AIBU?

AIBU to be annoyed with MiL?

Dh thinks so I don't.

Disclaimer; my MiL is normally amazing and lovely and we get on great that's why I am surprised. She is a very considerate person and normally is very careful not to overstep boundaries.

Yesterday MiL was looking after my 11 month old DS so I could catch up on sleep (ds has 4 teeth coming through so life is very miserable atm). When I went to collect him she said how well he slept and that all was calm. My FiL thinks ds is just playing me Hmm and trying to get my attention so is not sleeping.

I found out today that the reason that ds slept so well is because my MiL gave ds 3 homeopathic tablets in his milk- without calling or checking with me. I am super annoyed as I don't trust such medicine and would rather not give anything like that without speaking to a dr.

I would never dream of giving my nephew or my youngest SiL (8) any tablet without speaking to their parents. My dh thinks I am unreasonable and precious. Am I?

If you google calcium phosphoricum b6 you can find a million pages describing it in german and google translate will translate for you. It looks like it's a cure all for everything under the sun. And probably not a dosage that is harmful. But your mil (or anyone else) should not be giving your child pills at any age without checking with you first. My idiot ex decided that I was being ridiculous allergy checking foods in small amounts with our dc's as there are many food allergies in the family. So he decided to give dd a breakfast of scrambled eggs when she was about 10 months old and before I had had a chance to check her sensitivity to eggs (since 1 year was the cutoff at that time). She also happened to be taking antibiotics at the time. She ended up covered in hives and very uncomfortable for several days. We never knew which it was or if it was the combo of the two (or something else that idiot ex had decided to feed her without telling me).

I can make out potatoe starch and lactose on the ingredients. doesn't look like anything sinister. unless your lactose intolerant.

If you live in germany you'd be better off finding out what other germans think of her behaviour. Could just be one of those 'cultural differences' things. Of course feel free to moan about it to your fellow brits on here too though :) (not sarky, had my kids abroad, its this kind of thing that can drive you mad)

It therapeutic use for teeth is for weak teeth, so it wasn't really appropriate. It has a very, very long list of therapeutic uses. But, it is very unlikely to cause any harm as it the mineral salt most commonly found in the human body (according to the article in French). However it is useful for cradle cap (if that's what those white crusty bits on the baby's head are called).

When I lived in Germany I found them very onto their homeopathic remedies. Most of my German friends used them for everything. Since its dh mum in would get him to ask mil not to give any more homoeopathic stuff as it makes u a little anxious

It does say on there that for children one should check with a doctor or natural practitioner first. Homeopathy is very popular in Germany, for children and adults, but I also would have been unimpressed by that behaviour.

YANBU! I'd be furious. I'm very against homeopathic shit anyway, completely unregulated and can contain anything and everything. Sure most medicine came from 'natural' sources originally too. Homeopathic stuff is very dodgy. I'd prefer if she gave actual calpol. She was way out of line.
