My cousin used to shout 'You're nothing but a pack of cards' to anyone who annoyed her from about the age of 4. Even now( she's in her 20s) no one knows where it came from or what it really means!

If you were being a silly bobble maybe it was justified. I wouldn't be angry about it, just confused as to where they came up with such an insult.

KindergartenKop · 29/07/2015 21:12

It appears IABASB!

Jeez it must be laugh-a-minute in your house Kindergarten Hmm

Psycobabble · 29/07/2015 21:14

You go from bobble to dropping the c bomb .... Well that escalated quickly !!

I think it's perfectly normal and also cute !

Stop been such a bobble about it

DieDeutschLehrerin · 29/07/2015 21:14

My 3 year old does things like this all the time. I have been a "pidget"(!), "bonker", "chinch" and been told to "pack my bags and go to school" amongst other things. I know what you mean about the attitude - it's not nice but it's a phase. He's angry and he doesn't know how to express it properly. It will pass because he will learn. Pick him up on the crossness and attitude but don't get too hung up on the words. He's hoping to make you as cross as he feels. You have to be calm and try and difuse it.

Flisspaps · 29/07/2015 21:15

In that case I'd try hard not to piss myself laughing at him

Salmotrutta · 29/07/2015 21:16

I would take the view OP that it's far better for him to say someone is a silly bobble than for him to be calling them by actual swear words.

I'm sure he will grow out of it.

If it offends you that much just tell him it's not nice to tell people they are silly - bobble or otherwise Wink

KindergartenKop · 29/07/2015 21:16

Bluebananas, I am a kindergarten kop after all! Gotta keep a tight ship!

MummaV - I think the pack of cards thing is from Alice in Wonderland isn't it? Alice shouts it at the courtiers/Queens at some point.

OP I know what you mean when children are trying to be insulting and say something like that with great rage behind it, but it's quite normal and also funny really. Maybe focus on reminding him to use a kind voice /not shouting irrespective of what phrase he's using.

SaintEyning · 29/07/2015 21:20

DS (5) has just recently taken to saying, "oh, bonkers" in precisely the same tone as I or DP might say, "oh bollocks". I have also adopted this phrase and use it at work with glee. He also calls me a 'ninkynonk' which sounds like the thing off ITNG but is uttered in the tone of 'idiot'!

cuntycowfacemonkey · 29/07/2015 21:21

My DS shouted "You're a terrible parent" at the park the other day and flounced off across the field. I would definatly have preferred silly bobble.

BackforGood · 29/07/2015 21:21

Yup.
YABVU to tell a 3 yr old off for that. All 3 yr olds experi ent with words, phrases, expressions, intonation, etc.
bobble is a lovley "insult". I might adopt it myself.

helenahandbag · 29/07/2015 21:21

3yo children don't understand the concept of being disrespectful! He is obviously angry or frustrated and needs to know that it's okay to feel his feelings. He isn't swearing, he's just trying to express himself.

Don't be such a silly bobble, OP.

Loula117 · 29/07/2015 21:22

Could a 'black stub' be a 'bastard'? I remember my DS at about 4 yelling 'oh BUCKET!' when I overtook him in a scooter race...think he may have misquoted someone Blush

CandOdad · 29/07/2015 21:22

Wondering if "bonkers" may be from a cartoon since my seven year old says "oh bonkers" too.

My mum told me to say "plums" when I was little and was peeved.

blackrabbitwhiterabbit · 29/07/2015 21:30

Whilst it does sound funny, I think the kid was being rude. If i had called my mum a "silly" anything i would have got it!

TheCunnyFunt · 29/07/2015 21:31

I love silly bobble :o that's brilliant!

MummaV 'you're nothing but a pack of cards' is from Alice in Wonderland.

Lelania · 29/07/2015 21:33

When my younger sister was 4 she called mum a whore! She obviously didn't know what it meant. God knows where she heard it. It was my mum said she had to put her toys away.

PinguForPresident · 29/07/2015 21:41

I think it's cute. My kids come out with "silly sausage" and "giddy kipper" . It's not like they're calling me or anyone else a fucker, is it?

KindergartenKop · 29/07/2015 21:42

The other day ds said that his teddies were 'buggering'. When we asked him what he meant he said they were fighting. I don't use the word buggering so I have no idea where he got that from. I think he made it up!

Definitely Alice in Wonderland.

I love Bobble! That's a brilliant name without being offensive.

MummaV · 29/07/2015 21:56

Ahhh yes. I never put the two together! Just asked her and she's never read it or seen it so no idea where she got it from at the time!

MrsGentlyBenevolent · 29/07/2015 22:01

I would laugh. I'm laughing right now in fact Grin. Reminds me of when I was little, every time my sister got mad, I called something along the lines if 'silly billy poopy pants'. It either made her laugh or made her madder. I still do to this day if she winds me up enough, pretty much to the same effect (might not start shouting at strangers in the park, not unless I want a comfy hospital bed anyway). It's just a kid thing, unless you'd rather them be shouting cunt or twat, for better effect?

EatDessertFirst · 29/07/2015 22:12

One of my cats is called Bobble.

unhelpful and pointless
