Aibu to want this presenter fired...

I'm all for freedom of speech but I think as a radio presenter on BBC you do need to have some standards. He describes (from minutes 9-12) how breastfeeding is 'unnatural' and 'guys' don't want to see it in public. He describes a situation on a bus with a larger lady breastfeeding. He's not a rent a gob guest- he's the presenter. So aibu to want him off the airwaves?

I agree it is ridiculous to call breast feeding mothers "vulnerable". Thay ar not in the slightest.

PuntasticUsername · 15/08/2015 09:15

Er...yes, yes they are.

Oh god I do love Adam Hills.

Charis1 · 15/08/2015 09:39

Er...yes, yes they are. what complete and total rubbish. What a demeaning, belittling and patronising thing to say. You are no better than the original radio presenter. Why would you slate all breast feeding mums like that. Individuals amongst them may be "vulnerable" but to clai the whole group is, is an ignorant, prejudiced thing to say.

thehypocritesoaf · 15/08/2015 09:48

Controversial bbc radio presenter.

Or just a cunt?

It's funny how these 'controversial people's' controversial subject is usually about women and what they should and should not do.

They never do, hmm, why operation yew tree is disproportionately full of Middle Aged dee jays. Or why ugly thick men are paid so well by the bbc. Or even how middle aged men with wacky glasses and long hair have the audacity to be out in public and think people fancy them.
Etc etc. etc.

tiredvommachine · 15/08/2015 10:30

What you said

Pasithea · 15/08/2015 10:31

Ohhhhh ffs. He expressed his opinion rightly or wrongly. That has nothing to do with his looks hair length , age choice of glasses . Whether anyone fancies him.

Grow up and argue the argument with valid appropriate points.

thehypocritesoaf · 15/08/2015 10:35

Eh- you didnt read/hear what he said, did you?

JassyRadlett · 15/08/2015 10:36

Grow up and argue the argument with valid appropriate points.

Such as people repeatedly pointing out that, when people express their opinions when representing or speaking on behalf of or on a platform provided by their employers, they should be prepared for the consequences of their actions?

Or is personal responsibility for one's actions a little too grown up for some tastes?

Iggi999 · 15/08/2015 11:00

Princess - thanks for the link

CarpeJugulum · 15/08/2015 11:06

Princess28 thank you for posting that. DH is now looking at me in surprise as I've just choked on my coffee. Grin

"Ohhhhh ffs. He expressed his opinion rightly or wrongly. That has nothing to do with his looks hair length , age choice of glasses . Whether anyone fancies him."

"Grow up and argue the argument with valid appropriate points."

Or alternatively:

Ohhhhh ffs. She fed her baby. Rightly, because there is no wrongly. That has nothing to do with her looks, her weight, how chavvy he thinks she is, her age, her choice of transport, or whether this dickhead fancied her or not.

He needs to grow up stop spouting shit with his invalid, inappropriate points about breastfeeding being unnatural or only for skinny, classy mothers he feels like perving over.

Because he brought her looks into it as a reason why she shouldn't breastfeed, so he can't complain when his looks are also discussed. The ugly, ignorant sod.

tobysmum77 · 15/08/2015 11:42

charis the same can be said for any group of people protected by the equality act.

Hygge · 15/08/2015 11:46

ptumbi and pneumometer that's exactly the sort of thing I was thinking off. Grin

BoneyBackJefferson · 15/08/2015 12:27

Pasithea
"argue the argument with valid appropriate points."

You mean like he did? What he said had no bearing on breast feeding.

PeppaWellington · 15/08/2015 12:57

I think we should treat people the way they treat others.

So when alex dyke brought looks and sexual attractiveness into the debate on women who breastfeed outside their own personal cupboard, I think it's ok to reciprocate and use my opinion on his looks in my opinion of him. How can he object to that?

Adam Hills said 'cockwomble' - I love him a little bit more and I didn't think that was possible.

SawdustInMyHair · 15/08/2015 13:16

it's one thing to say in passing that you don't like seeing breastfeeding, or make a joke about it or whatever. I wouldn't like it, but I wouldn't want to see someone fired over it.

However he's gone on a long and terribly inaccurate rant, while being paid to be on the radio by a publicly-funded broadcaster. I actually think it's quite hateful of women and breastfeeding women in particular. When you read the whole thing it's clear he wasn't just 'having an opinion', he was having a misogynistic rant. How women are allowed to behave in public is constantly policed by people like him, and at minimum he should have to make a proper on-air apology. I don't know if I want him fired (I'm too nice :p), but I think if I was his manager I'd be seriously considering it.

PuntasticUsername · 15/08/2015 13:22

Wow Charis you got all that from my five words? Grin

Fuck off.

YonicScrewdriver · 15/08/2015 13:25

Exactly sawdust. It was a massive piece of nastiness attacking both individuals and a group at length. Not "ooh, I saw someone BF on the bus, that always seems a bit strange to me but hey!"

MrsItsNoworNotatAll · 15/08/2015 16:12

Thing is you won't change the thinking of knobheads like him. I still don't think he should be fired but he should be fired but he should definitely make a grovelling apology. Because if he actually does stand by what he's said then then I reckon he'll find making an apology harder than getting the sack.

MrsItsNoworNotatAll · 15/08/2015 16:14

My last post went a bit weird, sorry I got interrupted. He shouldn't be fired but should apologise for the shit he spouted.

thehypocritesoaf · 15/08/2015 18:08

I'm still staggered that passithea thinks Ffs I should grow up for talking about looks and sexual availability but believes that Alex dyke deserves a platform on the bbc and a good wage for doing similar.

How on earth does that work passit?

tobysmum77 · 15/08/2015 19:37

Yeah but you're a woman, he's a bloke... its different Wink
