Meh, doesn't bother me at all, I'm not that fussy.

Public forum and all that, each to their own.

As long as the post is readable and I don't have to decipher any mad spellings I'm happy.

Hi girls, or hi mummies, or 'we mummies' just tells me straight away it's a man.

Oh yes 'Hello mummies' and that's me hiding the thread pronto.

If men are going to start a post 'Hello Ladies' they need to be excluded IMO. Nobody speaks like that, and if there's so many man on here 'Hello Ladies' is surely incorrect?

Ime the 'Hi Mummies' posts are normally started by women trying to promote their blogs.

I don't really notice.

I immediately think it's a man. Or a Forever Living distributor

This, in a nutshell.

And if someone addressed a group, of which I was a member, in such a way in real life I would immediately rise to my feet and smite him dead. Stone dead. Or her. She'd be a goner too. Whatever follows 'Hi Ladies' is NEVER going to end well.

It's usually paired with a 'real' name sign off eg:
Thanks for reading,
Helen x

Every time I see it, it makes me wonder if the op is as they hope to appear. It makes me think they're a journalist or a man wanting to be pally and womanly.

Hi ladies tells me just one thing. They don't habitually loiter on mumsnet. The post then makes me decide between newbie with genuine problem / troll. So yes I do probably look a bit like ^^

I immediately think it's a man.

A man...?! Gasp! Swoon!

What TheOddity said ^^

I start from a 50-50 might be a troll, might just be new to mumsnet stance (there are people for whom "Hello Ladies" is simply a polite greeting).

I tend to go cautiously. There was one earlier today from a woman who, as the thread unfolded, came across as genuine and honestly wanting helpful advice. Would have been really crap to reply with "We don't call each other ladies here, hun".

Exception being FWR - if someone starts a thread there with Dear Ladies they are guaranteed to be a troll.

In my head I hear it as "laydeez" - and treat it the same as if someone walked into a pub and said it

bumbleymummy · 28/07/2015 15:26

Nope. Doesn't bother me. Can't get worked up about it.

Actually I don't think we faint en masse at the sight of a man Mamushka Grin - but a patronising fuckwit of a man who starts his post in a way that gets backs up before he's even spouted whatever nonsense is sure to follow - that just lights my blue touchpaper!

Report
Goshthatsspicy · 28/07/2015 15:29

I don't mind.
I always give a thread a chance!

I sometimes start with "hello ladies". Had no idea it can be offending?!
Can't even understand why exactly it is a problem.
I think whatever way I start a thread some miserable sod will not be happy.

Report
kissmaass · 28/07/2015 15:31

I think 'Yo - you bag of fucking cunts' is probably the way forward.

Report
Sparklingbrook · 28/07/2015 15:31

There's no need to announce your arrival on a thread, ever. Confused

I prefer vipers.
Sooooooo not a lady!!

Report
Fluffycloudland77 · 28/07/2015 15:37

I usually think it's someone not used to man and their trying to be polite.

mn, not man.

Report
Sparklingbrook · 28/07/2015 15:41

Um, I am not sure wtfih, I suppose a 'Hi all' is ok. It's always good to put some detail in the header though and go on from there.

Report
hiddenhome · 28/07/2015 15:42

It's usually started by a bloke Hmm
