to keep a bright yellow bathroom suite?

Moving into first (owned) home next month, not much spare cash, lots needs doing.

Aibu to keep the 70s bright yellow bathroom suite and try and go for a retro feel accessorising with quirky pictures, shower curtain etc?? Or should I prioritise ripping it out asap?

No idea but guessing a new bathroom isn't cheap!

I really wanted to source different coloured pieces and go retro with our bathroom! I swear I haven't even seen that grand designs - deffo cool though. It's just toothpaste splashes that will pee you off!

I lost the fight to keep our peach suite :-( I don't get why all bathrooms need to be white now!

littlesupersparks · 20/07/2015 19:45

I also lost the fight to keep the dado rail in the hallway mind, so what do i know ;-£

Absolutely gorgeous. I did my deco (original, the flat was in such bad nick no one had changed anything since the 30s) black and white bathroom in sunny yellow from Wilkos. Looks and feels joyful - everyone loves it.

If you want to go retro, stick to 70s palette ie add orange (not brown - some things ain't ever going to come back) and white. If you have no money, do this entirely with Primark towels, which come in zingy shades and are not only brilliant but about 3 quid each.

We looked at a lovely house which had a yellow bathroom suite ( bath , loo, hand basin and shower )
It had the original tiles on the wall too , they were primrose yellow , with pictures of tropical fish on some of them .
We didn't buy the house , but would definetely have kept the retro bathroom

Fluffycloudland77 · 20/07/2015 19:53

One of our relatives has Primark towels, they are so fluffy and soft.

BikeRunSki · 20/07/2015 19:54

I'd embrace it with brightly coloured retro wallpaper and accessories.

BackforGood · 20/07/2015 19:55

I'd keep it too.

We want to replace out bathroom, but I'm resisting at the moment as every shop I've looked in only sells white. I don't want a clinical white suite, I want a coloured one

silverfingersandtoes · 20/07/2015 19:56

Keep it, keep it and love it! I long for the demise of the white suite - am so, so tired of it.

MrsMook · 20/07/2015 19:58

Go retro. Tiling can be freshened up with a steam clean if necessary, which will freshen it all back up.

I'm amazed that coloured suites aren't back in yet. All white is dull!

DayLillie · 20/07/2015 19:59

Primrose is one of my favourite colours - much better than the muddy avocado, and that horrendous orange colour that came later.

I am sure it will be back soon Wink

Oooh

I'd go really fresh - white everywhere else .

We had a yellow suite which we couldn't afford to replace so we went Art Deco with it. It looked great chrome, black and a sort of lemon yellow. Sounds awful but looked great. The pink suite on the other hand could not be lived with!

rockybalboa · 20/07/2015 20:25

It sounds awesome!! Style it up with some clean white and crisp grey and it will look fab. I'd get some grey and white chevron patterns going on in there.

whois · 20/07/2015 20:26

Keep it if it is decent condition and you don't hate it. Plenty of other things to spend money on than a working bathroom suite.

COOL! I bet you'll make it look great

trufflehunterthebadger · 20/07/2015 21:21

I'm so bloody bored of white suites. My dad used to manage a bathroom showroom before he retired and he always reckoned that once every coloured suite in the UK was ripped out the bathroom companies would bring back coloured suites. They used to have a beautiful plum coloured suite that they had done out with bamboo wallpaper and japanese accessories. Looked really dramatic until Dad took it out, now it's boring white like all the others

With the right accessories your bathroom could look fabulous. Embrace it !!

beatofthedrum · 20/07/2015 21:23

I'd love a sunshine yellow toilet and bath! How cheery!

Gunpowder · 20/07/2015 21:26

Think coloured bathroom suites are definitely coming back. Read it in Elle deco or similar, so it must be true. Wink I think a yellow bathroom will brighten up your mornings.

trufflehunterthebadger · 20/07/2015 21:30

Coloured suites are definitely in. It sounds great and agree you should keep it.

We had an old avocado one in our old house and we lived with it for a couple of years. I grew to like it. Maths yellow one sounds nicer though.
