To ask how often you get your windows cleaned?

Moved to our house 2.5 years ago, one wedding and 2 babies later I still haven't got round to engaging a window cleaner.
DH has done it once I think, I've cleaned them a little from what I can reach from the inside. They don't look very dirty at all considering!

However I would like to engage a window cleaner but money is tight. Can you just ask them to come round as a one off? I was thinking they probably only need doing several times a year. My parents get theirs done once every 6 weeks but they have lots of trees around their house and are forever getting bird poo on their windows. I don't think we've ever had any! Thoughts?

Should have said, I do my own. I don't know anyone around here who doesn't, although the windows in our stairwell are done by the property management company. (Also weekly, inside and out.)

Bostonpj · 01/08/2015 17:14

We've been here 5 years and had them done for the first time yesterday. It has made a huge difference, especially to the absolutely filthy conservatory on the back of the house. We have had building work done so that hasnt helped. We've agreed to every 5-6 weeks and will see how we get on but that will only be the front and sides, not the conservatory as we'd need to be in to open the gate and it's likely we'll both be at work. £12 all in.

We could have just stuck to the one off clean.

x2boys · 01/08/2015 17:28

just hired a window cleaner yesterday feel so grown up !so it will be every two weeks.

snickers251 · 01/08/2015 17:32

When I remember to text the window cleaner so every few months when they start looking a bit grotty

He does em for £15 if we have em done every month but they don't really need it that often so we pay £20 each time (10 windows and a back door)

My old house, twice in 5 years Confused

PurpleSwift · 01/08/2015 17:32

I've done the downstairs outside windows myself about 4 times in 2.5 years. That's it. Getting the whole house done soon as we're moving out and my LL had building work done and the windows are a state

mrsmeerkat · 01/08/2015 17:34

Every two months. I pay 30 euro for inside and out and I do the inside and out of a patio door myself once a week as it gets grubby from the toddler.

SundayBea · 02/08/2015 09:04

Thanks all for your replies. Nice to hear that we're not in the minority when it comes to window cleaning laxness!
I will see if I can find someone local to do them as a one off or perhaps persuade DH to do it Grin

Currently looking for a window cleaner, have been quoted between 25-75 for a three bed semi! Haven't had them cleaned for a year and now notice in the sun they do need cleaning. Id say if money is right get them done in summer time only.

Dowser · 02/08/2015 09:31

Every two weeks. It's £2. Single storey. 5 windows.

TaylorSwiftMakesMyShitItch · 02/08/2015 09:37

Every 6 weeks. Alternates between whole house (£36) or just front (£12). We live in the South East, front of house is two large bay windows and a panel above the door, whole house adds on another 13 windows.

TaylorSwiftMakesMyShitItch · 02/08/2015 09:39

Ours costs a bit because the house is a semi-detached town house spread over 4 floors and is a nightmare to access.

LosingTheWillToSkate · 02/08/2015 09:42

Once a fortnight, costs a fiver. He does the door detailing and frames too as DH makes him a brew.

Honestly, he was off having an operation for 6 weeks and by 3 weeks in the windows needed cleaning.

People who don't clean them at all, or a couple of times a year - sorry but that's fucking rank. Rain doesn't clean windows. If rain held any sort of cleaning properties then we'd never need to clean our cars.

redshoeblueshoe · 02/08/2015 09:59

I think it really makes a difference where you live. My DM lived on the flight path of a large airport and if it wasn't done every 2 weeks you could tell. Mine need doing so if I can be bothered they might get done this week. or if I can't be arsed I'll have to tell DH to do it

MadamArcatiAgain · 02/08/2015 10:45

when it rains Wink

Finola1step · 02/08/2015 10:49

Really depends where you live. My mum is in central London so weekly.

ohtheholidays · 02/08/2015 10:50

Every 4 weeks all inside and outside of windows.DH does them all.

I clean the small glass panels on the front door and the glass panel on the back door inside and out twice a week.

ScorpioMermaid · 02/08/2015 10:57

Ours get done every 4 weeks and it's a fiver for the whole lot. weve got a bay window, 2 doors, french doors and 6 other windows. he can't reach the 2 velux in the loft so dh does them.

HazelBite · 02/08/2015 10:58

Every month £25 (Its a big house with loads of windows)

ScorpioMermaid · 02/08/2015 11:02

We do the insides of the bathroom, velux, 2 x kitchen, front door, our room about monthly and the side door, french doors and bay every couple of days cos the dog Rubs her nose on them Grin and the 2 other kids bedrooms get done every couple of days too Smile

Wolpertinger · 02/08/2015 11:04

Never. 8 years so far, not felt the need.

cpic · 02/08/2015 11:07

Every 8 weeks, £10 a go.

Chunkymonkey79 · 02/08/2015 11:09

Not once in three years.Grin

Finally found a window cleaner so now fortnightly!

SquareStarfish · 02/08/2015 11:18

Lived here 5 years and never cleaned them.

Replaced them 2 years ago instead Grin

They are on my list of jobs that needs doing and has been for months

ohidoliketobe · 02/08/2015 11:18

Every 3-4 weeks. Pay 9 that's whole house- front (2x 4 window bays, 1 standard window and the front door and surround), side (3 windows) and back (1 set french doors and 3 windows). 9 pounds with the extending hose thingy. We're quite exposed and not far from the coast so winsows get noticabley dirty.

purplewoofer · 02/08/2015 13:09

Lived here for 6 years. I think I ran the pressure washer over them once, other than that when it rains. The inside gets dog nose art and sticky toffee finger prints so it sometimes gets cleaned with a baby wipe....
