To just not approve of alcohol served on flights?

I just don't see why it's necessary to serve alcohol on flights. Why? People who smoke can't do that....and fair enough...alcohol makes many people act like twats.

OP posts:

YAB the most U of any AIBU ever!! Angry
I LOVE drinking on planes. I hate flying and its the only bit I like. I never act like a twat when I'm drunk at least no more so than when I'm sober
Why should my flights be made even more miserable because OP can't handle her booze?
Ban dickheads on flights and then have some Wine
Smile

Are Knee Defenders not already being banned by quite a few airlines, Penny?

ProjectPerfect · 11/08/2015 17:14

Under 4's offensive?!

I take my Under 4's on planes just to irritate the public. And in business class. Shock

specialsubject · 11/08/2015 17:50

most adults can drink without swilling to a coma. Some can't, but cabin crew are supposed not to serve to a drunk.

someone having a glass or few is not an issue. Someone on the stinky-sticks IS!

BleachEverything · 11/08/2015 17:59

Ha, please get a life.

maninawomansworld · 11/08/2015 18:01

YABU... killjoy!

Why should we all be denied a tipple just because a tiny minority of idiots can't behave.

I like a cheeky glass of wine on a long haul flight!

Murfles · 11/08/2015 18:07

YABVVU OP. I love a few wines on a long haul flight. It's the start of my holidays after all. Believe me at the end of the summer term I'm in dire need of wine. We always pay to upgrade seats so all of our drinks are included in the price. This year the drinks were included in economy as well. I can behave after a few wines and the cabin crew generally stop serving it to those getting out of order in my experience.

Hissy · 11/08/2015 18:11

Twats act like twats. With or without alcohol.

There is no reason to ban alcohol in flight.

Murfles · 11/08/2015 18:12

I will never understand under 4 year olds being allowed on flight unless their parents are moving abroad. I find that more offensive. What kind of person takes a baby on a flight unless it is 100% necessary?

Our holidays were ALWAYS necessary when my kids were small. I had 3 under 5 and a 6 year old btw. I hope I offended you for daring to travel with my children Hmm

BeautifulBatman · 11/08/2015 18:14

BA give it away on med-long haul flights. Pre preggers I really looked forward to a gin and tonic on my flights to the uk from ksa. So yes OP, YABU. I live in a dry country - it's still full of twats. Alcohol is not the problem.

GrumpyOldBiddy2 · 11/08/2015 18:21

No alcohol. No reclining chairs. No smiling. No enjoying yourself. No chatting above a whisper.

You must at all times, sit bolt upright, shoulders back, facing forward, drink tepid tap water and eating raw turnips.

Just finished the list off for you there
OP - hope that helps.

There there Dear. We've noticed you.

Becauseicannes · 11/08/2015 18:27

Oh ffs why are some people so miserable? Anyone can travel, not just people you deem worthy. I think alcohol relaxes more people on flights than makes them angry. A lot of people are afraid of flying.

MorrisZapp · 11/08/2015 18:33

Blimey. Wish I'd had the pleasure of meeting all these friendly, happy drunks. Everybody I know has a horror story of budget airlines and stag parties, myself included. The police met us off the plane as the behaviour had been so awful, but they hid amongst other passengers as they got off. Made me ashamed to be Scottish.

I was baffled by the airline to be honest. The guys were clearly steaming when they got on, having been served endless booze in the airport. On board, they handed round a bottle of Jack Daniels and got much drunker, this was on top of the booze they were being served onboard. The cabin crew looked to be aged about 18 and wholly unequipped to deal with the behaviour. Halfway through the flight the pilot put the seatbelt signs on, to try at least to keep them seated.

Airlines have a duty of care to all their passengers, not just the ones who want booze. It's a shameful part of my culture that many of my fellow scots literally cannot travel in groups or on trains or planes without drinking heavily, regardless of the time of day.

Surely it isn't rocket science to limit alcohol on flights. Everybody deserves to feel safe and calm.

MrsTerryPratchett · 11/08/2015 18:34

My 4 year old has been on about 20 flights, and I have a glass of wine, and I recline my seat. Bwahahahaha.

Weebirdie · 11/08/2015 18:35

I think a lot depends on the airlines a person flies with because Ive never experienced bad behaviour from a fellow passenger due to drunkeness and I fly almost every month.

It calms some peoples nerves and helps them sleep. On a 7-12 hour flight it's useful.
Alcohol does affect others health like smoking does

legalegret · 11/08/2015 18:43

Such a ban would drive me to political action. It's one of my favourite places to drink. Dark long haul flights, weeping at a ridiculous romantic film on my umpteenth wine. Bliss.

cardibach · 11/08/2015 20:19

I would imagine some airlines/package companies and some destinations are more prone to drunks than others. I've never seen any though - not twattish ones, anyway.

Potterwolfie · 11/08/2015 20:22

How about expecting people to drink responsibly when on a flight, rather than banning it altogether? Just because some people have no off switch doesn't mean something should be banned.

Glitteryarse · 11/08/2015 20:24

You'd hate sitting near me Grin

I reclined the seat for my two year old so she could nod off (2 hour flight) then bought a bottle of prosecco. The bottle was gold - it was well smart!

Had a belting holiday !

CatMilkMan · 11/08/2015 20:32

I would rather they ban OP instead of alcohol, get over yourself.

Hulababy · 11/08/2015 20:37

Can't see point in reclining seats for short haul, or for day time flights even long haul. And reclining should be banned for all meal times regardless. Though tbh I can't sleep on planes regardless so can't really see point full stop generally.

Alcohol though - long haul I will always have wine with my meal. You don't really get to drink much even on among haul ime.

And ime cabin crew can call quits on alcohol and stop serving either full stop or to individuals anyway so no one should be having too much. Certainly in the Las Vegas flight we were on the crew stopped serving after a while once they saw a group starting to get a bit too far gone with it.

Hulababy · 11/08/2015 20:39

Budget airlines don't have racking seats on short haul at all.
