AIBU?

That this woman was insulting my housekeeping skills.

I recently had a bit of a party for my DHs birthday. Just a few round for snacks and drinks. My DHs brother brought his new girlfriend, who I'd never met before. She seemed nice enough and was quite friendly. However later in the evening I went into the kitchen and I was shocked to see her with a scouring pad with ajax cleaner on rubbing down my cupboards. How bizarre I thought. Apart from the fact they didn't need cleaning, who would do that. Aibu that this is weird?

Is Worra the new girlfriend?

Haha Pumpkinpositive that is very tempting. Just a little update about it. BIL came round yesterday on his own. I casually mentioned about his new girlfriend and how helpful she was in my kitchen, he just grinned and said "oh don't take offence at that , she was just nervous and needed something to do", so no worries, I don't have a problem with that. I think what OP needs in this scenaro is a strategy.

Here is my suggestion (this only works if you have kids or pets):

Let the housework pile up for a week or so. Do nothing. Do not lift a finger. Dirty dishes, unironed clothes, unmade beds, no sweeping, cleaning of any description.

Then ask the girlfriend to come round of an evening to babysit your kids. If you can stretch this out to an overnight sleep over, so much the better.

Leave all your cleaning products and detergent within easy view.

Scarper.

Rinse and repeat process every couple of months.

She does sound like a keeper. I hope everything goes well between her and your BIL, OP. Fingers crossed. Grin

She's a paid-up member of Stealth Cleaners Anonymous. You get bonus points for cleaning a strangers house without them finding out.

Another one here who thought OCD straight away.

I have OCD and it's a flaming nightmare!

My DH and the older 2 kids rib me about it all the time rotten little sods.

YABVVU. Shock

She sounds fucking fantastic.

Pray your brother in law marries her. Other people have to pay good money for this sort of service and you're getting it for free. Envy Envy Envy

Why do the stealth cleaners never come visit me!

I wonder if this is my brother's ex girlfriend? My mum was most offended one night to catch her stealing across the landing to the bathroom wearing rubber gloves and intent on cleaning the loo. Loo was already perfectly clean, my Mum being an ex Matron and cleaning obsessed herself.

Did she kill someone in your kitchen and is trying to hide the evidence?

CoffeeBeanMonster · 24/07/2015 18:22

My mum and mother in law do this all the time and it doesn't really bother me.

If it was a friend/friend of a friend/random person I would either tell them that they could do the whole kitchen or to sod off, depending on my mood and the state of the kitchen.

Maybe she was uncomfortable and anxious mixing with a new social group and this was a way of avoiding it, justifying it to herself by thinking they needed a clean (which they obviously didn't).

She was on speed or coke. No other explanation. Have her come to my house, she can go wild!

I think she's probably got OCD Sad

This doesn't necessarily mean she thinks your kitchen is dirty. She might have sneezed and be worried that she will have sneezed germs all over your kitchen and that might make one of your children catch a cold and what if it turns into a chest infection and it will be all HER fault. . . So she cleans and gets tired because it won't be the first thing she has cleaned today. And then she had to lie to you, and now you don't like her and have even put a thread on the internet about her weirdness (not a criticism of you BTW).

I used to be a bit like this about 15 years ago. Thank God I am not any more. It's exhausting. Cut her some slack.

I used to know someone who took way way too much speed and she used to do this so tempted as I am to say you dreamed this it's entirely possible that it's true! Do you think your friend was a speed freak?

Perhaps it was very old Ajax, which might explain your visitor's unusual eagerness to get scrubbing.

Next time just show her the hoover and where the bathroom cleaner is..
