To not strip beds in holiday home?

Pteranodon · 07/08/2015 18:33

Arrived at holiday flat to find notes in both bedrooms requesting we strip the beds on leaving.

AIBU to find this cheeky? There's not so much as a spare loo roll laid on, the place isn't that clean & it's of course eye-wateringly expensive as it's August and by the seaside. (£800! For 2 bedrooms, for a week - and they charged us extra for towels!) Our choice, of course, to go ahead and book, but I didn't think I'd be asked to strip the chuffing beds at that price. AIBU?

I always strip the beds, even having to do 4beds it only takes 5minutes. I would be annoyed to be asked though.

As for loo roll I never expect more than a roll on the holder anything else is a bonus. I appreciate washing up liquid and a Boyle of general cleaning potion. I wouldn't expect much else. I always take dishwasher tablets to last the week, spare loo roll, tinfoil and kitchen towel, and just leave what I don't use.

LittleMissStubborn · 07/08/2015 19:02

Boyle?? I meant bottle

Mehitabel6 · 07/08/2015 19:02

It is so quick and easy I would just do it.

WitchofScots · 07/08/2015 19:05

I've never been asked to do it but I usually do. I wouldn't expect to have to though.

Lonecatwithkitten · 07/08/2015 19:06

I'm in too minds about this yes as a guest I have paid cleaning. But I have helped a friend to has holiday cottages 'turn' her properties and we wear marigolds to change the beds because what you find in them is quite frankly disgusting.

HSMMaCM · 07/08/2015 19:08

We had to strip the beds and put the dishwasher on. Didn't take long with a quick clean up. Didn't mind as there was a bottle of prosecco on ice when we arrived.

Sparklingbrook · 07/08/2015 19:08

It will take less time than the time you spent posting on here to have a grumble about it. Grin

Vycount · 07/08/2015 19:10

It is so quick and easy that it's not really a lot of help to the cleaners on the scale of things. What's 1 minute saved per bed as compared to cleaning the premises from top to bottom? A nice gesture, but pretty pointless really.Smile

I look after several holiday apartments in the algarve - we don't ask clients to strip beds, and I actually prefer it if they don't, as the maid can then see if there are any stains that need pre-treating before being washed

WeAllHaveWings · 07/08/2015 19:12

Whenever we stay self catering in a caravan or holiday lodge we always strip beds, make sure bins are empty, do the last washing up by hand/put away/wipe down kitchen surfaces/sinks before we leave.

We run the dishwasher the night before and its only breakfast stuff that needs a quick handwash in the morning, empty bins night before and its only the last bits that you can take in a bag in the car to bins when leaving.

We always take kitchen basics a handful of dishwasher tabs/washing up liquid/tea towels/paper towels/cleaning spray/toilet roll.

Always thought that was part of self catering, unless you are staying somewhere ultra posh or a hotel with cleaning staff that clean during your stay.

Usually the brochure will say if beds are already made on arrival as part of the price (or you pay extra for it).

LittleMissStubborn · 07/08/2015 19:12

I just was the breakfast pots by hand on the last morning, no way is there near enough to run a dishwasher.

Last holiday I packed the car the night before, that really made a difference plus left plenty of time to strip the beds

WitchofScots · 07/08/2015 19:14

We just do it as a gesture, all the beds are stripped and all the dirty bed linen and towels are put together in one bathroom. However that's when we stay at a holiday camp and we know the cleaners are on minimum wage.

hairtoday1 · 07/08/2015 19:15

YANBU

I don't even do my own bed at home!

ClaraM · 07/08/2015 19:16

Place we are staying now requires it. Never seen it before but it doesn't take long. On arrival long list of don'ts which was a bit irritating when there was no internet as advertised and oven needed setting before it would work (not obvious and no instructions)!

Sparklingbrook · 07/08/2015 19:17

I quite like the idea of Airbnb where the owners get to rate the guests as well as the other way around. Smile

Dismalfuckers · 07/08/2015 19:18

I don't do it in case I am horrified by the bedding I've slept in for a week: just don't want to see Grin

Baddz · 07/08/2015 19:40

We went on hols last month and we were requested not only to strip the beds, but to mop the kitchen floor and Hoover before we left!
Not sure what the cleaners had to do once we left tbh.
We won't be going there again!

firesidechat · 07/08/2015 19:41

I always strip the beds even when the owners don't expect it. Habit I suppose and it takes 2 minutes at most.

Baddz · 07/08/2015 19:41

I even emptied all the bins too thought I might as well as I was doing everything else

firesidechat · 07/08/2015 19:45

In fact I might as well come clean. No pun intended.

We (husband and I) empty bins, quick hoover round, wipe down kitchen and clean bathroom.

I'm very well trained and the perfect guest. Smile

firesidechat · 07/08/2015 19:48

The only time we have arrived at a holiday and had to make our own beds was when we rented a villa in Florida.

No way was the place up to acceptable standards, especially for the US and we found out later that he was a con artist and was prosecuted for it.

paxtecum · 07/08/2015 19:51

I would never dream of leaving unwashed breakfast dishes.

WipsGlitter · 07/08/2015 19:52

We're heading to the Lake District and have been asked to strip the beds.

Must remember to add loo roll, washing up liq and tabs to the pile of stuff to bring!! So many times we get there and there's none.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 07/08/2015 19:57

I've always stripped beds and put the sheets and towels in the bath, often this is stayed in the information booklet, I thought this was standard. £800 isn't that eye watering for this time of year ime. I would be cross if it wasn't spotless though.

Sparkling - they all lie on Air BnB thoughWink
