To miss the days when people were just 'thirsty'?!

What's all this shit with, 'hydrating'? It's called drinking fucking water!

Whenever I hear someone claiming to be 'dehydrated', I want to reach for my revolver. No, dear, you're not dehydrated, you're just thirsty. It won't hurt you to wait twenty minutes for a drink.

Advanced capitalism, combined with nanny-statism seems to have fostered a nation of adult-babies who can't got five minutes without a snack, needing a piss, or a plastic bottle to suck on. It truly does my head in.

I can't remember the last time I sat through a film or a play without multiple audience members nipping out at least once during the show. Yes, I do appreciate that SOME people suffer incontinence, or might have needed a shot of insulin but, come on, not on this scale!

And I am still waiting, with keen anticipation, to hear how it is that you can tell treaclesoda what she was told at her hospital appointment, when you weren't there, Charis!!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 16/08/2015 15:24

Garlick - I have a permanently blocked-up nose - unless I use nasal decongestants all the time (which my consultant did not recommend) - so I have to mouth-breathe - is that OK with you?

And if someone does have a dry mouth, why the feck shouldn't they have a drink? Are they supposed to just suffer in silence, lest they offend some fragile soul like Tenieht or Charis?

Charis1 · 16/08/2015 15:24

I have drunk pure water from a spring on the hillside near where I grew up. The spring was natural, the water was natural, and it was pure (according to the scientists who tested it).

obviously it wasn't pure, don't be daft.

And even water that has been treated is far closer to nature than cola or irnbru or other fizzy drinks fullof chemicals!

no, the ironbru would be far more natural water potential

There are a lot of posters on here who simply don't seem to know anything what so ever about this. You can find all this out in a standard biology text book, it isn't secret information or anything.

treaclesoda · 16/08/2015 15:24

Yes, it's quite a weird feeling to know that some random on the internet apparently knows what was said at your medical appointment. Wink

Onepot · 16/08/2015 15:26

I am just saying they are not always available, and a normal healthy adult can easily work for the day without a drink if they have to, if it isn't too hot
Shock well yes possibly they could but its not to be recommended and would hugely depend on the job, oh and their wee would be dark yellow or possibly towards orange, which are signs of dehydration!

Charis1 · 16/08/2015 15:26

And if someone does have a dry mouth there are genuine reasons to ned to sip water, and a dry mouth is one of them, but this is less than 1% of the sucklers, and isn't a problem.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 16/08/2015 15:27

treaclesoda

But I was there at your appointment! I remembered it. and you looked lovely Smile

treaclesoda · 16/08/2015 15:28

Zing did I look like I was glowing with health and well hydrated ?Grin

Garlick · 16/08/2015 15:29

SDTG, the fact that you have a frustrating health condition doesn't explain the millions of people thinking they're thirsty enough to need constant drinks!

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 16/08/2015 15:29
SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 16/08/2015 15:30

I was there too, zing - a bit crowded, wasn't it - what with you, me, treacle, Charis and the medical staff!

Mind you Charis is clearly omniscient as well as omnipresent, since she knows everything about the springs where I grew up!

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 16/08/2015 15:30

treacle

you looked right as rain to meWink

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 16/08/2015 15:31

springs, summers....ah, good old days.

Garlick · 16/08/2015 15:35

I'm not a science teacher, but pure water = H2O. H2O + minerals, bacteria, small animal parts, plant material or chlorine isn't pure. Good enough to drink, quite possibly.

Charis1 · 16/08/2015 15:36

Mind you Charis is clearly omniscient as well as omnipresent, since she knows everything about the springs where I grew up!

Ask yourself if it is even remotely possible for pure water to come out of the ground!!

of course it isn't! There is absolutly 0.000% possibility that this could have ever happened.

Surely you realise that. I'm sure you do, really. I don't think it is possible someone could misunderstand the natural world to that extent. I'm not going to bother telling you again, I think you are just pretending to believe in this super natural miracle!

Charis1 · 16/08/2015 15:38

Good enough to drink, quite possibly. - yes possibley STDG was told it was safe to drink and has got confused. I don't know,

HungryHorace · 16/08/2015 15:45

Air con / central heating in offices are both really drying. This, combined with numerous phone calls in a day, give me a dry mouth, so I drink a fair amount because of that. And I'm not sorry about it!

I'm not sure how getting some tap water and going back to my desk is less productive than filling a kettle, waiting for it to boil, waiting for the tea to brew and then heading back to my desk, mind you.

ArgyMargy · 16/08/2015 15:49

Charis I think SDTG was using the word "pure" in the same way that many people nowadays use the word "literally". So, probably "literally pure" water came out of the ground.

ppeatfruit · 16/08/2015 15:55

You're still not commenting on the evils of fizzy, brown chemical \sugar water drinks Charis. Perhaps you're another addict and it makes you cross that other people don't drink coke all day.

Only water Grin

Want2bSupermum · 16/08/2015 16:00

I think we lead very unhealthy lifestyles. I drink a lot of water for a few reasons.

#1 I spend about 4 hours a day on the phone where I am required to speak. Its awful for my mouth.

#2 A/C kills me along with high heating in winter.

#3 Stress makes me sweat. I often find myself in high stress situations where I find myself sweating.

#4 Food. Most food today is very high in salt.

I drink tap water now I'm in a town that meets regulations. Where we used to live had terrible water and I drank about 6-8 bottles a day. I try not to snack during the day but it's hard.

stayanotherday · 16/08/2015 16:09

Yes some places have terrible water. I can't get used to drinking tap water, wish I could.

ppeatfruit · 16/08/2015 16:13

I started filtering the tap water after learning about the prevalence of female hormones, and the stink and taste of chlorine in it.

SquirrelledAway · 16/08/2015 16:21

Charis

If you are feeling thirsty then you are already dehydrated.

This is a complete lie.

Actually, I'm surprised to see it turning up here again, I thought everyone knew this is an advertising gimmick, with no truth in it what so ever.

Please do share this opinion with the World Health Organisation:

"Dehydration is the adverse consequence of inadequate water intake. The
symptoms of acute dehydration vary with the degree of water deficit. For
example, fluid loss at 1% of body weight impairs thermoregulation and, thirst occurs at this level of dehydration. Thirst increases at 2%, with dry mouth appearing at approximately 3%."

(From: WHO Water Requirements, Impinging Factors, and Recommended Intakes, 1994).

Unless, as someone pointed out upthread, WHO are sponsored by Evian.

NinjaLeprechaun · 16/08/2015 16:22

"Do you know what "hydration" means?"

For anybody who's still unclear on this: "Hydrate: Cause to absorb water." from the root "Hydro- : Having to do with water." From the Oxford Dictionary.

Charis the idea that you could be a science teacher, based on some of the crazy shite you have spewed on this thread frankly terrifies me.

And I don't even like drinking water.

MitzyLeFrouf · 16/08/2015 16:25

She's a science teacher!? Grin

Crumbs, I thought they could be relied on to be y'know, rational.
