AIBU?

That this woman was insulting my housekeeping skills.

I recently had a bit of a party for my DHs birthday. Just a few round for snacks and drinks. My DHs brother brought his new girlfriend, who I'd never met before. She seemed nice enough and was quite friendly. However later in the evening I went into the kitchen and I was shocked to see her with a scouring pad with ajax cleaner on rubbing down my cupboards. How bizarre I thought. Apart from the fact they didn't need cleaning, who would do that. Aibu that this is weird?

She wasn't drinking much. Later on in the evening she was sat with a cup of tea.

She was 'just wiping down your worktops' too?!

This is hilarious.

Send her round to mine, I won't be offended at all.

Also howling at your 'How bizarre, I thought' comment, too.

I bet she has partaken in something that makes Columbians' walk briskly in unison Wink

Bet she was sick and cleaning it up

I also reckon she was cleaning some mess up that she had accidentally made.

That or she has some mental health worries surrounding cleanliness.

Yep I second the spilt something and cleared it up thing - but then you caught her in the act so rather than 'fess up about making a mess of your kitchen she pretended to be a clean freak. She's probably now wondering what came over her (and that's probably why she decided to stick to tea later on)

Surely that's a bit of OCD at play?

Well it's a new reason for "You'll Always Find Me in the Kitchen At Parties". Maybe you could write a song about it and have a hit - whole new career there!

Maybe your party was so dull she wanted something to do!!

Wink

I don't mean that by the way, YANBU, it is odd.

Sort of thing my mother would do and claim it to be perfectly normal behaviour.

I have a rule in my flat...if you feel the need to comment on how clean or tidy something is, either keep your mouth shut or clean/tidy it. DM learned this one the hard way when she was handed a mop after criticising.

I'm a busy person. If I've used a quiet half hour to relax rather than clean, I won't be criticised for it. Especially when my home is generally reasonably clean and very tidy (as soon as DD is in bed that is!)

So she'd do well here. In the situation you were in OP, I'd have told her I like her Smile

I think SE might be right on the money - would explain not having an explanation.

Either that or she spilt something.

V strange behaviour. Also, are you in Murrica as Ajax not available in UK.

Next time just show her the hoover and where the bathroom cleaner is..

Perhaps it was very old Ajax, which might explain your visitor's unusual eagerness to get scrubbing.

I used to know someone who took way way too much speed and she used to do this so tempted as I am to say you dreamed this it's entirely possible that it's true! Do you think your friend was a speed freak?

I think she's probably got OCD Sad

This doesn't necessarily mean she thinks your kitchen is dirty. She might have sneezed and be worried that she will have sneezed germs all over your kitchen and that might make one of your children catch a cold and what if it turns into a chest infection and it will be all HER fault. . . So she cleans and gets tired because it won't be the first thing she has cleaned today. And then she had to lie to you, and now you don't like her and have even put a thread on the internet about her weirdness (not a criticism of you BTW).

I used to be a bit like this about 15 years ago. Thank God I am not any more. It's exhausting. Cut her some slack.

She was on speed or coke. No other explanation. Have her come to my house, she can go wild!
