To leave bedding on for two weeks?

Not riveting this topic, I know!

I've been unwell recently, still not great but a bit better. I'm a SAHM and care for my ds who is 14 with autism and OCD. It can be exhausting.

Obviously, as I'm not working, I do all household jobs/gardening/errand running etc and DH is often away. This weekend, I though f**k it! I'm NOT changing the beds (I usually do all beds on a Sunday). My question is: do you strip and change your beds weekly? Also towels... We each have bath sheets which get changed twice weekly. My niece recently stayed and went through 4 bath sheets in 2 days. We shower morning and evening (though ds just showers and hair wash each morning).

Love that card I won't even need to mark the date as this is about my average wear to wash ratio for my jeans - just get them worn in and baggy enough when I throw my dinner at them and have to wash them Grin

I also have skin which rebels if I bathe more than a couple of times a week.

Weebirdie · 17/08/2015 17:11

I have no idea what other people are doing in their beds that requires such frequent changing

Its just the nicest feeling to get into a freshly changed bed everyday and all the more so if hot flushes mean you spend quite a bit of the night searching out a patch of cool crisp sheet and pillow to get some respite - even with the AC on.

SmillasSenseOfSnow · 17/08/2015 17:11

I've taken to changing the sheet far more often than the duvet and pillow covers, because it's the thing that gets annoying to lie on once it's been used for a while and got wrinkly and/or sweaty. I've also been known to throw the pillow cases in more often than the duvet covers for the same reason. It might be different if we had our own washing machine though - less of a need to prioritise what goes in each week.

BoulevardOfBrokenSleep · 17/08/2015 17:13

We have three beds in use, I change one a week so clean linen every three weeks. That's a king, a double, and a single bloody cabin bed.

Where the hell would I hang them all up if I washed them all at once? Having guests in the spare (king) bed buggers up the system enough...

SmillasSenseOfSnow · 17/08/2015 17:13

Forgot to mention how often - definitely no more often than weekly, and seldom that.

SusanHollander · 17/08/2015 17:17

Every week. Just habit, I like having clean sheets each week but I'm not devastated by those who don't, there are worse things. OP YANBU. Towels ...I aim for every week, but I am of the being clean when I use them mindset. I have clean pjs every night as do the kids, just because I love it...for them it's because their night nappies make their pjs smell.

Dishcloths and tea towels probably every day, certainly every day for dishcloths. Hand towels every week or more if looking grubby.

I'm one of those people who enjoys washing, hanging it out, folding it and putting it away etc and it's what DH calls my 'mummy bustle' as I'm always bustling about cleaning and washing apparently Hmm

I wash clothes every day without fail, pretty much nothing gets hung back up....but two toddlers makes that inevitable.

Maltesermom · 17/08/2015 17:18

Hmmm more than 4 weeks in our household. 2 adults and 3 dcs, no disability. One DC is in school, the other dc is one who attracts dirt, the last dc is a baby and my DP is a mechanic, their clothes all take priority over bedding and my washing.
I also spend time with my children and am not in the house 24/7 so i haven't a clue how i would get them done more regularly.
Don't worry OP x

DisappointedOne · 17/08/2015 17:22

Weekly? I change them monthly at best!

WhyCantIuseTheNameIWant · 17/08/2015 17:23

Forntnight is fine, as long as they don't stink!
Xp sweated no end, so they had to be washed every 3-4 days. Awful...
Now though, whenever it looks like a sunny day to dry them, they get washed about once a week. Maybe 10 days if w are busy.

