To push a shopping trolley?

Voovinnie · 30/08/2015 20:40

Hi all,
So I'm not really being 'unreasonable' as such, since it isn't hurting anyone, but would I be a bit daft to have one of those shopping trolley things to myself? I'll attach an image since you're all probably thinking of a supermarket trolley lol.

My grandmother has one of these and it looks like a fab alternative to carrying heavy shopping bags around on a big trip/when I'm having a good mooch!

I proposed the idea to my Nan and she made a face, and told me not to be such a 'silly sod'.

Can't see why a wider age group doesn't have them Grin saves a lot of hassle, although perhaps the odd looks make it less profitable.

To push a shopping trolley?

I have one do not drive and work away from home during the week so I tend to do a mass shop every few months or so it's funky bright and light folds flat for storage. Came from ikea a few years ago and has been named Bertha

mollie123 · 31/08/2015 06:55

shopping trolleys direct have an amazing range of shopping trolley, lightweight ones, push or pull ones and even some that climb steps Shock
as an older person I had always thought the 'push and lean on' ones used in supermarkets by other shoppers a bit of a nuisance (but no more than the supermarket trolleys) especially if there was a holdup at the checkouts while someone 'packed' their shopping into one - but I now think they are so practical and shall venture into shopping trolley ownership in the near future Smile

CruCru · 31/08/2015 07:09

Here are some posh ones.

CruCru · 31/08/2015 07:15

I want the one with the faces and the swivel wheels.

mollie123 · 31/08/2015 08:28

gosh crucru those are 'posh' (what on earth do they cost?)- love the fact that they extol the virtues of the 'aerodynamic shape' as if that helps when you are toting a load of shopping Grin
sad to say the day someone brings out a pink 'hello kitty' bling covered push trolley I will know all our efforts at feminism and equality have flown out of the window - even more interesting will be seeing a mantrolley for 'the man who shops' Shock

Buttercup27 · 31/08/2015 08:31

We took 1 to a Music festival a few weeks ago and it was brilliant.

goldopals · 31/08/2015 08:35

Everyone uses them at the Gepps Cross markets in Adelaide. It is an open air fruit/veg/Trash and treasure market. It is too hard to carry bags around

BoskyCat · 31/08/2015 08:37

Wow crucru the marketing copy on that site is brilliant!

"This is probably the most advanced shopping trolley available on the market... you'll only need to glance at it once to fall in love with its attractive and aerodynamic shape.... Can you imagine feeling the future in the palm of your hand?" :o :o :o

Whichever copywriter came up with that lot was having a good day! It's like they forgot they weren't still working for porsche.

BoskyCat · 31/08/2015 08:39

Mollie, I'm a feminist and I would like a pink one (if I had one). I like pink and it would stand out. (I'm also not averse to Hello Kitty - though that might be taking it a bit far.)

Tbh I wouldn't care what colours and styles people preferred if both sexes were doing an equal share of hauling shopping home.

Birdsgottafly · 31/08/2015 08:40

I used to use one in my 20's, before internet shopping, but I couldn't bring myself to now.

The flowery ones linked to, would be ideal for loading up with alcohol, to take to festivals etc, though.

diddl · 31/08/2015 08:41

I bike to the shops & have panniers on my bike.

Occasionally due to snow I walk & take rucksack & thought that to save my back a trolley would be a good idea.

(Snow cleared enough to get a trolley through.)

Haven't yet seen anything for less than 100Euro!!

Birdsgottafly · 31/08/2015 08:43

""sad to say the day someone brings out a pink 'hello kitty' bling covered push trolley I will know all our efforts at feminism and equality have flown out of the window - ""

I like "Girly" type stuff and I choose not to live with anyone (of either Gender), perhaps you need to rethink your default stance that we all share our homes with people and especially people of the opposite Gender (who don't like HK).

mollie123 · 31/08/2015 08:50

do lighten up some of you this is a light-hearted thread Shock
and there was a thread on just this subject a year ago
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/2191339-To-buy-an-old-lady-shopping-trolley

diddl · 31/08/2015 09:05

I'd like a wicker one, but probably not th best idea if for use in bad weather!

CruCru · 31/08/2015 14:42

The one I want is £89 I think. The website reminds me a bit of the bugaboo website.

GlowWine · 31/08/2015 14:52

On a visit to a major European theme park this summer (not Disney), everyone had them full of picnics and stuff. Backpacks and large bags are so passé! In all sorts of trendy colours and designs. People were also trailing kids and stuff in handy handcarts...

Andrewofgg · 31/08/2015 14:53

If you use it to block a seat on the bus you can be the star of another thread and it won't be light-hearted.

lemoncordial · 31/08/2015 15:13

I've had one for years. I don't have a car so I find it really useful for getting a shopping home. I started using it in my 20s! I use the smaller style pull ones, less hassle on public transport.

bigmouthstrikesagain · 31/08/2015 15:25

I have a colourful pull along trolley that I use all the time and I take it out when going to the park etc with the kids. It replaces the pushchair now my children are older as a handy receptacle for shopping/ snacks/ coats etc etc

Feminism has nothing to do with it, I don't drive so a trolley provides the practical solution to my need to carry shit about.

Buxtonstill · 31/08/2015 16:01

www.rolser.com/web/index.php/en/

go to rolser.com instead of buying Rolser trolleys through Amazon. I ordered my Rolser through their website, paid in Euros. It was way cheaper than any site in the UK and arrived through the post in 5 days from Spain.
They do some really trendy designs. In Spain it is not uncommon for young men in their 20s to use them to lug shopping home from the market.

ScOffasDyke · 31/08/2015 17:24

Last time I was in Spain (basque country), the locals had those pull type trolleys but they pushed them. Looked strange to me, but I tried it with ours and it works OK.
