They are very smelly and I don't know why I do so much, I also burp excessively but this is easy to control and also don't smell.

I don't drink gassy drinks and have a normal diet. Have see gp who wasn't interested - can anyone help?

Low carbing really reduces farting, much to my surprise. I wondered where they had all gone!Grin

Dragonsdaughter · 30/08/2015 10:49

Spat my tea out ;) - process of elimination !!!

Follyfoot · 30/08/2015 10:55

It could be gluten. A friend was telling me recently that it was exactly this symptom which made her go back to the GP and insist on some further tests. It turned out she has coeliac disease. I dont think anyone can say for definite what it is, and just to say don't go back to the GP may be the wrong course of action.

Birdsgottafly · 30/08/2015 13:02

How old are you OP, most Women go through a Fart stage when they are entering the Peri Menopause.

If not then you need to keep an honest good diary and do as suggested, cutting out ingredients to see if it makes a difference.

BlanketsAndBiscuits · 30/08/2015 13:07

It could be gluten.

I'm a newly diagnosed coeliac and I accidently ingested some gluten last week and it was awful. The smell was vile even the dog looked at me in disgust BlushGrin

If it's really unbearable, see a GP or do a trial of elimination to see if you can find out the cause.

Palomb · 30/08/2015 13:12

I too don't really fart when I'm low carbing but if I have a carb binge I start again pretty immediately and it's like mustard gas!

Wheat is definitely the culprit with me

If I do proper low carbing, I stop farting completely.

knitknack · 30/08/2015 15:32

Other than weightloss, the BEST thing about low-carbing/primal is the total absence of wind! (and boy does it return if I eat sugar!!)

blankblink · 30/08/2015 15:35

Another vote for low carb = no fart.

Aramynta · 30/08/2015 15:54

Charcoal can help with excessive wind.

leftyloosy · 30/08/2015 18:04

I need to lose weight and stop farting. But low carbon sounds so depressing. Isn't it removing all nice food from your life?

dementedma · 30/08/2015 18:19

Nooooo lefty. You get to eat meat, fish, veg all with loads of butter on. Full fat yoghurt, fruit ( unless bootcamping). It's a good way of eating as you don't go hungry.

leftyloosy · 30/08/2015 18:23

Might need to take a look. Is there an easy link to read. But man I do love bread...

dementedma · 30/08/2015 18:27

There is a mner called Biwi who is the goddess of low carb and who runs the low carb bootcamping threads. I will see if I can find a link.

BetaTest · 30/08/2015 18:27

Do you fell unwell?

Basically the issue is that you are not digesting food properly and that needs proper investigation.

Lactose intolerance and coeliac spring to mind but IBS, and other less severe digestive disorders may account for it as well.

BetaTest · 30/08/2015 18:28

fell = feel

NoStannisNo · 30/08/2015 18:28

Yep, going easy on the carbs stopped my farting almost entirely. It is really weird!

BrendaandEddie · 30/08/2015 18:36

god onions are TERRIBLE for me

Scoobydoo8 · 30/08/2015 18:47

I had awful burping and a bit of the other.

It was stress related - are you happy with your life/work or are you putting on a brave face and battling on with stuff which makes you anxious.

Meditating, doing relaxing stuff you enjoy, changing the things which are stressing you if that's possible- are what worked.

Puffinsharon · 30/08/2015 19:00

I can guarantee a powerful trump of epic proportions if I eat nuts, it's as if the guff is my dying colon's last gasp before going into anaphylactic shock. Fortunately nuts are well labelled nowadays so I can avoid them more easily.

Good luck finding your wind source.

Rodeoagain · 30/08/2015 19:09

Another coeliac here. I get awful, hugely offensive farts with the coeliac thing.

I would go back to the GP for more tests. The burping sounds like it could be H.Pylori.

So pleased to have found this thread. Gastro problems are the utter bane of my life since aged 15. Crippling IBS spasms (which are intensified immensely if I then also wear anything tight-fitting, have sex or even just go for a wee!), horrendous bloating, trapped wind, or very smelly wind if it's not trapped! Lethargy and just a constant general feeling of 'eurgh'

Doctors not interested though, have just told me to eat healthy and exercise. Stupid thing is though, eating 'healthy' causes spasms. I love raw vegetables such as carrots, celery, fresh peas in their pods etc - but god I'm in pain if I do!

It really has affected a lot of aspects of my life. I'm often too ill for sex, or don't have the energy for anything too strenuous - which most people wouldn't consider strenuous - and very poor sleep.

Never heard of FODMAPs - will have to look into that in more depth...

2rebecca · 04/09/2015 20:58

If I fart a lot it's usually because I'm constipated, or been drinking too much beer. Running and more fluids improve things. I can control when I fart though and usually go to the toilet so am surprised it's ruining your life unless you have anal sphincter control problems.
Sometimes the digestion problems can be related to so many people being on tablets to reduce the acid in their stomach and you need acid to help digest food.
Sometimes it's just a normal varient, some people fart a lot some not much, the ones who fart a lot tend to moan but there's often no more wrong with them than the people who don't fart much, just a normal varient, much like some people sweat more than others and the sweaty people consult their GPs and the less sweaty than average don't.

redlocks28 · 04/09/2015 21:10

Does anyone else find their stomach/intestines make lots of loud gurgling noises and sound a bit like 'inside farts'?! Or is that just me. It's horrible and very embarrassing!
