I've moved to a more upmarket area. The staff in lidl are too nice, they let people back stuff as it scans and so it takes ages.

I really miss the quickness of my last place where they virtually throw things at you and shout if you try to pack.

They just haven't trained the staff here properly right?

Whenever I go to Aldi with DH I stay right out of the way at the checkout - he's worked his system into the Aldi system and by the look of it thoroughly enjoys himself while throwing everything into the trolley at high speed.
Which is odd really because he is so bloody slow while we're actually shopping he gives me rage..

Ikea bags opened in the trolley. Throw it all in. Voil??!

He's not slow, he's merely preserving his energy for the big packing challenge.

ours throw the stuff cheerily while making amusing small talk. I luv em.

I'm getting fed up of the little stick down toys they keep handing out at Lidl. We must have 50+ scattered around the house. Old couple yesterday gave me another load that they didn't want. What are they even for??

I've never heard a cashier comment when people pack at the till in our local Lidl but you have to be quick otherwise it all falls off the end. I used to try and beat the cashier by having the bags open in the trolley but now I prefer to sort things into tins/fruit & veg/ fridge or freezer items as I put it in the trolley after scanning so I can easily pack it on the packing table.

I ventured into Tesco at the weekend with my elderly DM to get her some shopping. I was quietly fuming at the amount of time some people were taking. The couple in front decided they would split the bill between them by paying on 2 separate cards so paying took them twice as long. Not only that but he stood with his hands in his pockets whilst she slowly packed everything by herself. It just wouldn't happen in Lidl Grin but unfortunately there isn't one near my DMs house.

my local Aldi is superfast. I'm sure they get timed. Stuff gets thrown at you and they start serving the next person before you've moved away/ finished. I always get in a kerfuffle and end up throwing loose coins back into my bag, woe betide putting them back in purse!

I've given up packing in the shop and just chuck it all back into the trolley to pack at the carboot. Less pressure, and it saves my back from all that heavy lifting - into the trolley, onto the checkout, into the trolley, onto the packing counter, into the trolley, into the boot, into the house, into the cupboards... Ugh. Shopping sucks.

Two separate cards Shock They'd shoot you for that in Lidl.

Nothing more annoying than the person in front faffing allowing your Lidl opponent get a head start on the scanning.

The secret to beating the cashier is actually putting it on the belt correctly. So all the meat together, all the soft stuff together etc.

Get the bags ready in the trolley and you are off.

Or you could always ask the cashier a really random question, throws them off for a few seconds and gives you catch up Grin

Our Lidl cashiers are somewhere between the two. They are quick - not as quick as Aldi but no-one is - but don't actually throw stuff at you or the trolley. I have witnessed people packing at the till but the grumbles & tuts from the queue have prevented me from being brave enough to do so myself.

Aldi cashiers are as fast as lightening. Blink & you've missed your shopping - it's either forming some sort of food mountain teetering on the edge of the till threatening to topple or it's on the floor already (if you're slow getting your trolley into position). They are generally polite & friendly though - not chatty as such because there's no time for a conversation. Always pleasant though.

Tesco cashiers (here specifically, I'm not suggesting it's the same everywhere) are either rude & grumpy, excessively slow or commentators ("oo - that's a big bottle of wine, are you going to share it?" "oo - a new chocolate bar. Is it nice? I don't eat rubbish myself." and so on and so on for every blasted item). Give me the Lidl checkout experience any day.

random questions... he he... I shall be using a cheats tactic.

aldi were rather pissed off when Iturned the trolley the wrong way and packed into the seat... dd was in the basket. (hypermobile, they do not have the right sort of trollies) they thought itw ould not go in, but getting it all on the belt in the correct order is the secret.

Our local Lidl is lovely. The staff are so helpful. There is a particular man on the tills who always has a chat to my 2 year old.

I assemble the shopping on the belt in order of heavy stuff first down to the light stuff like eggs and bread and crisps, and then get my bags open in my trolley ready and waiting. The person in front faffing can really fuck the system up, but I usually catch up. I am usually waiting on them by the end. At the weekend DH was with me and he was astounded at my efficiency. :o

Oh and the stickeez. The cashier gave me two today even though I only should have got 1. The level of delight that such a insignificant piece of tat can bring to my DCs is unbelievable.

Another trick is to buy fruit and veg that needs counting (mulitiple loose kiwis) or weighing (loose veg). Put the veg in the middle of your shopping on the conveyor belt and you then get time to catch up with the packing as it slows them down a treat Grin

At my Aldi they have this rule that you cant bring you basket with you, it has to be left at the beginning of the conveyor..So if you have a basket full you have no choice to pack it into a bag, there's nothing to throw the shopping into.

They dont seem to of thought that one through and have now given up rushing people...and you're now allowed to put your trolley that way you want and can stand where you want

The rebels soon whipped then into shape....

There was a funny moment when I was going through the till where the guy behind me was holding his basket. The new cashier stopped scanning my stuff to tell him to put the basket back...he was confused so she told him again...and again. He lobbed the basket on top of the shopping on the conveyer and walked out. The cashier went into apoplexy and started mouthing off to me

I just told her...well what is he supposed to do if you dont like people packing at the till

I don't know what kind of customer service training they have in sainsburys, but you can't pack you shopping for personal questions from the staff "what are you doing later? Where do you work? Is that near here?"
Much prefer the Lidl cashier/bag race. Inserting the card rather than tapping it to buy time to sling last few items in bag!

Once in Aldi I wanted to put the shopping into my shopping trolley, not packing it, just throwing it in. Cashier refused to serve me unless I put it into their trolley first so the manager had to come on the till.

This is then east thread ever! I feel like I've found my people!

I had no idea other people played 'beat the cashier'. I am excellent at it. I would be an Olympian if it was an Olympic sport. I am also currently very adept at getting Stikeez from old people.

And I agree with the pp who mentioned Sainsbury's. I DONT WANT TO TALK! Throw the shopping at me quick and ignored me! Ffs

I used to work at Lidl and you'd get into trouble if you scanned less than 30 items a minute. The till counts and the manager would check at the end of every day!

you are actually supposed to throw it in the trolly then use theshelf by the window to sort it from trolley into shopping bag
