This is really scary.

A. It might not be true

B. If they're not known to the Security Services how do you suppose they would know about them?

C. It might not be true.

ILoveCokeZero · 11/08/2015 20:05

This is why we need to secure Calais. We know Isis are coming over by boat, why would they not cross at Calais.

OP posts:
ILoveCokeZero · 11/08/2015 20:09

I hope its not true Far.

I don't think the situation has changed- the police and government security are working constantly on this issue. If it is true then yes it is a scary thought, but as previous poster has pointed out, we do not know the real situation. I would avoid reading this sort of journalism for your own sanity (that's what I have to tell myself to do!).

VikingVolva · 11/08/2015 20:28

I'm not sure Calais is in any way linked to what SKY are reporting here (that people can be radicalised online, anywhere on the planet including in UK). And that low tech lone wolf attacks are very hard to counter.

ILoveCokeZero · 11/08/2015 20:33

Well its the main way to get into the Uk undetected.

OP posts:
Griphook · 11/08/2015 20:50

I don't think Calais is relevant here, I think what they are trying to say is that terrorists are being recruited without even leaving their homes. Additionally rather than a big planned attack it would be one person acting alone.

ILoveCokeZero · 11/08/2015 21:01

Of course Calais is relevant. We have people (who could be ISIS getting into our country).

OP posts:
WidowWadman · 11/08/2015 21:08

The risk of people being radicalised without ever leaving their bed room let alone the country is IMO much higher than that of terrorists coming in via Calais. The rising xenophobia and islamophobia only exacerbates this.

Griphook · 11/08/2015 21:15

But the article that was linked is nothing to do with Calais,
It's about the Internet.
There are more people being radicalised in their bedrooms than on the refugee camps. That's the whole point of the artical.

But as you keep bringing Calais up what would you like 'someone' to do.

ILoveCokeZero · 11/08/2015 21:19

I would like them to be deported Griphook, they are a threat.

OP posts:
anythingforaquietnight · 11/08/2015 21:22

Who do you want deported from where to where, Zero? And by whom?

Timetodrive · 11/08/2015 21:24

In the report today they where leaving for breaks under six weeks and slipping into Syria from Turkey. It would be very difficult to watch all tourists.

WidowWadman · 11/08/2015 21:25

Why do you assume they're not British nationals?

Griphook · 11/08/2015 21:25

Who would you like to be deported?
The economic migrants
The people seeking asylum

How far back from would you like then deported from.

What about home grown potential terriosts? What would you do with them?

Holowiwi · 11/08/2015 21:25

Ugh this thread gives me a headache

ILoveCokeZero · 11/08/2015 21:35

First off they are british in name only.

Secondly, I am not assuming they are foreign.

OP posts:
anythingforaquietnight · 11/08/2015 21:36

Who is "THEY?"

Griphook · 11/08/2015 21:38

No I think it safe to say that the people in Calais are foreign (that was sarky just in case the tome wasn't heard)

ILoveCokeZero · 11/08/2015 21:38

The terrorists.

OP posts:
Griphook · 11/08/2015 21:38

Bleakhouse1879 · 11/08/2015 21:41

What a waste of a thread

anythingforaquietnight · 11/08/2015 21:42

If "THEY" wanted to get into the UK then Calais is the LAST place "they" would try.

Did you know the coastline of the UK including principle islands is 19,491 miles long, all of it unguarded, other than specific crossing points, in particular CALAIS? These terrorist organisations have shit loads of money. If they wanted to get someone in, then buying a boat and crewing it, and landing it somewhere undetected on the 19,000+ miles of unprotected coastline would be a piece of piss.

WidowWadman · 11/08/2015 21:42

What does "in name only" mean? If they have citizenship, they have citizenship, and if they have it by birth then even the home secretary can't remove it no matter how much she wants to

And calls for deportation do nothing to address the risk of radicalisation. How about engaging with people rather than shouting about us vs them and alienating them further/driving them towards those who seek to radicalise them?
