To think Cara Delevingne was really quite rude in this interview?

Okay so it's a DM link (sorry - I know for that alone I'm BU!).

But AIBU to think Cara Delevingne was really quite rude in this interview?

I was quite shocked really. She's clearly irritated because they got her name wrong, but to pass her rudeness off as 'British humour' is doing a real disservice to us Brits.

It wasn't humour, she comes across as very 'entitled' in MN speak and as if the interviewers are beneath her.

It's difficult to say without seeing what led up to that bit, but from that short clip of the end none of them came across well IMO.

OttiliaVonBCup · 29/07/2015 23:28

They were incredibly rude to her.
She was ok, all thing considered.

tvlover1234 · 29/07/2015 23:28

Newsreaders were definitely rude

WhyStannisWhy · 29/07/2015 23:28

She was brill. My hero Grin no one throws shade like her.

GraysAnalogy · 29/07/2015 23:29

I don't like her but she handled it better than I would have done. That 'carla' quip was clearly pre-planned as well.

LitreOfTea · 29/07/2015 23:31

Well, the anchors asked stupid questions, but she didn't handle it 'well'.

So they patronised her? Big deal. Just set them straight politely. Tell them she'd read the book of course, as well as his other books (name them) and say it reminded her of such and such an other book.

Her use of sarcasm was excessive. Once, perhaps? but I think she gave three sarcastic replies.

I'm not English though. So maybe I don't understand British humour either! or maybe she's a bit of a brat I thought she could have handled it better.
Actors often disappoint when the dialogue isn't scripted for them though!

Ilovetorrentialrain · 29/07/2015 23:32

IMO Cara was being very dry and sarcastic, which could have been an attempt at humour to address the inane questions she was being asked... it just didn't work too well for that interview. Maybe she is inexperienced at interviews? I got the impression a very bubbly, overly animated and excited guest is the norm for that particular show and the presenters coped badly, and quite rudely, with done one who's persona was quite different.

CelestialGreen · 29/07/2015 23:32

Agreed their later responses were not good at all. But she is the one who started the car crash IMHO.

I thought she was rude and the 'have you read the book' was ill judged but they were just going for light entertainment type banter.

No need for her to get on her high horse about them insulting her 'art' - she's hardly Laurence bloomin Olivier!

Do you not think her being slated by the hosts afterwards was even more unprofessional than her behaviour, OP?

Anotheronebitthedust · 29/07/2015 23:35

Bit of both tbh - piperchapstick, you'd be surprised about how many actors don't read the original versions of the adaptations they're starring in, either because 'they want to concentrate on scriptwriters vision and not add different interpretations' or because they just can't be bothered! I'm always surprised, for example, that hardly any of the GOT cast have actually read all the books.

So, while she may have thought it was a stupid question, there's still no reason to show it. Same with the other question, when they asked if she was like the character she played - yeah it's not exactly award-winning journalism but it's a fairly innocuous question. But again she went for a sarcastic 'No I fucking hate her.'

While I think it's refreshing to show a bit of personality, there's a difference between a little bit of sarcasm and just being rude. Like the interviewer said, she's paid a lot to be in these films, and promoting it is a key part of that. It probably isn't any actors' favourite part of their job but you can be polite for 5 minutes ffs! People do a lot more for a lot less.

On the other hand, getting her name wrong was ridiculous, that's journalism 101, and the way they continued slating her after the interview finished was incredibly unprofessional.

CelestialGreen · 29/07/2015 23:36

Agreed litre - it was the multiple sarcastic replies that seemed so odd. And it wasn't funny. She didn't handle it well.

Yes, you've hit the nail on the head AnotherOne.

The presenter who initially called her by the wrong name was the one who cut the interview short and then instigated the slagging off afterwards. I wonder what that was all about.

LitreOfTea · 29/07/2015 23:40

I agree that the anchors were unprofessional. But who the hell are they? Like, three Eamonn HOlmes, not even that! this is their most famous moment!

Cara was the one promoting her film, and I saw the whole interview and thought that it would have been more professional to mask her irritation with the stupid questions. so, they patronised her? When people patronise me, I let them know (in no rush) if they're smart enough to figure it out, that they underestimated me.

ethelb · 29/07/2015 23:43

If she was a man she would have been lauded as a genius maverick and been fighting off the offers for 'indie' producer/director rules for refusing to conform to Hollywood norms. Alas, she has a vagina.

AnnoyedParent22 · 29/07/2015 23:48

I think she's an annoying, over exposed brat.

That's all.

OttiliaVonBCup · 29/07/2015 23:52

They kept going on about how busy she was.
I wonder if there was something more to it, was she late for her bit, or maybe cancelled before.
They were still unprofessional bullies though.

AuntyMag10 · 29/07/2015 23:56

She sounds like a man, really gruff and not at all what I thought she would sound like.

CelestialGreen · 30/07/2015 00:04

Hmm Ottilia yes, maybe they were directed comments about lateness. And there was more to it!

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 30/07/2015 00:04

In her defence they got off on the wrong foot getting her name wrong and asked questions as though they expected her to be an airhead. They didn't get her humour and were rude about her after she was off the air.

screenjunkie · 30/07/2015 00:12

So they patronised her? Big deal. Just set them straight politely. Tell them she'd read the book of course, as well as his other books (name them) and say it reminded her of such and such an other book.

Are you a publicist?

LitreOfTea · 30/07/2015 00:13

em, no, just a person who thinks there's more than one way to skin a cat.

HuftysTrain · 30/07/2015 00:17

Have people watched the whole 4 mins on YouTube? There was clearly tension on both sides from the start.

They were very unprofessional, crass questioning, false-humour and appalling to bitch about a guest afterwards while she is probably still able to hear them on her end. Tangible dislike from the get-go.

BUT...she came across as a surly teenager from her very first answer. Full of attitude and too cool for school. I fail to see what's to be lauded there. She was bored and thought it beneath her. I imagine she's hard work.

onthering · 30/07/2015 00:17

But she is the one who started the car crash IMHO.

The car crash started when they got her name wrong. That's basic interviewing skills (assuming it was a mistake). Much like its basic manners.

HuftysTrain · 30/07/2015 00:19

Also, people referring to her humour? Did she crack a joke? I didn't hear her say anything funny. Was it where she said she hated her character? Was that funny? It was childish sarcasm, hardly Oscar Wilde.
