To miss the days when people were just 'thirsty'?!

What's all this shit with, 'hydrating'? It's called drinking fucking water!

Whenever I hear someone claiming to be 'dehydrated', I want to reach for my revolver. No, dear, you're not dehydrated, you're just thirsty. It won't hurt you to wait twenty minutes for a drink.

Advanced capitalism, combined with nanny-statism seems to have fostered a nation of adult-babies who can't got five minutes without a snack, needing a piss, or a plastic bottle to suck on. It truly does my head in.

I can't remember the last time I sat through a film or a play without multiple audience members nipping out at least once during the show. Yes, I do appreciate that SOME people suffer incontinence, or might have needed a shot of insulin but, come on, not on this scale!

I'd be happier with a separate screen for the miserable gits who tut and frown every time someone disturbs their perfect day out by committing a heinous act like using the toilet or eating. The horror! The shock!

morelikeguidelines · 13/08/2015 14:31

Also am drinking water right now... Mmm lovely water!

gamerchick · 13/08/2015 14:31

I hear twilight zone music when I click on his thread.

Water doesn't hydrate? Some seriously strange thoughts out there Hmm

Tenieht · 13/08/2015 14:32

It's antisocial, makes a stupid noise when they suck on the bottle , looks infantile in meetings , and is also passive aggressive.

gamerchick · 13/08/2015 14:32

Heh I'm drinking it as well. Grin aldi do crates of the stuff for 2 quid.

ProvisionallyAnxious · 13/08/2015 14:33

How is drinking water passive aggressive?!

squoosh · 13/08/2015 14:33

How is drinking water 'passive aggressive'?

ProvisionallyAnxious · 13/08/2015 14:33

Mumsnet HQ, we need a bottled water smiley to hand out in lieu of biscuits. Grin

Feline9 · 13/08/2015 14:34
  1. antisocial - how?

  2. makes a stupid noise - it's possible to not make the noise

  3. looks infantile - sorry but others don't have to look a certain way to please you

  4. passive aggressive - explain this one

ProvisionallyAnxious · 13/08/2015 14:34

squoosh

You took the words right out of my mouth. Grin

1hamwich4 · 13/08/2015 14:35

I know what you mean, OP. Invigilating exams I see a lot of frantic shuffling as students try to arrange all their pens, bottles, calculators and sucky sweets on their tiny desks without them falling off. I indulge in a quiet eye-roll all to myself.

I can't help but think that they could probably manage without the sweets and drinks for a couple of hours. I seem to be able to.

Predictably there are a series of toilet breaks about 20mins before the end, too. Not a huge issue but disturbing for the other candidates.

morelikeguidelines · 13/08/2015 14:35

Saul funnily enough I find people talking about their eating and drinking habits annoying too! Especially if they say things like "I need something hot" or "I fancy something sweet" with a kind of emphasis on that last word.

Also when people say "Mmmmm" when they are eating, like I just did!

ThursdayLast · 13/08/2015 14:36

This is the kind of mad thread that makes me happy to be a MNer Grin

ProvisionallyAnxious · 13/08/2015 14:36

In spite of this thread (which tickles me no end), the only angst I have about drinking bottled water is that I tend to re-use plastic bottles, which I understand can be bad for you, and still haven't got around to buying a decent reusable bottle. Of course this could all be a myth spread by the reusable bottle cartels.

Tenieht · 13/08/2015 14:37

The act of taking these bottles everhwhere and putting them on a desk is a marking of territory of sorts and can be passive aggressive particularly when used as a noisy, attention seeking prop. I hate it.

Feline9 · 13/08/2015 14:39

ten I'm flabbergasted how you can seriously think that unless you are suffering from paranoia..

Tenieht · 13/08/2015 14:42

I think also what's come through clearly in this thread is the sense of entitlement people feel around whether they disturb others with their habits which are annoying.

ProvisionallyAnxious · 13/08/2015 14:43

I have both a water bottle and a thermos flash sat at my desk right now. I do hope my office-mates don't think I am territorially claiming a desk that I have worked at for two years!

Feline9 · 13/08/2015 14:44

I don't think you're in any position to talk about sense of entitlement when your complaints are "I don't like the way it looks" and you think people shouldn't use the toilet because it disturbs you

morelikeguidelines · 13/08/2015 14:44

Ten, that really is such bollocks!

I think what has come through this thread is how incredibly controlling some people are re their environment.

ProvisionallyAnxious · 13/08/2015 14:44

No, what's coming through is that many people feel it is perfectly sane and normal to drink water reasonably regularly, and that people who find that annoying / territorial / passive aggressive can just cope.

IAmLynetteScavo · 13/08/2015 14:54

Lies, drinking when thirsty is SO passive aggressive. Hmm What a load of shit.

The only entitled people on this thread are the ones who think that other people should be uncomfortable for no reason other than irrational thought processes.

Queeltie · 13/08/2015 14:55

Drink and eat as often as you want. But no, constantly sipping water and snacking is not better for you.
Bottled water companies promote the drinking of lots of water. But unless you have a medical problem, you only need to drink when you are thirsty.
And you should be able to cope without drinking or snacking for a few hours.

Feline9 · 13/08/2015 14:57

and you should be able to cope

Why do people think it's weakness to eat when hungry/drink when thirsty? You don't get a medal for fasting Confused

Queeltie · 13/08/2015 15:00

Because we all at times have periods where we can not eat or drink.
And snacking means people never feel really hungry which can fuel over eating.
