Oh how they grow... Sniff sniff, today was the day when DS has rejected CBeebies in favour of those cool and funky 'grown up' programs on CBBC.

I thought I'd get misty eyed when he starts Yr1 next week, but oh no, he can't even wait 7 days to grow up.

Waaahhhh! I love Cbeebies and it's soothing trippiness and gentle surreal ness.

I hate CBBC and it's high energy double meaning slap stick reality. Waaaahhhh.

Sorry I may be overly nostalgic [needs to apply starch to upper lip emoticon]

You've just made me go and watch Katie Morag on iPlayer - I remember the books from when I was little. It's lovely Smile

Hamiltoes · 27/08/2015 00:38

Mines is all about Gumball(?), Teen Titans, Regular Show and the dreaded Adventure Time now. She's almost 5. And the birthday list gets bigger daily.

Have any of you watched Adventure Time? It haunts me. I'll be cleaning up and I'll have to stop what I'm doing because it's like I can't take my eyes away from it. Its what I imagine being on drugs feels like, the strangest program I've ever seen.

TheRealAmyLee · 27/08/2015 00:54

I have older ones as well. I get regular show/adventure time/gumball which remind me of ren and stimpy! My smallest loves teen titans and random lego cartoons he finds on netflix. They also all love the how to train your dragon series.

TheRealAmyLee · 27/08/2015 00:55

I miss ben and holly Sad

multivac · 27/08/2015 01:10

Phineas and Ferb! Adventure Time! Gravity Falls!

Oh, brave new world!

shrunkenhead · 29/08/2015 07:56

I miss Ben and Holly, always looked forward to a new series and Katie Morag was proper winter teatime telly... Not quite sure of exact age dd madethe transition to CBBC (tbh dont think she realised CITV and CBBC existed for a long time!) think she was about 5 1/2.
Generally I quite like it apart from Next Step and those kids from Download make me want to stick pins in my eyes! As long as we can stay away from the advert channels I'm happy.

PinguForPresident · 29/08/2015 09:05

My nearly 7y/o still loves Beebies. She's tried the odd CBBC prog but still doesn't really get it. As for those commercial channels with adverts? Shudder.

AvaCrowder · 29/08/2015 09:19

Op you will love cbbc when your dc finds Cartoon Network. And don't buy the advertised slushy cup. It does not work.

Jo4040 · 29/08/2015 09:41

Last year my DS Christmas list was aired on the telly via adverts everyday. He had no imagination about what he 'really liked/wanted. Just had to have what ever he saw in the telly. Luckily tho his BD is Xmas eve, so I could use that for abit of imagination time.

Ooooo hes now into Spongebob as well...

Annarose2014 · 29/08/2015 09:54

I'm lucky as as well as CBeebies we have RTE Jr which doesn't have ads either. And has lovely gentle stuff like Puffin Rock which is about a wee Puffin and its ickle baby brother (or sister? God knows, its just called "baba") Puffin which is a ball of white fur. Its so soothing.

We watch a lot of Postman Pat too. Ever notice how he completely fucks up every single delivery and has to rope in the entire village to save his imcompetent arse? And yet they all seem to still respect him!!!

I DETEST Paw Patrol. Just have a visceral reaction to it, uuuuughh! Its so STUPID!

RatOnnaStick · 29/08/2015 10:04

DS1 is nearly five and hasn't really cottoned on to CBBC yet apart from a couple of space programs around the time of the eclipse and the odd deadly 60. He starts school next week, its only a matter of time really isn't it

Mind you, we are cheap and have no pay tv channels so its CBBC, CITV or Tinypop I think. No Nick/Disney crap here...

leccybill · 29/08/2015 10:13

DD is going into Y1 and really only likes the 'real life' shows on CBeebies, she loves Topsy and Tim, Get Well Soon, Katie Morag and Justin's House.
It's Tiny Pop all the way these days, My Little Pony and Care bears especially. She spent three hours playing MLP with friends yesterday, all of them in American accents throughout.

