to feel a bit sad for the grumpy hipsters on holiday

We're in a very naice holiday town in the south west. Most holiday makers seem to be pretty happy to be here and are pleasant; the walkers say hello, the posh people off the massive boats seem quite cheery, the young harassed families all seem grateful for a smile, but my god, the London hipsters are so bloody miserable...

Everyone else manages a hello, or holds gates open, but the folk with asemetrical hair seem intent on scowling at everyone.

I'm not saying you should talk to people on holiday but AIBU to think that when you are on holiday, you should at least try not to be so bloody miserable?

Real Live London Hipsters here in Cornwall. I don't think I've ever seen a proper one on the flesh. The Kernow Hipster is alive and well in our local seaside University town, with a bit of a maritime twist - scruffier, artfully wayward salt-crusted hair and ironic weathered beanie ( yes, I'm looking at you son). But I'm guessing ours are just a watered down version of the real thing too.

Which SW town are you in Father? I've got to leave to homestead and venture into our nearest and not-so-naice town to get some shoddy boots reheeled. I am happy to travel to see a proper Shoreditch Hipster. Not much changes round these parts

I have asymmetrical hair - does it make me a hipster or something??

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 25/07/2015 11:57

This Italian high jumper has an asymmetric beard - what's that all about?

I agree about naice, its sounding mumsy to me now.

I reckon they're locals too. We were down that way at half time and there were more beards than in London. I can't believe theyd all go on holiday, without kids at half term.

Surely the hipster beard thing is over now isn't it? a few of the school dads have got them now and most of the middle aged men in my office. Is asymmetrical beard the next thing?

Salmotrutta · 25/07/2015 12:27

Are penny farthings on trend then??

I am such a country mouse! Sad

Salmotrutta · 25/07/2015 12:28

I might have the kids old trike in the shed.

stareatthetvscreen · 25/07/2015 12:30

where do you buy/source penny farthings???

pedlars

obvs

doh

HoneyDragon · 25/07/2015 13:02

I have a trike and asymmetric hair cut.

Have I come out in Hipster and not noticed? Confused

HoneyDragon · 25/07/2015 13:03

I wear flares too.

Some are courdroy.

Oh

Fuck.

(That actually reads like the Poem of the Unwitting Hipster)

MarshaBrady · 25/07/2015 13:05

They've probably moved there and feel grumpy.

CruCru · 25/07/2015 14:35

Hmm. I live on the west of the Isle of Wight and haven't seen any hipsters yet. Lots of yachties and hearty mums with kids.

swallowed · 25/07/2015 14:51

I'm a bit worried about the Joules body warmer thing. Are they outre?

Just to flesh that out a bit, I'm not going for hipster obvs, but I was hoping to come somewhere close to "busy yet stylish mum with hobbies".

Am I?

FatherHenderson · 25/07/2015 18:29

I had to retire my Joules body warmer because I was looking suspiciously like Beth in Tamara Drewe. And I was under 40.

We saw a hipster today who was rigging up a Lazer dinghy. But he was quite cheery.

Not quite hipsters, but I like the pics of goths at the seaside.

Shockers · 26/07/2015 00:30

DS1 leans toward the hipster. He prefers to walk in his pointy shoes, rather than take to a Penny Farthing though.

I can confirm that he is a miserable fecker.

stareatthetvscreen · 26/07/2015 00:38

that'll be the shoes shockers

elephantoverthehill · 26/07/2015 00:46

I am on the Isle of Wight, mentioned up thread. What is a hipster?

CadleCrap · 26/07/2015 01:30

It's the glasses that get me.

Are there female versions to spot and write down in my 'I-SPY' book? Like CruCru I am just seeing jolly Mums making the best of the weather with little ones in wellies and Boden waterproofs.
