To miss the days when people were just 'thirsty'?!

What's all this shit with, 'hydrating'? It's called drinking fucking water!

Whenever I hear someone claiming to be 'dehydrated', I want to reach for my revolver. No, dear, you're not dehydrated, you're just thirsty. It won't hurt you to wait twenty minutes for a drink.

Advanced capitalism, combined with nanny-statism seems to have fostered a nation of adult-babies who can't got five minutes without a snack, needing a piss, or a plastic bottle to suck on. It truly does my head in.

I can't remember the last time I sat through a film or a play without multiple audience members nipping out at least once during the show. Yes, I do appreciate that SOME people suffer incontinence, or might have needed a shot of insulin but, come on, not on this scale!

tea and coffee is less environmentally damaging, causes fewer health problems..... need I go on?

squoosh · 14/08/2015 11:59

Um. How is tea and coffee 'cleaner and more hygienic'?

Feline9 · 14/08/2015 12:00

How does it cause fewer health problems and it isn't more hydrating. Also if someone wants to drink from an unclean bottle how does that affect you?

squoosh · 14/08/2015 12:00

Yes please do go on. Because you're not currently making much sense.

Feline9 · 14/08/2015 12:01

I can't believe some people want to police what people drink. Tea and coffee is okay, water is not. Sorry but who exactly are you to dictate that?

Charis1 · 14/08/2015 12:01

So on a 12 hour shift I shouldn't drink, neither should my colleagues ? no, drink with your meal, and have a tea break, or even two, but don't suckle at your desk all day.

Ubik1 · 14/08/2015 12:02

You know that whole water/brain/cognition thing is just marketing bollocks don't you.

SquirrelledAway · 14/08/2015 12:03

Yes, I've been to Death Valley. It was 47 degrees and bloody hot.

But it reinforces the fact that people don't realise how much water their body loses through insensible loss (clue is in the name).

gamerchick · 14/08/2015 12:03

Tea and coffee is vile and you still need water to make it. Yanno that stuff that seems to offend some.

We need water, our bodies are made up with quite a bit of it. Saying we don't need it is like those loons who say they don't need to eat and get nourishment from sunlight. It makes you look unhinged.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 14/08/2015 12:04

maybe don't call it suckle

problem solved

Feline9 · 14/08/2015 12:05

I drink all my drinks when in public through a straw charis, does that offend you too?

gamerchick · 14/08/2015 12:05

And boiling a kettle to make said tea or coffee isn't good neither. Kettles are one of the top energy leeches next to microwaves, way better for the environment Hmm

squoosh · 14/08/2015 12:06

'this stupid adult-baby suckling fad has got such a grip on society'

  • applicable to tea and coffee drinkers. You can't move on a high street for a new Costa or Starbucks, or walk down a street without seeing tens of people clutching their hot beverage.

'we are constantly having to pussy foot around the sucklers, provide water'

  • also applicable to tea and coffee drinkers

'provide drinking breaks'

  • also applicable to tea and coffee drinkers,

'clear up spillages'

  • also applicable to tea and coffee drinkers

'not to mention the medical and environmental damage we all have to pay for, and the LITTER'

  • also applicable to tea and coffee drinkers
BertrandRussell · 14/08/2015 12:07

"
Thirst is a sign you're already dehydrated.. You're not supposed to feel thirsty much"

Evidence please? Preferably from research not sponsored by the bottled water industry.

Cotto · 14/08/2015 12:08

I don't sit at a desk all day.
Im on my feet all day, constantly moving, running in an emergency, it gets very hot - I probably walk 7 miles a day on average.

"drink with your meal and have a tea break"

I would love to but often I don't get one !

Please stop saying "suckle" its rather demeaning , I drink from a water bottle with a large opening- similar to a glass ,with a lid that closes over it.

squoosh · 14/08/2015 12:08

Be outraged at the bottled water industry by all means but frothing over water drinkers and yet failing to apply the same logic to the hot drinks brigade is indeed obtuse.

Charis1 · 14/08/2015 12:11

people are not aware of how bacteria in water live and reproduce. Many of them multiply when they come into contact with solids, so the quality of water from the tap, is just that, the standard of water from a tap. This is why all critical water testing is done at the source. You can do a certain amount by storing it and transporting it, but not all.

bottled water is sterilised. Tap water isn't, and the bacteria in it multiply very fast when it is put into a bottle and left lying around, then when you add the bacteria from your saliva as well, you can easily end up with a nasty concoction. It depends on what comes from your saliva. if the bacteria are from a range of species, and they all grow, the microbial flora is balanced, but if a certain species is dominant in that exact sample of saliva you have just introduced with your suckling, that species outgrows the others, then when you reintroduce it into your mouth, you have millions and millions of bacterial cells of the same species there. That can now infect you, even if the original sample resident in your mouth won't have done.

If people drink water in the same way as tea and coffee, ie, get a cup, fill it, drink it, wash up the cup, this isn't a problem. it is the constant suckling which causes health issues

tea and coffee are both more hydrating than water, when you take water in you just have to pee it out.

But apart from anything else, the suckling habit is just disgusting, irritating and inconvenient to everyone around you.

gamerchick · 14/08/2015 12:11

You're sitting in front of a computer aren't you? Look for your own evidence, There's plenty out there.

gamerchick · 14/08/2015 12:13

And a lot more than 'evidence' the frothers could produce to support their humans don't need water crap I would hazard a guess Wink

Feline9 · 14/08/2015 12:14

Ah charis is a germophobe, that explains the extreme anal retentiveness and control freak streak.

Charis1 · 14/08/2015 12:14

That the trouble, isn't it gamerchick, people press search on google, and swallow every word that pops up, who ever it is from, however ignorant, however vested their interest, however little science they know. Don't use google, go to reliable scientific sources.

Cotto · 14/08/2015 12:15

Tea and coffee are diuretics !

You pee them out faster < head desk>

Feline9 · 14/08/2015 12:15

Tea and coffee are NOT more hydrating than water...tea and coffee have a mild diuretic affect that while unlikely to dehydrate you isn't more hydrating than water.

gamerchick · 14/08/2015 12:15

Go ahead.. It obviously means more to you than me. You think we don't need water so prove it.