Welshmaenad · 17/08/2015 17:29

Our bottom sheet and dh's duvet cover get done 1-2 a week as he's a sweaty bastard. My duvet cover and pillowcases probably fortnightly. Kids bedding every 3-4 weeks to be honest. It doesn't need doing more frequently, they're small, they don't sweat, and the job to bed right after a shower and in clean pjs.

asstnitoma · 17/08/2015 17:33

I am OCD and I do wash my towels after every use! Grin beds are done every 5-7 days. Once you're into routine it's not that difficult and I can't see what's wrong with doing it so often? I am obsessed with smells, if I can't smell the fabric softener, it has to be washed! And towels....I read an article once, about how many 'poo particles' were left on a towel. It was a gross read and made me even worse! Envy

elementofsurprise · 17/08/2015 17:34

To those who think it's revolting to change your sheets less than weekly... How often do you wash your sofa cushions? Say the sofa gets sat on for 2-4 hours a day. Bed gets slept in 8hrs a night. Sofa cushions should be washed every 2-4 weeks by that oh so scientific calculation...?

Unless you sleep naked and sweat a lot or, er, anything else gets the sheets dirty... Blush

Ragwort · 17/08/2015 17:35

Its just the nicest feeling to get into a freshly changed bed everyday - totally agree, but it must also be a nice feeling to know that you have a laundry shute and someone else available to do your washing. Grin

SirChenjin · 17/08/2015 17:36

Depends - weekly/fortnightly, depending on how I feel, whether I've got time, what the weather is like, etc. If someone else was doing my washing and I had time in the day to strip 5 people's beds then it would get done more often, but as it is, it's done when there's time/inclination.

Notso · 17/08/2015 17:38

I don't really have a schedule. I just change them when the mood takes me, usually when they stop smelling clean or feeling clean. DD does hers weekly. DS1 hate clean sheets so I have a battle with him to get them washed. Small DC get them changed often as they always seem to be snotty and DS3 gets loads of nose bleeds.
Towels wash gets done once a week.

crazykat · 17/08/2015 17:40

I change all beds every Friday unless I've changed ds's bed in the week as he still has the odd accident.

Towels are washed after every use. Partly because I don't like the idea of re-using a towel and partly because there's six of us and we don't have space to hang six towels up to dry overnight, even if I did have space I generally have to use them to dry the bathroom floor after the dcs have been in the shower so they're soaking wet and wouldn't dry in time anyway.

It's each to their own though. I'd love to get in a freshly made bed every night after my shower as I love the feeling of fresh bedding, however I have neither the time not inclination to change a kingside bed every day.

rookiemere · 17/08/2015 17:40

Minimum fortnightly - sometimes a bit more frequently in the summer when they get smelly more quickly.

Dawndonnaagain · 17/08/2015 18:00

Bleach why are you being so unkind? Is it really necessary?

Weebirdie · 17/08/2015 18:00

Whats in a wash? Grin

Bung it in the machine, line dry in half an hour at most, then a quick run through the steam roller. It can be done in 90 mins. I then re do the beds.

The shute is just a couple of shafts behind a cupboard door along the hall that lead down to the laundry hamper.

Easy Peasy for all concerned. Smile

Thats the kind of attention she wants Wink

bettyberry · 17/08/2015 18:01

I have a ridiculous number of towels and wash them often and hot. Use twice and wash.

Beds I'm usually weekly but If I get my period when its bed day I leave it until Its over. If I'm sick I tend to leave it too.

I don't use duvets though. I have 2 thin handmade quilts and blankets so cycle through them with 2 sheets ( I need heavy feeling to settle well. Duvets are warm but too light) washing the sheets/pillow cases and a blanket at a time.

Pillows are washed every couple of months due to allergies. Pillow protectors every other bed change they are washed.

Aye, and it being the summer holidays, I've reported.

Weebirdie · 17/08/2015 18:13

Aye, and it being the summer holidays, I've reported.

So did I.

Queenbean · 17/08/2015 18:17

Those who wash your bedding and towels so often, aren't your bills huge? Especially if you're using the tumble drier to dry everything as well?

And ironing bed covers seems like such a waste of time - they're hardly crinkled at all from drying

Dawndonnaagain · 17/08/2015 18:19

Queenbean
Yes, it's expensive. I have to do as an absolute minimum, one set of single and one set of double covers daily. No choices. It also costs a lot in replacements, sheets that are washed that often don't last as long.
