The ultra tanned, hair extension, excess make up look. It seems that where i live if you dont have this look you are almost looked down upon! Its expensive and alot of effort and i think im quite attractive the way i am! Rant over Shock

Duck face. This girl has the same face in every single one of the million of her Facebook photos.

Is it just pout, or fillers too?

JeffreyNeedsAHobby · 22/08/2015 00:39

Oh yes, duck face is usually accompanied not only with 'Oh So Serious' face but is also a delicate dance of one bent knee, quarter turn of the body and hand on hip. Oh so very very natural Hmm

Twin with tango skin, caterpillar eyebrows and fake talon claws and you have a photograph that always looks as if everyone is having about as fun as sticking a fork in their eyes.

Theycallmemellowjello · 22/08/2015 00:44

Oh I don't understand the hate for the duck face or hair extensions. It annoys me that women who have them are criticised for being excessively vain but also told that they look awful! Look, either they are supposed to care about what others think or they aren't, it can't be both! Personally I reckon women should just get on with it and present themselves however they like. Which I guess they do anyway, despite the online angst.

Kaekae · 22/08/2015 00:45

Oh how I hate those big eyebrows. They just stand out in a freakish way. I always think women are going to look back at old photos and cringe. The ott fake tanning, it just looks awful and ageing, it looks especially bad when not rubbed in properly around the nose area. Bring back pale and interesting I say!

JeffreyNeedsAHobby · 22/08/2015 00:49

I'd just like to see people smile more.

I can't imagine how they think duck face makes anyone look attractive. It certainly has never made anyone look happy to date. Obviously no one has to look happy in every photo, but smiling once in 4 years worth of FB pics would be nice.

But I do agree that women should do whatever they want. Doesn't stop me from thinking they look ridiculous when they do duck face though.

PennyHasNoSurname · 22/08/2015 01:09

People are starting to look like they live in the Capitol of Panem.

MummaV · 22/08/2015 12:49

I dont know how anyone has the time or money to maintain it on a daily basis.
Some powder, eyeliner and mascara and I'm done in about 2 minutes.
I do however HAVE to have straight hair as my hair is naturally wavy and is cut into a graduated Bob, without straightening I look like I have a mushroom for a head. However its never straightened well as I just don't have the time.

Eyebrows....I don't get the whole drawing on thing. I'm lucky I have good dark eyebrows anyway that require little maintenance but so did friends of mine until they plucked them to death and now draw them on wonkily daily. it looks awful!!

My cousin embodies the eyebrows and the duck face all day everyday. It's not even just for pictures. Awful.

Shockers · 22/08/2015 13:06

A group of schoolgirls passed me in town a few months ago. I couldn't help thinking they looked like lice ridden bar wenches from Ye Olde London Town. Skirts were hitched up; long socks with the uppers laced with contrasting ribbon; birds nest hair piled up high; choker type stretchy things round their necks and low buttoned, cleavage outing shirts.
For school! They must get up at around 4am to perfect that look!

CalmYourselfTubbs · 22/08/2015 13:36

the Dollybird look will die, purely because things change and nothing lasts forever.
think back to the looks and styles of the 80s and 90s and how they too died out eventually.

i reckon those horrific, thick drawn-on eyebrows will be replaced by thin longer ones, similar to what kristen davis (charlotte in sex and the city) has.
the tanned look may take longer to shift i think, but it will die out.
i reckon short hair on women is due a comeback. i notice that Hairspray has opened on the high street in my city. a sure sign if ever there was one that this trend has seen better days and is on its way out.

tobysmum77 · 22/08/2015 13:37

I honestly have no idea what you are talking about Confused

DisappointedOne · 22/08/2015 15:02

Nailed it.

AboutTimeIChangedMyNameAgain · 22/08/2015 15:07

It's the hand on hip pose I don't get, every single photo.

Mintyy · 22/08/2015 15:26

I saw picture in an unpopular online newspaper today (which I will not link to) of the mother of a disabled grown-up son who was badly injured in his care home - so yes extremely serious and very sad story - who had the most extraordinary makeup I have ever seen. Ever. And I did wonder if she really thinks that looks good or ... what?

I know I will be flamed for making a superficial point arising from a serious matter there and I can only apologise.

CalmYourselfTubbs · 22/08/2015 15:47

Mintyy - found it. Yikes!!
Wery sorry for their trouble though.

SaltySeaBird · 22/08/2015 15:56

Oh don't add poker straight hair, mine is naturally like that. Short hair really doesn't suit me and it takes a lot of effort to make it hold a wave or curl of some sort!

MagicMojito · 22/08/2015 16:26

I hate threads like this.I don't wear this particular look but if people feel confident and happy enough to wear it themselves what's the issue?

I wear a full face of make up, I'd never start a thread taking the piss out of woman who choose to wear none but (imo) really should.

To me, its the same thing. If you don't like it, don't do it. Uploading photos to take the piss out of people is just a bit mean IMO.

MagicMojito · 22/08/2015 16:41

OP, My comment is talking about the general tone of this thread, not your original post BTW.
Its not unreasonable to dislike certain trends and to want them to die out.
Its just the way the thread has gone, (blatantly ridiculing women) makes me feel uncomfortable.

MotherOfMinions · 22/08/2015 17:12

I knew this thread would be about Liverpool when I read the OP. Liverpool women have always spent a lot of time and money on their hair and make up, it's a cultural thing there, and once this particular look dies out it will be replaced with another that's just as time consuming. (Glad I left when I was 5 as I feel so plain when I visit my cousins).

I think that look is on it's way out. DD1(19) used to do a version of it a couple of years ago; these days she's sporting a sort of "posh surfer" look. She does the hand on hip half turned pose though.

DD2(16) is more your porcelain Japanese doll look. She does this kind of glazed vacant expression in photosGrin

CalmYourselfTubbs · 22/08/2015 18:19

Tinkly what does the "posh surfer look" look like?
i'm very curious.

AboutTimeIChangedMyNameAgain · 22/08/2015 18:20

Cheshire, they do the hand on hip fake hair and tan thing particularly well.

Birdsgottafly · 22/08/2015 18:55

""The first thing I thought when saw the title of this thread was Liverpool. It could only be couldnt it? The women dress up to the nines to go to for a pint of milk there.""
""I blame Colleen Rooney""

I'm in/from Liverpool, 47, love my tan and tattoo'd eyebrows.

It has nothing to do with CR, it was a look in Liverpool when she was still in school, it wasn't eyebrows, though, it was eyelashes (mine created a draft when I blinked).

Liverpool Women like to dress up, same as Geordies. My DDs get on flights at 7am with rlers in and full make up, we know a fantastic make-up artist who will start at 5am.

""How can they be bothered""

Because we like the look.

""It's vile""

I would never describe someone's appearance as vile, I don't like body hair, people not being clean etc but I'd look at them without judgement.

I (and others who go for this look), just see it as a personal decision and "we" still manage to be friends with others who don't choose this.

But then Liverpool is a lot less bigoted than a lot of places, that's why we ran the "White Man March" etc out of the city, when it's gone ahead in other places.
