To push a shopping trolley?

Hi all,
So I'm not really being 'unreasonable' as such, since it isn't hurting anyone, but would I be a bit daft to have one of those shopping trolley things to myself? I'll attach an image since you're all probably thinking of a supermarket trolley lol.

My grandmother has one of these and it looks like a fab alternative to carrying heavy shopping bags around on a big trip/when I'm having a good mooch!

I proposed the idea to my Nan and she made a face, and told me not to be such a 'silly sod'.

Can't see why a wider age group doesn't have them Grin saves a lot of hassle, although perhaps the odd looks make it less profitable.

To push a shopping trolley?

It's a great idea!! You can buy really nice, non-grannish ones!

Huntthepigsear · 30/08/2015 20:43

There are some quite trendy ones about now, but YWBU to push one.
They definitely need to be pulled. Wink

Voovinnie · 30/08/2015 20:44

Hunt, damn it! The pushing ones are easiest to use Grin

I bought one for DH when he came home from the supermarket with bags full of shopping cutting into his fingers.
Now several families nearby have them too, very practical.
Not the one you linked though, that is a pensioner trolley, his has 2 wheels and is plain black

DirtyMugPolice · 30/08/2015 20:44

Yanbu! Practical...Errrmm and stylish? pushing it a bit

CruCru · 30/08/2015 20:46

I think everyone in Barcelona has them.

canyou · 30/08/2015 20:46

I am37 and have a pretty flowery one, my mum has a check one Aldi os a two min walk from my mum so she takes hers there all the time. I use mine at the market

YouMakeMyDreams · 30/08/2015 20:47

Where I live it's a small town with no buses to speak of they all take you 25 miles to the nearest City Centre. Loads of people of all ages have them to get their shopping home. I say go for it.

ToadsJustFellFromTheSky · 30/08/2015 20:48

My grandma had one of those when I was little and I always loved pulling it around for her when we went shopping.

So on that basis alone YANBU.

ToadsJustFellFromTheSky · 30/08/2015 20:50

Thinking about it though, I don't think I've seen those shopping trolley's in a while. I wasn't even sure they still made them but I guess they do.

I wouldn't mind one but as a 24 year old who still passes off as a teenager I doubt I could pull one off.

PigeonPie · 30/08/2015 20:50

YANBU! I have a Sholley as they have front wheels which move and therefore go round corners!

It keeps me upright now that my DSs are too big for the pushchair which I used as a walking frame (I tried to force them into it for years, but at 8 they objected Grin not really!).

It's my lifesaver for the school run - everything gets piled into it and on top of it (on busy days) and in the days when we had a greengrocer in town, I could get all the weekly fruit and veg in there.

toastedbeagle · 30/08/2015 20:57

It's a good idea. Have taken my empty buggy to the shops and used it to put the shopping in whilst DD was at nursery. Gets me very funny looks but once you're used to be able to get loads of shopping done and wheel it home.... hard to stop.

Voovinnie · 30/08/2015 20:58

Thank you, think I might be stubborn and go for the pensioners one Grin I know they're far from stylish but they're very practical ;)

Like someone mentioned, it's hard to pull them off if you're young.
Sometimes I barely pass for 17 so I may look a little strange, perhaps Olay will hire me on the dot once they see me and wonder how I keep such a young glow Wink

My brother used to use an old tartan one about 26 years ago to deliver the local paper.

WorraLiberty · 30/08/2015 21:48

I've got one similar to this

It holds loads and isn't quite as 'tartan' Grin

flanjabelle · 30/08/2015 21:51

The pull along ones have become much more fashionable. I wish the push ones had too as pushing is easier than pulling! Yanbu op but I would go for a reasonably stylish pull along one.

PermetsTu · 30/08/2015 21:58

I've used them since my early twenties. I have a patchwork one and a polka dot one.

Definitely pull, don't push.

ILiveOnABuildsite · 30/08/2015 21:58

My mum has one, she is 58 now but she has been using it for 10-15 years, since she sold her car and not bother buying a new one as she lives in a large city and prefers using the bus. I'ved used it too, if I'm at my mum's and popping to the shop.

Patapouf · 30/08/2015 21:58

Everyone in Paris uses one for food shopping. They make me wince a bit but I can appreciate how practical they are.
DM (in the UK) uses one for her Christmas shopping!

MinesAPintOfTea · 30/08/2015 22:06

I have a pulling one and am not yet 30! The other advantage of the pull ones is that they fold pretty much entirely flat for storage. It gets the heavy bags up the hill...

SquinkiesRule · 30/08/2015 22:08

I saw them for sale in Home bargains, they have a nicer looking one that is red with white spots all over. If I was in walking distance for shopping I'd use one. I like the Ikea ones www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/90282335/#/00283693

Devora · 30/08/2015 22:11

I love my shopping trolley. I don't care if they look middle-aged - I AM middle-aged - though I reckon that if you're young they will just make people think you're leading the trend.

hippoinamudhole · 30/08/2015 22:16

Shopping trolley direct have lots with different designs

HoopsAlot · 30/08/2015 22:16

You could prob blind it up Wink iv got a nice lidl one but it's a pull one, I'm 24 and have had one for a few years.
Heck carrying a weeks shopping on my arms/hands.

lostoldlogin2 · 31/08/2015 02:51

I live in Barcelona, and shopping trolleys carry no "pensioner" stigma here. HOWEVER
It is correct that you must go for the pull kind in a cool design as opposed to the tartan push kind. Even the Catalan nans wouldn't be seen dead with one of those.
