To wash everything together at 30c?

It has honestly never occurred to me to do differently . I separate my wash into light colours, whites and darks and change all bedding weekly and towels often but never separate kitchen or bsthroom towels or even cloths that we've used to clean the floor from anything else and wash all at 30. Just reading other threads where people seem to wash at 90 and wondering . Disclaimer : we don't use flannels ! Also been doing it this way for 23 yes and no one ill or dead from it

I used to do the same thing at 40 degrees as I barely ever had enough whites for a full load. I do desperate now we have ds though as lots of his stuff is white and he goes through clothes like wildfire being only 6 weeks old. Grin

Inkymess · 17/08/2015 22:33

I do the same. I only wash hotter if badly stained. I chuck everything in together. Quick wash on eco friendly temp. Is that not the point of a washing machine? I'm amazed that some people wash towels every few days etc

dementedpixie · 17/08/2015 22:35

I separate out colours and whites, etc but wash at 40 with the odd 60 wash for towels and bedding

Stingingthistle · 17/08/2015 22:36

I'm same as you

Bejeena · 17/08/2015 22:38

No I don't think so, I do same although wash at 40, but I know I should just do it on 30

RatOnnaStick · 17/08/2015 22:40

Yeah I bung it all in on a 30° wash or a 40° quick wash except bedding I do at 60° and a couple of cashmere things which go on a delicate cycle.

I don't know anyone who ever uses more than two or three different cycles

Rivercam · 17/08/2015 22:41

I do everything at 40, with towels at 60 every so often.

I tend to separate whites and coloureds, although the odd white pe shorts have been known to get chucked in with the coloureds if I haven't got enough for a white wash. Also, i tend to wash all the heavier stuff together ( jeans, jogging trousers) and the light stuff together (unless there's not enough for two wash loads).

stargazer2030 · 17/08/2015 22:43

I was most stuff at 30 except for bedding and towels which go on at 60. Just to make sure it kills of all the germs.

Koalafications · 17/08/2015 22:45

I'm not even that good. I just bung in all the whites and lights together and the colours and the dark stuff go in another wash.
30 for our stuff.

DD's stuff goes in at 40 with extra rinse.

Towels and bedding in at 60.

KumiOri · 17/08/2015 22:45

everything at 30 (or 40 if too dirty) here.
exept kitchen cloths & tea towels. they are washed with just soda crystals at 60 or 95. -doubles up as mainenance wash every couple of weeks or so.

CoffeeTwo · 17/08/2015 22:48

We chuck everything in together with a colour catcher sheet

Sometimesjustonesecond · 17/08/2015 22:48

I think it has to be 40 to kill bacteria, so I do everything on 40 bar when I want to do a quick 15 min refresh wash which is automatically set at 30. I do bath towells and bedding on 60.

Ineedtimeoff · 17/08/2015 22:51

I found that at 30 my clothes still smelled Sad
perhaps that's just because I'm a sweaty person.
Have gone back to washing at 40 and to separating into whites and darks.

littlejohnnydory · 17/08/2015 22:52

I put everything in together on 40.

What's a colour catcher sheet?????

TheRealAmyLee · 17/08/2015 23:01

Whites/lights or darks. 2 washes. Both 40 degrees.

CoffeeTwo · 17/08/2015 23:04

My hero

To wash everything together at 30c?
BlackeyedSusan · 17/08/2015 23:05

you go to the loo, wipe and wash your hands in warm water and soap and think nothing more about it as you prepare food, yet washing in the machine, which is in contact with the detergent for significantly longer, can not be clean unless washed at 90 with extra disinfectant. doesn't make sense.

SchwarzwalderKirschtorte · 17/08/2015 23:06

OH does the washing here. :)

Think most things go in a 40 wash apart from undies and sheets/towels.

They get a 60.

Personally I would use a quick wash for most clothes as nothing gets really dirty. But that's not my circus, not my monkeys so I say nothing. :)

lisalisa · 17/08/2015 23:08

Hmmm. So those who wash at 60 is that to kill germs ? Does this mean that my 30c wash has never got rid of germs.?it does smell nice and clean well though .

Whites/darks being black or very navy/lights are more complicated for me Blush, i do a red and pink wash, a beige and cream wash a greens wash and a browns and a light coloured jeans wash, most go on at 30 degrees, i wash daily sometimes twice a day. I do put tne whites on a 40 though and use zoflora for towels and bedding as an extra rinse.

TheHappinessTrap · 17/08/2015 23:11

My clothes get a 30 min cold wash. Bedding and towels get a 30 degree wash, sometimes on a quick cycle too but often a longer one. I have mostly natural fabrics, like cotton, and I don't tend to stain things. We line ddry everything. They are clean, smell good and last a long time. My partner does his stuff on 40 for long washes and replaces his shirts on a near yearly basis.

GraceK · 17/08/2015 23:12

Washing at 30 is fine so long as you don't have nits - in which case you need a minimum of 40 & preferably 50 or to quote a nice lady on Radio 4, "you just end up with clean head lice." as below that temperature the little blighters survive.
