

tbf though I really had to think about it for a moment so I could see how a miscommunication could happen and would have expected dates to be confirmed.

Which one were you?

budgiegirl · 11/09/2015 19:45

17th to 24th is moving it back. 3rd to 10th is moving it forward.

Because you would PUSH it back, but BRING it forward.

Boardingblues · 11/09/2015 19:46

Moving it to 3-10th would be moving it forward.

Moving it back (meaning to postpone) would be 17-24th.

cremeeggboycotter · 11/09/2015 19:46

Ah I see. I do agree with you but I can see how it may have looked the other way if you aren't really thinking on it-especially if it was just a passing comment..

AnonymousBird · 11/09/2015 19:47

Back = away, ie. the later week. Obviously!

Back = the later week.

NotDavidTennant · 11/09/2015 19:49

Moving something back means making it later and bringing something forward means make it sooner. I've never ever heard it used the other way around.

HicDraconis · 11/09/2015 19:49

Moving something back a week is doing it a week later (so towards the end of the month). Moving something forward a week is doing it a week earlier (towards the start of the month).

So if plan is 10-17 and you put it back a week, it moves from 17-24.

If you move it to 3-10, that's bringing it forward a week.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 11/09/2015 19:50

Back = later here too.

iwouldgoouttonight · 11/09/2015 19:50

Moving it back is definitely 17th-24th. I know this is right but I can't get my head around it. To me if you say moving it back it sounds like moving it back in time, so to an earlier date. But I know I'm wrong. Causes endless confusion in meetings at work.

CatMilkMan · 11/09/2015 19:52

I was pretty sure I was right but I did have a split second of thinking I was insane.

Heh. This is why I avoid moving dates back & forth Grin I push and pull them instead. This seems to be universally understood, whether I push it forward or back.

Now you'll all tell me you understand different things, won't you?!
