2 inches or not 2 inches, that is the question...

In fairness, the dress never fit in the first place. It was an (extremely expensive) carrot to motivate me to loose weight. Which I did, 29 lbs to be exact. Which is all very woo-hoo until I realise that the dress belt won't tie. Big event in two weeks so running out of time.

AIBU to have hope that 2 inches off a waist in two weeks (or less) is possible? I don't care how temporary, painful or exhausting. (And, before anyone says, yes I maybe a tad shallow Grin)

Am almost afraid to post back here due to my lack of sense, depth and questionable numerical ability Grin

Thanks all for the practical advice Flowers. Am finding the low carb ok so far as I'm planning meals ahead. Body wrap booked and Spanx ordered. Hula hooping daily while I get my TV fix in. The reality of my jelly-abs has hit so will keep up the exercise long-term (always good when there's a lesson learned)

(scissors on standby for some creative fixing if all else fails Smile)

Nobody, but nobody, will starve on a sensible low carb diet, if they eat well and aren't being silly about it.

Yes, but they do if they eat no carbs (as suggested by someone on the thread). Starvation is the point of not eating any carbs, so that fat reserves are used up instead of the carbohydrates that would normally be acquired through food.

FelineLou · 10/09/2015 11:15

Take the original belt off and use a bigger matching or white one?

Fluffyears · 10/09/2015 13:20

My friend swears by the power plate things in tanning studios. She lost an inch last years in two weeks. I lost nothing Sad so it's up to you if you think it might have a toning effect.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 10/09/2015 14:32

Lweji - that's not starvation. On a low carb diet, you eat a lot of fat and protein, both of which have more calories per gram than carbohydrates. You use up fat in your body for energy because you're not getting the quick fix of glucose from the carbs, and because you're not storing any as glycogen that can be rapidly re-converted to glucose.
Even if you are eating carbs, you still use fat and protein as energy reserves.
I can't believe you really think that a low carb diet = starvation - that's just, wow. So wrong.

Lweji

WHo said no carbs?

When people say "cut out the carbs" they mean the main ones. You will get carbs in almost every naturally occurring food, but some are much lower than others. Even a person on a very strict low carb diet will be getting some. Cut out bread, pasta, rice and potatoes, all fruit and all added sugars and you will see weight loss very quickly. You will not however starve. Your appetite increases as your body has less reserves to call on to the point where (assuming no food/eating issues) what you take in will be equal to what you need in terms of energy.

The idea that low carbs is damaging and starving a person was debunked (by the medical profession) a long time ago.

Thanks Olivia, good to know that laxatives may not be the way forward Grin

Cut out all carbs and sugar, also caffeine.

DP has been trying to lose enough to win a bet the last few weeks and is weighing in tomorrow. He asked what he should do with Movicol to help make sure he weighs as little as possible. I advised him to use it once a few days in advance so that it wasn't making him hold onto water anymore on 'the day'. So that was a couple of days ago and I bitterly regret letting him use the Movicol. The anal gas leak has yet to stop and it's too cold to keep the windows open all the time. Sad

magoria · 10/09/2015 21:14

Could you slice the back of the belt and add an extra piece of material?

MazzleDazzle · 10/09/2015 21:58

I once did 2 days of only fruit, then 5 days of only a healthy evening meal.

It worked, but didn't stay off of course. Managed to fit into my dress though even if it was for one day only.

Lweji · 10/09/2015 23:08

Also
No carbs, body wrap.

laureywilliams · 11/09/2015 07:37

Who gives a fuck what unit is used?

This ^

Flutterbutterfly · 11/09/2015 07:53

Callanetics waist whittler excercise ( utube) will take inches off in days!

I used it to fit into a tiny dress last year.

Bogeyface · 11/09/2015 15:08

Cut out all carbs is not possible on a normal diet.

Generally when people say that they mean the obvious ones, as I mentioned above, plus added sugars (so soft drinks, sweets, sugar in hot drinks etc). To go completely carb free is actually incredibly difficult and no normal person would have the knowledge needed to do it.

ExitPursuedByABear · 11/09/2015 15:26

Out of interest - where do tomatoes sit in low carbing?

I am a bit of a fruit addict but could just about cope with salad but I could not give up tomatoes.

Tomatoes are OK in reasonable moderation. Ie, OK to have in salad or eg tins of tomatoes in bolognese sauce, but you aren't really supposed to have both on the same day. I have never restricted tomatoes and always lose weight on low-carb, though until I start mainlining chocolate.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 11/09/2015 20:07

How are you getting on, OP? I am drinking rose wine after eating pasta for lunch and pizza for dinner, and I last Shredded on Wednesday. I will Shred tomorrow, back on the wagon!

Bogeyface · 12/09/2015 01:17

Tomatoes arent great but as long as you dont go mad on them you should be ok.

The trick is to cut down drastically on the amount of carbs/sugar you take in. So if your diet is toast or cereal for breakfast with OJ, a sandwich with crisps and fruit for lunch and then meat veg and spuds, or rice or pasta for dinner then you cut out the main carbs.

No OJ, sugared drinks or alcohol. Have black coffee "zero" soft drinks or water. Crustless quiche or scrambled eggs with bacon for brekkie, tuna/salmon/chicken salad for lunch, meat with loads of veg for dinner but no spuds/pasta/rice etc. Its hard at first because we are conditioned to "fill up" on carbs, but actually once you get your head around it, its fine. My mum would ask us what we were having for dinner and then say "But what are you having with it?!" she simply didnt get that you can have dinner without a pile of potatoes or whatever with it!

corsetwattery · 12/09/2015 10:05

Belt is now closing when holding my breath in. Such a major milestone, I almost had some cake to celebrate Grin

I may be a low carb convert. Five days in, I look and feel less bloated. I can sometimes see my toes. Positively miraculous what planning food, exercising and drinking lots of water can do ...

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 12/09/2015 10:21

Good for you, corset! and well done for NOT having the cake! Wink
