To be annoyed being asked for age ID

For FABRIC CLEANER
the sales assistant really tried to deny me fabric cleaner because I didn't have ID. I'm 26yrs old he said I could just be saying that wtf why would I lie it's not alcohol
I am a young looking 26 but I do not look like a teenager, was I being unreasonable to kick up a fuss?
The manager gave it to me the sales assistant refused.

It has become ridiculous and annoying. I'm 35 and I always get asked for ID in Marks and Spencer.

But on the bright side, the previous national scandal of teenagers buying St Michael branded Lambrini and getting wrecked in agreeable suburban shopping centres is now completely under control

I was once asked for ID when buying toddler cutlery, which I found quite amusing. Also had the tesco self service machine flag up my non-alcoholic cider - was slightly gutted that the assistant laughed & then said "you're clearly over 25 anyway" (I was 29).

My aunts late husband was once asked for ID purchasing wine - he was 78!

I believe Morrisons is notorious for doing things like that. So ridiculous. There can be no excuse.

They appear to want to make buying booze as difficult as possible as a moral mission.

They could always stop selling it, of course. No one is forcing them to hold an off license, and they could just run a dry supermarket. There are parts of the country where there are no off-licenses because of complex land agreements and special provisions in the Leasehold Reform Act, and property prices are very high there, relative to even a couple of streets away. Shops survive, just, without being able to sell booze. Perhaps Morrisons could make a radical step?

It's also entirely ageist as the most recent spate of fecking eggings was from cars so I doubt they were under 18 Hmm

DiscoMoo · 09/08/2015 12:15

Re the lemons - I did ask why and the till assistant didn't know. I didn't ask to see the manager as I was in a rush and wasn't that concerned - just thought it amusing. Walked away shaking my head. It was in an Asda in a Welsh valleys town.

I remember being ID'd in Waitrose. I had a small trolley full of stuff as I was having guests for the evening .... think lots of poncy expensive stuff and I also had a £10+ bottle of wine.

They refused me the wine. I had a manager down and produced a receipt to show they'd sold me wine the week before.... (same credit card number). Shop was close to shutting for the day. I left with nothing!!!

This was before the days of think 25 as well. Madness.
