To find the smell of fag smoke yuck

Im stood behind a very pleasant man in the queue in a cafe. But the awful smell of stale cigarette smoke from him actually made me feel sick. I've never been a smoker and I know a lot of smokers who don't smell. So what is it that makes some smokers stink? Honestly it was awful. Yuck!

No, you're right, you haven't, you just went off on a weird tangent about ticket machines and dictatorships.

As it happens, I'm not that fond of alcohol or junk food either, but I recognise that some of my opinions on the way people choose to spend their time would not make me much fun at parties, so I keep them to myself usually Grin

However some schools of thought say that a glass of wine a day can be good for you. I don't think that's ever been said about one cigarette a day.

Every single smoker smells of smoke, even those that think they dont. Fact. People are being nice if they say you dont or are smokers themshelves. I dont think smokers can smell it themshelves.

TenForward82 · 09/09/2015 16:46

pinkmanbitch I love you too Grin

It's not every thread, btw, you clearly haven't been stalking me all that well. I'm fucking lovely on some threads. Just not the ones that interest you / you read, obviously.

londonrach · 09/09/2015 16:47

Despite the smell its legal so no problem with it. Forgot to add i have more of a problem with the smell of mcdonalds when i walk past and dont get me on subway (sandwich shop) which for some reason really makes me feel ill.

dementedDementor · 09/09/2015 16:48

Actually Ten, I think you'll find cigarettes are good for you. (In ye olden days).

Oh, yes, demented forgot about all that! Grin Before my time, thankfully. Didn't they used to actually encourage pregnant women to smoke? shudder

Verypissedoffwife · 09/09/2015 16:53

I'm a smoker and no, I can't smell myself. I always smoke outside and bath/shower every day as well as wear clean clothes every day. I do smell smoke on others - some people smoke inside or aren't as clean.

I'm not kidding myself that I don't smell of fags though. It's the same with people who smell of chip fat, or BO, or damp Laundry, or dirty hair - you just get used to your own smell. I think all the other smells I've listed are far worse and turn my stomach - but then I would say that wouldn't I?!

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 09/09/2015 16:53

I hope you tapped him on the shoulder to let him know OP. Unless people bang on and on and fucking on about it constantly, they Simply Don't Realise, you know.

Are you still in the cafe? Show him this thread

PunkrockerGirl · 09/09/2015 16:57

Why do people assume that people who defend smokers are smokers themselves?
Believe it or not there's quite a few of us who can't actually be arsed to get all angst-ridden about it. I for one don't mind it at all.
Anti smokers, you don't speak for all non smokers so don't assume that you do.

TenForward82 · 09/09/2015 16:59

I keep telling everyone, it's not anger, it's no nonsense! Why won't you fuckers believe me?! Grin

However, my reading on this is that I give my relevant opinion, some knicker-twisted MNetter takes personal umbrage and tells me I'm a dictator or a sadist or something similar (personal attack), so I respond back, and suddenly I'm the bad guy. Funny how the internet clique works. Sadly despite everyone's desire to get me to piss off, I ain't going anywhere just yet.

Back on track, you're right plenty, he probably doesn't realise. Politely pointing it out would get the OP a mouthful of abuse, though Sad

TenForward82 · 09/09/2015 17:00

punk I don't assume I speak for anyone other than myself Smile

MissDuke · 09/09/2015 17:00

I detest smoking, I really don't care if some people are 'offended' by my opinion. My dd (age 3) went to put something in the bin right outside the school gates earlier and a woman was standing right by it smoking, so I called dd away to the bin at the other side of the gates. I have asthma and my chest is particularly bad today and I am not going to worsen it by walking through this woman's smoke. I made no secret of my annoyance at her choosing to smoke at the school gate (not verbally, but if looks could kill.....).

As for the op - I used to work in an office where I was the only non smoker, and I can honestly say I never once smelled any smoke from any of my colleagues. They washed their hands, sucked mints and sprayed perfume etc and I honestly wouldn't have known they had a ciggie if they didn't say. It definitely isn't essential to smell of smoke! I cycle to work and I suspect they smelled worse from me at times than I ever did from them Blush When they went for their first smoke break, I went and grabbed a quick shower Grin

maybebabybee · 09/09/2015 17:04

Accusations of knickers being in a twist pretty ironic there, ten.

TenForward82 · 09/09/2015 17:04

That's interesting, duke, I'd kind of assumed it was a natural byproduct of smoking and something that couldn't be helped. Like working in a chip shop and smelling of grease ...

MissDuke · 09/09/2015 17:05

Pink can you quote where Ten was an 'angry dick' - I cannot seem to find it Confused

TenForward82 · 09/09/2015 17:06

Why are my knickers in a twist, baby? I believe my first post simply said "I think smoking should be banned shrug " - I don't see any hysterical arm-waving there, do you? And that got me indirectly accused of promoting dictatorships.

Madness. SMH, as the kids say.

MissDuke · 09/09/2015 17:06

Maybe it helped that they were smoking outside Ten? Not sure!!! Or maybe I have an awful sense of smell Grin

Lolimax · 09/09/2015 17:24

I'm home now and wish I'd never started this thread!! It genuinely wasn't a kick at smokers. It was a slightly nauseous observation that SOME smokers smell whilst others don't. I lived in a pub for years well before the smoking ban and I know I stunk of beer and fags permanently. But maybe it's something I've become more sensitive to as I've got older.

LoveChickens · 09/09/2015 17:25

Love it personally. I love smoking.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 09/09/2015 17:30

Whooosh! Grin

(sometimes I think we need a sarcasm smiley)

TenForward82 · 09/09/2015 17:41

Oh, hahaha! Fair enough. I admit it, that went totally over my head Grin

Millipedewithherfeetup · 09/09/2015 17:42

Op just read that you now wish you had never started this thread........... really ? Think you knew exactly what sort of responses you would get.

TenForward82 · 09/09/2015 17:44

duke I wouldn't have thought smoking outside would have made a difference, tbh, all the outside smokers I know still smell of it (even when it's windy)