I miss Small Potatoes and Baby Jake

Kryten2X4B523P · 29/08/2015 10:13

DD (5) has a new love for cbeebies now that Down on the Farm is on, she panicked yesterday when out that she wouldn't be back in time to watch it (cue a conversation about iplayer and "when I were a lass..."). And she's started watching Something Special again and likes to teach DS (18 months) to sign.

The only thing she'll watch on CBBC is Scooby Doo. I do watch the odd horrible histories on the iplayer though, mainly because I had the books as a child. I think she'd quite like Arthur if she watched it though, but she won't.

sherazade · 29/08/2015 10:25

yanbu. I am secretly pleased when my nephew (1) comes over and watches it. Blush

Rowgtfc72 · 29/08/2015 10:34

DD is eight and a bit and were a year into CBBC. Thankfully not Disney or the other adverty channels.
She watches a lot of The Next Step and Hank Zipzer but loves the informative programmes too.
I hate Hacker T Dog as I find myself singing out loud at work about meat paste and milky brews and people now think I'm a little odd Grin

Caboodle · 30/08/2015 08:42

YANBU because CBBC is crap. Adventure Time on Cartoon Network is clever and beautifully surreal; Phineaus and Ferb on Disney is good too.
You may have to watch Bing in your own time now though Grin

Ubik1 · 30/08/2015 10:45

CBBC pisses me off

It's full of brat characters and idiot adults.

Tracey beaker and another gem 'the dumping ground' make me want to scream.

There's also a dreadful American soap series set around a dance team. Same story every time. They fall out with each, another dance team who are really really good come along. Competition ensues.
Every. Time.

I try to encourage my children to watch the Simpsons and adventure time but sometimes the children slip back into watching cbbc.

Diggum · 30/08/2015 10:57

Annarose I love Puffin Rock! So does DD. It's so cute and beautifully illustrated. We (I) adore Nelly and Nora on RTEJr too.

....And I may also watch Ben and Holly in my spare time.

Thank God DD is 1 and I have a few years left. The "grown up" cartoons scare the crap out of me.

SalemSaberhagen · 30/08/2015 11:04

Jo Popgirl were showing repeats of Sabrina the other week, I was in heaven.

It inspired my namechange Grin

Sister Sister and Keenan and Kel were brilliant as well. 'Iiiiiiii put the screwwww, in the tuna!' Still makes me laugh every time.

Used to love a bit of Trouble as well, with Saved By The Bell, California Dreams and Hang Time. I feel really nostalgic now!

MegBusset · 30/08/2015 11:10

Do they still have the seasons songs on CBeebies? I used to love the summer one that was filmed in Battersea Park, and the autumn one where they're picking apples makes me cry Blush

On the plus side I now get to watch Aquabats on a regular basis. Also love Bear Behaving Badly which is funnier than most 'adult' comedy shows.

CherylTunt · 30/08/2015 11:18

YANBU. Ds is 7 and stopped wanting Cbeebies sometime in the last year or so. But we do still have 40 episodes of Abney and Teal on the Sky box, mainly because I can't bear to delete them, but also because he still likes to watch them when he is tired or under the weather. Also still have six episodes of Timmy Time, which he loved to distraction when he was a toddler, won't watch any more but I just can't get rid of them Blush.

Sometimes when I feel like a wallow I go on YouTube and look for clips of Cbeebies shows Dd used to love (she is 10 so going back a bit)... Roly Mo, Come Outside, Storymakers, Doodle Do. Sob Sad

Jo4040 · 30/08/2015 11:19

"Awww here it go's"

Grin
Stanky · 30/08/2015 11:20

Mine hardly ever watch cbeebies now, but they don't watch cbbc either. We don't have Disney or Nick channels. I'm grateful for that. We watch The Simpsons, Futurama, and Peppa pig dvds. I did used to love the autumn song, and the bed time song.
