To miss the days when people were just 'thirsty'?!

What's all this shit with, 'hydrating'? It's called drinking fucking water!

Whenever I hear someone claiming to be 'dehydrated', I want to reach for my revolver. No, dear, you're not dehydrated, you're just thirsty. It won't hurt you to wait twenty minutes for a drink.

Advanced capitalism, combined with nanny-statism seems to have fostered a nation of adult-babies who can't got five minutes without a snack, needing a piss, or a plastic bottle to suck on. It truly does my head in.

I can't remember the last time I sat through a film or a play without multiple audience members nipping out at least once during the show. Yes, I do appreciate that SOME people suffer incontinence, or might have needed a shot of insulin but, come on, not on this scale!

I'm not 'in denial', I just don't think buying a bottle of water, when thirsty, instead of bottled 'other drink', three or four times a year is crime of the century. How many plastic milk bottles do we get through a year? The dairy industry makes Nestle look like Nelson Mandella which is why I don't buy milk, but the water haters say drinking tea and coffee at work is fine.

if you buy coke or something at least you are buying something that you can't get any other way

I don't want it any which way, and coke is drinking the world dry

Tenieht · 16/08/2015 10:53

People really should consider others before doing things that impact people's lives, whatever that's about . The act of drinking water seems innocent enough but the places and times it happens and in particular the bottle suckling habits are just so out of control now some day soon controls will have to be brought in. There used to be more public drinking fountains , perhaps these should be reinstated to prevent the need for people to fee they need to drink whenever they like, on the run. That would solve some of the issues. If people felt they had certain times and opportunities to drink, there would be less constant sipping and toilet trips. This both helps the environment and would save a hell of a lot of time across the country each working week.

BertrandRussell · 16/08/2015 10:54

Happy to join a thread a thread about the soft drinks industry or about dairy farming. This one is about water. Deflection is another form of denial.

MitzyLeFrouf · 16/08/2015 10:56

No controls will be brought in you absolute ninny so I suggest you learnt to control your hysteria.

CaptainHolt · 16/08/2015 11:02

So what am I in denial over? Please enlighten me. Actually don't, I can't stand any more of your pointless, point missing, patronisation. I know that water is available from the tap in a more environmentally friendly way than in plastic bottle, because I don't live in a cave. I am aware that is has been marketed, because I am old and can still remember when evian actually got people to squirt water in their faces. What I absolutely refuse to do is get all riled up that people have the audacity to drink the bloody stuff when they are thirsty and pretend it is morally inferior to drinking other, environment stripping, drinks.

I'm off out now, and I'm taking a bottle of water with me is a plastic Shock reusable bottle. It's not even from the tap Shock Shock I filled it up from the spring when I was out this morning - running - another activity that has been heavily marketed. I'm such a sucker Sad

nicestrongtea · 16/08/2015 11:07

Denial ??
Im not in denial- did you read anything I wrote !

I don't buy bottled water because I don't agree with it and its damaging to the environment.
I do drink water( from a tap) to manage my chronic ,constant problem with Utis.

Tenieht if you really think that someone drinking water in your presence impacts on your life so negatively I would suggest that you probably need to access some help.

MitzyLeFrouf · 16/08/2015 11:08

People really should consider others before doing things that impact people's lives

Still waiting to hear how people drinking water impacts your life.....

nicestrongtea · 16/08/2015 11:12

My daughter is drinking water right now, in front of me

If she then goes to the loo I may explode Grin

Tenieht · 16/08/2015 11:18

Her drink is probably unnecessary, as will be the additional toilet trip she masked. Both waste precious resources.

Tenieht · 16/08/2015 11:18

The toilet trip she makes.

MitzyLeFrouf · 16/08/2015 11:20

But the tea and coffee drinkers don't waste precious resources do they?

Hmmm? Hmmmm?

Any unnecessary drinking wastes resources but we are talking about water specifically here.

MitzyLeFrouf · 16/08/2015 11:26

I think it's helpful to point out that your bizarre rants can also be applied to every other drink that people consume. So obviously tea and coffee are relevant to the thread.

Try and apply some logic to your ravings. It will make you seem a little less loony.

MitzyLeFrouf · 16/08/2015 11:27

Will controls also be placed on tea and coffee drinkers in the near future? Are they also being passive aqgressive with their choice of drink?

GrumpyOldBiddy2 · 16/08/2015 11:28

Where am I in what sense? Country of residence? Workplace?

Tenieht · 16/08/2015 11:31

The only way to truly deal with the problem would be to ration water, which I accept is unlikely to happen. However I do think people should look beyond the marketing hype and psychological crutches they are clearly so wedded to and ask themselves if what they are doing is really necessary.

GrumpyOldBiddy2 · 16/08/2015 11:31

Captain Holt

I'd forgotten about that! 'Upper dermis hydration'. I believe it was called Grin

My sister had some (she worked in a spa and used to some home with stuff like that), she was so hurt when we pointed out that it meant - it wets your skin!

MaryBerrysEyelashes · 16/08/2015 11:32

God yes. In England. Clutching water as if it's the Sahara. Drives me nuts

nicestrongtea · 16/08/2015 11:32

I was taking the piss out of you Tenieht boom tish Grin

I think you must be actually winding this thread up or very stupid

She just got out of bed and poured herself a glass of water.
I know,teenagers, they are so inconsiderate !

MitzyLeFrouf · 16/08/2015 11:33

I think you could benefit from increasing your daily fluid intake.

CoteDAzur · 16/08/2015 11:56

"The act of drinking water seems innocent enough but the places and times it happens and in particular the bottle suckling habits are just so out of control now some day soon controls will have to be brought in."

What utter tosh. Only on MN Grin

GrumpyOldBiddy2 · 16/08/2015 12:02

I've been trying to think where I know the username Charis from - Charis, are you the person who thinks that smoking in pregnancy is not as bad for the baby as people would have us believe?

BertrandRussell · 16/08/2015 12:14

The trouble with having clearly bonkers posters like Charis on a thread is that they draw all the attention, and enables deniers to deny. And allows people to say daft stuff like drinking water lowers blood pressure or whatever it was unchallenged.

treaclesoda · 16/08/2015 12:26

I find it so hard to tell on mumsnet sometimes if people are joking. Tenhieht I'm sort of assuming you're winding us up because I can't get my head around anyone being so unreasonable.

But assuming you are serious, I presume you would wish to also outlaw exercise? Seeing as working up a sweat tends to make people thirsty? Is going for a run also a selfish waste of resources?

What about drinking water to keep headaches at bay? To prevent UTIs? To stop lightheadedness? All a selfish waste of resources?
