and not be at all surprised that the ones who come over all bolshie and angry on a few forums spend the majority of their time laying down the law on this AIBU forum Grin.

They are the ones who are intolerant, like a rant and it spills over into every post they make....

OP posts:

I think the official line is so you can look for relevant parenting info, within certain time parameters and using names that are known for posting on that topic.

Unofficial line - to gather ammo for bunfights.

Sparklingbrook · 22/07/2015 12:13

I just use it to confirm my suspicions.

With all the namechanging it's no good for searching for someone who might be an authority on anything any more.

Icantbelieveitsnotbutter · 22/07/2015 12:18

I name change all the time to avoid stuff like this.

CainInThePunting · 22/07/2015 12:55

Isn't it a bit rude and disturbing to stalk a poster through AS?

Cyber-stalking is a form of bullying and harassment so I think anyone using AS on usernames should carefully consider where to draw the line.

If you feel a poster is being deliberately goady, you have the choice to ignore/hide thread or close your browser.

I may choose to just hide this one.

Sparklingbrook · 22/07/2015 12:57

No it's not rude if you are just doing it to confirm what you are thinking. it's rude to post those suspicions on the thread and against Talk Guidelines.

Hide thread/report etc, doesn't affect anyone else.

CainInThePunting · 22/07/2015 13:05

My question was to norwaypet?

Sparklingbrook · 22/07/2015 13:07

Oh right, sorry Cain, you didn't specify, but talking of which where are they? Confused

CainInThePunting · 22/07/2015 13:13

Ah, I see Sparklingbrook, I tend to default respond to the OP on a thread although I suppose a PP could misinterpret that.

Well, if no response is forthcoming I may just hide it.

Sparklingbrook · 22/07/2015 13:14

I may do the same. Smile

YouTheCat · 22/07/2015 13:18

I think the OP is aimed at a specific poster to try and goad them.

What other reason could there be for such an OP?

Very bad form indeed.

CatthiefKeith · 22/07/2015 23:26

Mintyy, he gave himself up and went quietly. Was all very anticlimactic, thankfully Smile

BabyFeets · 23/07/2015 01:33

It's people who have to much time on their hands who do that, like who cares! Even if it is a troll post who cares man

reni1 · 23/07/2015 02:09

I only checked a couple of times when a post seemed extremely nasty to see if the poster is usually such a bully.

Shaggy?!

Spartans · 23/07/2015 06:17

I have only used it when a poster starts a thread, then someone else comes along and points out that the op has posted about this issue a lot and has omitted a lot of detail. Then people who saw last thread start talking about it and I have no idea what's going on. So have a quick check to catch myself up. Usually I can't find it anyway.

I name change every few months, just because I think some relatives are on here and worry they will put it together and place who I am.

I never name change and start a thread though immediatly though. Seems a bit odd.

Sparklingbrook · 23/07/2015 06:39

Doing an Advanced Search takes seconds man! Grin

londonrach · 23/07/2015 06:54

Never understood why anyone would name change. (Doesnt admit to not knowing how to). Grin

Ruledbycatsandkids6 · 23/07/2015 07:29

I think it's fine to name change if you have over shared.

It's a shame as I like seeing familiar posters like 'worra' etc.

Couldn't be arsed to advanced search or such, think troll hunting and moderating best left to MNHQ.

Sansarya · 23/07/2015 07:31

I can't be bothered doing an AS but some posters have such a distinctive style that you can't help but ID them, even if they have name changed. Xenia, for example, has changed her name many times but is still pretty easily identifiable!

lilacblossomtime · 23/07/2015 07:38

It's a bit weird to stalk also a bit creepy to be able to recognise people by their posting style, like the people who claim to be able to smell whether someone has flossed their teeth at 200 paces.

Sansarya · 23/07/2015 07:40

As I said, some people have an extremely distinctive posting style, so it is possible to recognise them. I don't think that's creepy. If someone has been saying the same thing for years under a few different names then it's quite obvious really.

Sparklingbrook · 23/07/2015 07:42

If you name change because of the worry of being recognised remember to also change your posting style.

lilacblossomtime · 23/07/2015 07:45

Creepy was a mean word but I still think it is a bit of an unnerving ability.

I have been tempted Coconutty but never have. Might be quite liberating.
