to boycott Amazon for hiring Jeremy Clarkson

Top Gear spent YEARS promoting dangerous, antisocial attitudes.
Cars AREN'T toys. When they are misused, people can get KILLED.
It seemed wrong that the BBC seemed to promote this idea that motorists are "above the law" with no concern for the dangers in residential areas caused (parents afraid to let their kids play out); wrong to promote the attitude that the best car, driver, driving is the FASTEST with no concern for the young drivers who kill themselves (and others) by driving too fast.

How, why did the BBC get away with it for so long?

Why has AMAZON now given Clarkson a new home and, no doubt, an opportunity to enrich himself still further while promoting attitudes that will surely cost lives?

Of all the reasons to dislike JC you have gone with anti social behaviour because he drives fast cars?

Of all the reasons to boycott Amazon you have gone with 'hiring JC'

Do what you like, don't suppose Amazon will give a shiny shit though...

Sparklingbrook · 30/07/2015 18:45

It's not the first thread OP has started about TG. It seems it's an annual event.

Cathulhu · 30/07/2015 18:54

I love Top Gear and Clarkson I'm afraid and Amazon prime just got themselves a new customer.

The maddening ting about JC is that he is capable of producing high quality television for a discerning audience - just get him away from sodding cars. Remember his programme about the raid on St Nazaire?

fancyanotherfez · 30/07/2015 19:21

YABU to think Amazon are worse for hiring JC than for being tax dodgers. I personally hope the show is a failure just because he's such an arrogant git. I think him and his juvenile cronies need the BBC guidelines to keep them vaguely in control. Without them, they are just going to be 3 ridiculous middle aged men being more prattish than ever, but on a service not as good as Netflix! I don'tlike Top Gear and have llittle interest in cars, and its boring enough listening the Chris Evans bore on about cars on the radio, so maybe I'm not their target audience!

Tillli · 30/07/2015 19:23

Im looking forward to it. Love the three of them.

frankieboy23 · 30/07/2015 20:05

And today's actual picture.....

to boycott Amazon for hiring Jeremy Clarkson
WanderWomble · 30/07/2015 20:22

Films like the Fast and the Furious are more to blame for street racing/boy racer behaviour than Top Gear is in my opinion. You didn't see so much of it until after that film came out. (Ditto (badly) modified cars.)

As for cars not being toys, my second car is a toy. It's a track car and my main purpose in driving it is to have fun.

Marylou2 · 30/07/2015 20:29

A new customer for Amazon Prime here. DH and DD are ecstatic that Jezza and the gang are back.

TendonQueen · 30/07/2015 20:38

It's not their attitude to driving so much as their attitude to everything else I dislike, ie it's fine to be a racist, sexist bully as long you're famous and people like watching your TV show, because then you'll be protected from the consequences of your behaviour. However, them going to Amazon is actually the ideal for me as then people who like their antics can pay to see them, but licence fee payers aren't having to do so.

Sparklingbrook · 30/07/2015 20:42

I think it's great. All the moaners don't have to pay and watch it. Smile

11Unicorn11 · 01/08/2015 20:35

I was hoping that BBC would reinstate them after a cooling off period. They're brilliantly entertaining and I don't think they make the slightest bit of difference to how people drive. Looks like I'll need to get an amazon viewing account!

tarashill · 01/08/2015 20:48

I don't like him but the BBC should get their priorities right. What JC did was wrong but far far worse things have gone on in the BBC which they turned a blind eye to. Why didn't they investigate Jimmy Saville when it was apparent what he was up to. Disgusting organisation.

Rainbunny · 01/08/2015 21:14

Presumably you've been boycotting the BBC for years in protest over TG then?

tarashill · 01/08/2015 21:21

I never watch the BBC.

Rainbunny · 01/08/2015 21:43

Tara - I was referring to the OP as she wishes to boycott Amazon over purchasing rights for TG. Sorry for any confusion.

HerRoyalNotness · 01/08/2015 21:50

Tell me about this Amazon TV thingy, how much is it, and how do I get it?

Will have to see if we can shoe horn it into the budget. Shame netflix didn't get them, but there you go
