to keep a bright yellow bathroom suite?

Moving into first (owned) home next month, not much spare cash, lots needs doing.

Aibu to keep the 70s bright yellow bathroom suite and try and go for a retro feel accessorising with quirky pictures, shower curtain etc?? Or should I prioritise ripping it out asap?

No idea but guessing a new bathroom isn't cheap!

Oh I would love that, I would keep it.

As others said you could retro it up . lots of 70s stuff around on ebay and markets like Camden in London I am told.

Chchchchanging · 20/07/2015 21:36

Omg I would LOVE this!
White metro tiles, wooden floor ...

Damnautocorrect · 20/07/2015 21:36

Yes yes! Keep it, the right towels & accessories it will look great. You'll end up loving it I'm sure

OVienna · 20/07/2015 21:38

Totally totally embrace it.

emsyj · 20/07/2015 21:45

We did our bathroom earlier this year and I wanted a primrose suite so badly I got quotes from the various suppliers who still make coloured suites to order. Sadly the cost was really high so we've ended up with a dull white suite. I definitely think coloured suites will come back full force in the next few years and roll on that happy day. I would keep a coloured suite as long as it wasn't brown.

ChilliAndMint · 20/07/2015 21:51

I'd love a yellow suite. Don't know if I'd go "retro" 'cause it isn't my thing...but I think "constraints" , ie things that are not the norm lend themselves to creative ideas.

I predict coloured bathroom suites will be the new " big thing" and I'm rarely wrong when it comes to stuff like that.

All the best with your new home OP.

Reminds me of this. Keep it for the moment, it's just a room you wash in.

sebsmummy1 · 20/07/2015 21:56

Yellow sounds really cool to me too. Would love to see pics when you get them.

Pipbin · 20/07/2015 21:57

I agree Chilli. I was thinking how coloured suites were due a come back only today.

ChilliAndMint · 20/07/2015 22:10

I was in Dunelm today and I mentioned to my friend that in my childhood years there was such poor choice re home décor unless you had a fortune to spend.

We are lucky that a lot of things are more affordable but bathrooms haven't changed much in 30 years.

Going to google funky coloured suites...

TheWintersmith · 20/07/2015 22:15

I keep saying this when I watch homes under the hammer. White bathroom is so over. Colour will come back in.

I horrified DH by saying I'd keep an avocado suite if the house had one.

I would too

DadfromUncle · 20/07/2015 22:20

I love that Mitchell and Webb clip.

Joking aside - did anyone stop to think about the carbon footprint and raw materials effects of smashing up millions of perfectly good bathrooms just because the colours were no longer fashionable?

Indole · 20/07/2015 22:28

I would absolutely love a yellow bathroom suite. It sounds really fun. Keep it!

Ireallyneedtoletitgonow · 20/07/2015 22:34

Loving the wooden floor idea! Thanks for the well wishing everyone!

Do you remember that you would buy coloured toilet paper to match the suite. I know you still can in Waitrose.

Fluffycloudland77 · 20/07/2015 22:45

I thought coloured loo roll was the height of sophistication when I was little.

You can get black loo roll now, now that's classy Grin

spiderlight · 20/07/2015 22:55

NO! Loo roll has to be white, or....or....bad things happen. I don't know what bad things, but they would be BAD. It has always been so.

A yellow bathroom could be made to look fab though. I'd go with navy accessories and driftwood. We rented a house with an awful pale blue bathroom suite but we found the perfect shower curtain and suddenly everyone was saying how amazing it was.

VivaLeBeaver · 20/07/2015 23:00

Keep it! I saw someone chucking out a lovely lemon yellow suite the other day and nearly pulled over to put it i. The car boot but thought dh would kill me.

Get these towels scion

Dowser · 20/07/2015 23:55

I'd go for large black tiles. Maybe with a vein of silver in.

My bathroom is all white...as is all my house.

RusticBlush · 20/07/2015 23:57

Ohh a sunshine bathroom...you could make it lovely with the right accessories Smile

MsJuniper · 21/07/2015 00:04

We have a yellow bath and sink, when we moved in there was also green carpet and jungle textured wallpaper Smile

We painted everything white apart from the yellow suite, with mauve towels and accessories (we already had those but it works ok) and black and white tiles/shower curtain.

I think everyone who grew up in the 70s was so overloaded with chintz and pattern and colour it was a relief to get things as minimal as possible and personally I'd love all-white but it does seem like the coloured suites are back in vogue so by virtue of our lack of money we accidentally have a stylish bathroom.

WaggleBee · 21/07/2015 02:48

I love the sound of a yellow bathroom suite. Is it this shade of yellow? Trying to picture it.

to keep a bright yellow bathroom suite?
scrivette · 21/07/2015 03:21

We have the all yellow suite. We have lived with it for 5 years now and I have grown to like it. (Not so keen on the green walls though!)

DH's Grandmother said that she always wanted a yellow bath when she was younger so she could 'bathe in sunshine!' When I am fed up of it I just think of her!

DJThreeDog · 21/07/2015 09:20

I am loving the idea of a yellow bathroom suite!

My first flat had a turquoise bath and sink. Could have been nice....but wasn't!

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 21/07/2015 09:23

Coloured bathroom suites are fashionable. Agree with others, embrace if condition is good.
