2 inches or not 2 inches, that is the question...

In fairness, the dress never fit in the first place. It was an (extremely expensive) carrot to motivate me to loose weight. Which I did, 29 lbs to be exact. Which is all very woo-hoo until I realise that the dress belt won't tie. Big event in two weeks so running out of time.

AIBU to have hope that 2 inches off a waist in two weeks (or less) is possible? I don't care how temporary, painful or exhausting. (And, before anyone says, yes I maybe a tad shallow Grin)

OP posts:
MaidOfStars · 09/09/2015 11:14

Oh FFS.

contractor6 · 09/09/2015 11:16

Wrap clingfilm around tummy and sleep in it, it sweats out the water retention. Short term fix only x

HolgerDanske · 09/09/2015 11:23

Sigh.

No of course it's not possible to cut out all sugars but surely everyone understands that it's shorthand for what we all think of as sugars. I'm not going to get into complex scientific explanations for a two-week project to get into a dress. OP has already said she's done reading on the subject and she can figure it out for herself I'm sure. But I stress it, in shorthand, because there's absolutely no point in cutting out sugars and substituting with honey or tonnes of fruit, or whatever.

Good luck OP hope you get there in time and have a fabulous night in your fabulous dress!

ceyes03 · 09/09/2015 11:24

Jesus wept. Starving yourself for a dress? Utterly ludicrous.

If it's that important, put an extra hole in the belt.

MaidOfStars · 09/09/2015 11:27

I don't actually see where anyone has advocated starvation. Sensible changes to a diet that will remove bloating (at least, in most peoples' experience) is not suggesting starvation.

You've honestly never refused a massive bowl of pasta the day before a Little Black Dress event?

ShinesLikeGold · 09/09/2015 11:30

Some people are just so righteous!

HolgerDanske · 09/09/2015 11:30

No, no one has advocated the OP starve herself.

And I don't think there's anything wrong with wanting to feel and look good in a great dress.

googoodolly · 09/09/2015 11:35

Spanx. Lots of water.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 09/09/2015 11:35

30 Day Shred. Available on YouTube. Do Level 1 for a week and then switch to Level 2. Level 2 involves lots of twisting and really nips your waist in. If you're already pretty fit start with Level 2 but if you aren't then build up some strength first on Level 1 or you'll hurt your back.

I'm in nearly the same position (dress actually does up, although I shall be using the sash to fill the cleavage in a bit because my breastfeeding boobs are a bit exuberant without it). Wedding (not mine!) is a week on Friday, and my dress does up, but there's no denying I could use a bit of slimming around the lower tummy. My plan is:

Shred 5 times a week.
Control pants.
Low-carb for the week running up to the wedding (haven't enough willpower to stick to it at weekends!).

Good luck! Let us know if you make it.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 09/09/2015 11:37

I'm also going to recommend the low carb boot camp on here - it cut my muffintop down in 2 weeks amazingly! Definitely a 2" loss, if not more.
Kind of depends on how much excess you have though, I mean total, not for this dress - the more you have to lose, the more you lose; once you get near your ideal weight it takes longer.

weechops · 09/09/2015 11:41

C9 from forever living. I was v v v skeptical but I needed a kick up the arse and it worked! 9 days later I'm 5lb lighter, 2 inches off tummy,3 inches off hips and an inch off thighs and biceps! It's a cleanse too so you feel better Smile I'm motivated enough to keep up with the healthy eating and exercising now. And yes to whoever suggested 30 day shred, it's really good!

partialderivative · 09/09/2015 18:13

What a shame we still do not feel comfortable using metric in the UK.

2 inches = 5cm

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 10/09/2015 00:52

Really? Hmm
Who gives a fuck what unit is used?

partialderivative · 10/09/2015 05:56

"Who gives a fuck what unit is used?"

Said the NASA officials to the Mars Probe

articles.latimes.com/1999/oct/01/news/mn-17288

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 10/09/2015 06:41

Really? Again? You're going to equate an MN thread about losing a dress size with a NASA mars probe? You have serious problems.

ceyes03 · 10/09/2015 06:51

*I don't actually see where anyone has advocated starvation. Sensible changes to a diet that will remove bloating (at least, in most peoples' experience) is not suggesting starvation.

No, I have not, because I'm not that bloody shallow.

Seriously?

Avoiding all carbs for two weeks and existing on chicken and vegetables is not a "sensible change to a diet", it's fucking ludicrous. It's especially ludicrous when all the OP has to do is stick an extra hole in a belt, FFS.

Lweji · 10/09/2015 06:56

We know it's in inches, so the example is irrelevant.

Someone did say to cut all carbs.

Anyway, don't forget to exercise. Lay face down, lift yourself by the elbows, keep your body straight as a plank and stay in that position for as long as you can. If it's too hard, put your knees on the floor too.

Lweji · 10/09/2015 06:57

And I'd just probably fix the belt.

partialderivative · 10/09/2015 06:59

Calm down, Thumb. Don't take it so seriously.

EponasWildDaughter · 10/09/2015 07:54

Spanx Spanx Spanx.

And cut out potatoes and pasta and bread as much as poss. from now till then.

No need to go mad with cutting out all sugars (like fruit and sugar in your tea) IMO.

EponasWildDaughter · 10/09/2015 07:55

I speak as an experienced low carb'er btw :)

HolgerDanske · 10/09/2015 09:37

Yes, that's true - cutting out wheat products is what sorts out the bloating. Cutting out other sugars is just because cold turkey tends to make the whole thing a lot easier and avoids most of the carb cravings.

I speak as an experienced low carber and a huge sugar/carbs fiend Wink

Hopefully OP is halway through the last couple of inches by now Smile

HolgerDanske · 10/09/2015 09:40

Nobody, but nobody, will starve on a sensible low carb diet, if they eat well and aren't being silly about it.

There are plenty of carbohydrates in vegetables.

Bogeyface · 10/09/2015 09:51

Avoiding all carbs for two weeks and existing on chicken and vegetables is not a "sensible change to a diet"

Works for me.

I have a very low carb diet (I stay under 20g per day) and I am far healthier than I ever was on high carb low fat. Its sugars that you store as fat, not fat in foods. Carbs make you sluggish, bugger up your metabolism with highs and crashes, and with some people cause digestive problems.

Its easy. No added sugar to anything, no sweets, fruit, honey, potatoes, pasta, rice, bread or alcohol. High protein such as meat and lots and lots of salad and vegetable and high fat ingredients. If there is a choice between full fat yoghurt or non fat, go for the full fat as in the non fat version they have just replaced the fat with sugar, far worse for you.

I had tons to lose and lost it by low carbing, and keep it off that way too. ITs not a diet, its a whole new way of eating that has finally been accepted by the medical profession as an alternative to high carb low fat, which never bloody worked.

OP, if you want some easy recipes, I have loads :)

TheFullMinty · 10/09/2015 09:58

A decent corset / waspie would do the job in less than a minute Smile

Diva are a fairly reliable brand (from last time I bought a corset which admittedly was a few years ago).

Have an amazing night in your awesome dress.
