Household electoral roll form addressed only to DH

AIBU to feel more than a bit peeved that an electoral registration form for our home from the council was addressed solely to DH - presumably as the man of the house. It's 2015 for fuck's sake. We have a joint mortgage but apparently it's the man's job to let the council know the details of those in the household who are eligible to vote. What if DH worked away or was really bad at keeping up with paperwork and as I don't open his mail would I be excluded as he hadn't replied on my behalf in time? Surely it should be addressed to both householders (as our council tax letters are) or we both get one separately?

Why is it unreasonable for you to rely on your DP to correctly fill in the form and not unreasonable for him to rely on your to fill the form in?

"The occupier" here.

Can I find a reason to grump about that? I'm not just an occupier, I'm a woman in my own right dammit. Hmph.

Boney in our case if I hadn't been standing beside DH when he opened the letter I'd probably have been non the wiser about it as he doesn't deal with any paperwork in the house. It'd probably just be left and forgotten about. Hmm He's amazing at lots of things but paperwork and finances are my domain so it's not unreasonable for me to fill it in for him in our case as then it definitely gets done. In an ideal world though we'd all just be responsible for our own registrations then there'd be no issues.

But they would have sent out more enrolment forms in the various colour codes and eventually would have sent one that said "the occupier" (I know this form experience), and if you area is anything like mine they eventually send round a person.

But I agree that we should be responsible for our own registrations.

Interesting, I'm fairly sure ours was addressed to both of us Confused

Colour codes? You obviously have much prettier paperwork from your council than we do from ours Boney. :) We usually get one reminder and that's it. Never got to the stage that an officer is sent out as I've always sent it back in time but I'd be surprised if my local council does that as they're strapped enough for cash for basic services.

Ours was addressed to The Occupier. DH is first in the list, presumably because he is first in the alphabet.

I did it by phone this year, but in a rush last year I just put it back in the envelope and posted. A few days later I was confused to find it sat on my doormat. I then realised I hadn't folded it back over to show the council address in the window. maybe I shouldn't be trusted to do these things,

Ours came addressed to me. There are 4 adults on the electoral role in this household. I definitely completed the last form on line but you still get a paper document the next time. When completing on-line, the system asks you to place a tick next to the name of the person completing the form so presumably it will come addressed to me next time too.
DH also does not do paperwork and would have left it lying on the kitchen worktop not dealt with if it had been addressed to him.
