To ask how often you get your windows cleaned?

Moved to our house 2.5 years ago, one wedding and 2 babies later I still haven't got round to engaging a window cleaner.
DH has done it once I think, I've cleaned them a little from what I can reach from the inside. They don't look very dirty at all considering!

However I would like to engage a window cleaner but money is tight. Can you just ask them to come round as a one off? I was thinking they probably only need doing several times a year. My parents get theirs done once every 6 weeks but they have lots of trees around their house and are forever getting bird poo on their windows. I don't think we've ever had any! Thoughts?

Every 18 months or so. I only do the insides two or three times a year. You get some satisfaction if they were actually dirty before you cleaned!

Lovehorror · 01/08/2015 12:50

I get mine done every 2 weeks because I live near a river and it's mostly always windy, the windows always get sort of gritty.

HearTheThunderRoar · 01/08/2015 12:54

Where on earth do people find the time, money or inclination to clean their window fortnightly?!

In almost a decade we have lived here, I think mine have been done two or three times by the PIL when they have came down to stay.

Sparrowlegs248 · 01/08/2015 12:57

Never. We've been here 5 years. I clean the insides every few weeks months (kitchen much more often) and the downstairs outsides a few times through the summer.

Baddz · 01/08/2015 12:58

Every 2 months.

Baddz · 01/08/2015 12:59

I do the insides about twice a year.

GemmaTeller · 01/08/2015 12:59

Inside and out about twice a year.

Bungalow and I do them myself

The5DayChicken · 01/08/2015 13:02

I'm supposed to clean them? Hmm

TealCarpet · 01/08/2015 13:05

Not done them yet in our new house (been here a year) they look fine. It is on our to-do list though.

At our last house we went over 4 years before having them done, they did look clean but not noticable enough to make paying for them to be done regularly worth it IMO. Really surprised at those who have them done fortnightly, how do they get so dirty?!

I clean the insides a couple of times a year.

bettyberry · 01/08/2015 13:07

Used to have a window cleaner. He did mine and neighbours. Neighbours turned into arses (ongoing issues) and he stopped cleaning mine Hmm I've asked why and he ignores me. Odd. I haven't actually done them in months because Im having new ones fitted! Blush

But now I have to because DS decided to chuck his dinner out of his bedroom window... yeah. Don't ask.

bettyberry · 01/08/2015 13:11

TealCarpet lived on a busy road. They get grubby as hell. On my now super quiet, woodland street I mostly have to clean the odd kamikaze bird impact marks and poop.

OwlOffshore · 01/08/2015 13:14

Mine's £25 (10 windows, 3 doors) so I only have them done every 4 months. They seem fine to me! Only thing is that I have to remember to text the window cleaner at the beginning of the month I want them done. Otherwise he forgets as most people are fortnightly/monthly.

MyPelvicFloorTrainsItself · 01/08/2015 13:16

Never. They are made of glass and I can see through them perfectly fine.

Getthewonderwebout · 01/08/2015 13:17

I've never had a window cleaner! I do insides and out probably once every 6 weeks.

Leggytadpole · 01/08/2015 13:25

I do my own about twice a year Blush

I'd prefer a window cleaner to come monthly but they can't access the back of my terrace house so I'd effectively be paying for them to clean the outside of one upstairs window as I can do the downstairs myself. I've often thought about getting one of those telescopic poles to do the upstairs myself. Anyone tried them?

Every other week, £4 for front and back, so six windows plus porch.

Mine get cleaned when my arthritis eases up a bit. But it's probably every two years outside. If any one mentions it I offer them a chamois leather sandwich or tell them to bugger off. It's no problem really.

somewheresomehow · 01/08/2015 14:18

when either DH or me get round to it
our bedroom only when DH decides to pressure wash the plastic facing

Fairylea · 01/08/2015 14:21

Errmmm never. Well not professionally anyway.

Been here 5 years and not done the outsides upstairs at all.

Every 4 months or so I do the insides and the outside of the downstairs ones.

Monthly.

FloppyRagdoll · 01/08/2015 17:02

Weekly, inside and out. I rent a flat in Germany and it's written into my rental agreement. (If I am in a rush, I sometimes skip the balcony door, kidding myself that it isn't really a "window".) I only have four windows, though, in addition to aforementioned balcony door. They are also easy to clean as they swing open.

Some of my neighbours look at me askance as I tend to clean the windows on my day off during the week - the neighbours, without exception, clean them between the hours of 7am and 9am on a Saturday. Rebel that I am.
