AIBU?
To ask about Pet Berevement Cards
RachelRagged · 25/07/2015 16:06
Have a friend (A) and friend (B),,
Friend A has a lot of animals, some indoor, some caged and a few ferel cats outside to keep mice down. Sadly one of A's cats died on Thursday. She is distraught, which is expected as A is a major animal lover . I phoned her, said I was so sorry to hear and that was that.
Friend B just text me to say she was going to visit friend A later today and had bought a sympathy card for the loss of her cat and she had put my name on it as well, is that alright ? Well it was alright, sort of . I have never come across these , have any of you ? and would you send one ?

They do exist. Have only ever received them from the vet when they're aware of the death of a pet (eg have been treating them through the illness) Don't really see me sending one myself though.
If your friend is very upset then it's a kind thing to do. Don't over think it.

I gave one to a friend but it wasn't a specific pet one, I just added it to a "sorry for your loss" card. She was a woman who lived alone with her dog she'd had his entire life. She was absolutely distraught when he passed so I got her a card to let her know that we were thinking of her and understood that it was a painful thing.
Some people don't understand the loss of a pet and think it's not a big deal. If something happened to one of my dogs I'd be useless for days. I shudder to think of it :(

When my much loved cat died I was distraught - a card from the vet was a lovely thought and I really appreciated it. I'm not sure if any card needs to be a pet specific one, but it's a lovely thought. I grieved for that wee cat more than I have done for any human and I appreciated the acknowledgment that it was a painful time.

I'm glad that you're glad RachelRagged.
My cat was pottering about in the street today while I was outside but not particularly close to him so he didn't look like he was mine.
All right, I take him for a walk round the block every day because he was an indoor cat before I adopted him and would get mown down if I wasn't with him. I lurk about like a mad cat lady/burglar's look out while he explores every single sodding basement.
I am aware I'm becoming known as a local eccentric.
A girl of about 10 tempted him over. He's very pretty and a shameless flirt and went to her for a stroke. Her mum said: 'Be careful honey, because he's very ancient.'
She was being nice. She didn't want her DD to accidentally hurt him. But it made me feel quite sad.
He is tougher than he looks btw and the vet said his heart and kidneys are strong. That little check up, plus vaccinations and tooth extraction under general anaesthetic cost me about £500. Ouch. He's worth it though.
