To worry about my son starting boarding school today?

My eldest son has gone off to boarding school today for the first time.
AIBU to be a bit worried about him?

I went to the school myself as did my husband and our entire family... I know my son will love it and get the best magical education around but I'll miss himSad.

JK Rowling even wished him good luck!

Not funny, just fun :)
I've seen others do similar ones in the past and always enjoyed them. September 1st only comes around once a year Wink

No, you're right MrsP, it is James going in 2015, he was born in 2004 and starts secondary now.

Albus is shown starting in 2017 when James has been there a couple of years already.

DonkeyOaty · 01/09/2015 22:15

What is the significance of Sept 1st please? And no, don't get why the HP books are sooooo great. I mean, yes, a whole generation of kiddoes reading, yep but the actual writing - YAWN.

PennyHasNoSurname · 01/09/2015 22:19

I love how term starts every year on September 1st, and lessons start the very next day - doesnt seem to matter what actual day of the week it is.

SirChenjin · 01/09/2015 22:23

Could you please ask him to learn a worthwhile spell while he's there please? One that reduces the size of my backside would be useful, for example.

SirChenjin · 01/09/2015 22:24

And one that improves my grammar might also come in handy.

JenniferYellowHat1980 · 01/09/2015 22:29

Harsh responses.

OhSoggyBiscuit · 01/09/2015 22:36

He'll be okay.

I hear Hogwarts has massively improved over the last few years- I have a friend who went to Hogwarts in the 90s and he told me it was pretty bad. Sure, the magic teaching is top notch, but he can barely read or write. And he told me how dangerous it was too. Apparently there was a great war in his last year of school in which thousands of children died. AIBU to wonder why this school wasn't closed down years ago?

Lurkedforever1 · 01/09/2015 22:41

I'm with worra and donkey. Really don't get the attraction. Dd can't stand them either despite repeated attempts cos her friends like them.

gymboywalton · 01/09/2015 22:49

for fucks sake
how do some of you cope in the real world?
if you are in the pub and someone tells a joke that you don't find funny do you smile and move on politely and sit there and say 'that was a rubbish joke. i didn't find that joke in the least bit funny'?

NOONE IS FORCING YOU TO READ THE THREADS AND POST!!!

if it's not to your taste just move on!!!

it's such a fucking mean girl thing to do! ' i know lets post horrible things about rubbish the thread is and make the op feel small!'

NewLife4Me · 01/09/2015 22:52

Having started a boarding school thread myself I am happy that you have Ginny

I hope your ds settles soon, just warn him away from the Malfoy family.
I have enjoyed reading about your family and watching the films, my children were great fans when younger.

I'm told all the past problems are behind it now so he should be fine.

DotaDay · 01/09/2015 23:02

I don't think some posters realise that you dont have to post on a thread just because you have read the OP. Hmm Confused

I'm not a big fan of HP but all four of my DC enjoyed the books and the films. My kids were the ideal age to enjoy it. although they enjoyed LOTR a lot more

Bambambini · 01/09/2015 23:17

It is mean to belittle the Op in what is a harmless thread - just move on if it's not to your taste.

xavierfondue · 01/09/2015 23:31

It's alright.

The moaners and haters are just cross because they've been sorted into Slytherin.

SirChenjin · 02/09/2015 08:07
Grin

And rightly so - Slytherin is the only place for them.

Hellocampers · 02/09/2015 08:17

Op you are right! My maths ability is truly crap. I could be a muggle.

All these haters are just jealous squibs. they can't understand jokes and are frankly a tad boring.

Trills · 02/09/2015 08:32

Hogwarts? How elitist. What's wrong with a magical comprehensive?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 02/09/2015 08:38

Why bother having children if you are going to pack them off to boarding school at the earliest possible opportunity Angry People like you make me sick! Of course it's not going to be OK - if you do this he will be emotionally damaged for the rest of his life! Angry In addition, why on earth Hogwarts?! Its pastoral care has historically been patchy at best.

MrsGinnyPotter · 02/09/2015 08:57

I heard this morning that he was sorted into Gryffindor Wink

i suspect that the mean girl comments were made by pansy parkinson and her crew

Snowfilledsky · 02/09/2015 09:09

I have never read a Harry Potter book or seen a film.

InimitableJeeves · 02/09/2015 10:09

Are any of his cousins there?

morningtoncrescent62 · 02/09/2015 11:17

I hope he managed to get there OK. I was at Kings Cross a few days ago and the queues on platform nine and three quarters had to be seen to be believed. I'd forgotten that it was the likely travel back to school day and I wondered what on earth was going on.

BoneyBackJefferson · 02/09/2015 11:43

I'm sure that as with the rest of the family he will get away with just about everything and the rules will be changed for his benefit.
