To already be fed up with teachers/eduaction workers posting about their long holiday!

Facebook is swarming with people saying how much they deserve it and other people patting them on the back. It seems like the world and his wife are in education or SAHM's with 6 glorious weeks ahead of them. Apart from a one week holiday I have a juggling timetable of various childcare arrangements to run to and fro from.

I know many people in the public sector leaving their jobs. The Government treats its workers very badly, and many jobs have changed out of all recognition.

IHeartKingThistle · 19/07/2015 19:22

Raven I bailed before you did and went into Adult Ed. If people like you are going the system is in a bad way.

Thanks
ravenAK · 19/07/2015 19:26

Thanks noble.

To be fair to my HT, once he heard I was seriously looking he did spend a couple of weeks sidling up to me & whispering sweet nothings in my ear about finding a year 7 place for ds now we're an academy & 'have some leeway over admissions' Hmm.

But it's the whole culture. Ten years ago, you'd tell people you were a teacher in this country & at worst they'd be politely bored, more often they'd say something like 'oh all those kids would do my head in'.

Now you're a skiving, whingeing bastard who alternates paid holidays with striking except when you fancy scamming a free holiday by organising an overpriced trip Grin.

Enough already! I might be back in a couple of years, but for now, I'm out.

JadeJaderson · 19/07/2015 19:28

Noblegiraffe - I have no idea. How about you just spit out what you want to say and tell me?

Wideopenspace · 19/07/2015 19:33

I wasn't really saying spaniel was bleating!! ARGH! SPANIEL you knew that, right? I was taking the piss, following a comment waaaay back.

Fuck. Did I misjudge that?

ilovesooty · 19/07/2015 19:34

ravenAK congratulations on the new job.

One if my colleagues at work has a wife who's a primary HT. Their family is moving to Dubai later this year where she's secured a headship at an international school. I don't imagine her school will find recruiting a replacement easy.

Jade or her husband could of course train to go into teaching. She and others haven't yet explained why so many teachers are leaving if the conditions are so great.

larant · 19/07/2015 19:36

Dubai relies on slaves.

downgraded · 19/07/2015 19:37

In what way is that relevant larant?

JadeJaderson · 19/07/2015 19:37

ilovesooty don't try and turn me into a teacher basher. I'm anything but.

Neither or my dh have ever had any desire to teach and it doesn't interest me in the slightest. Not quite sure what your point is?

spanieleyes · 19/07/2015 19:38

wideopenspace No, no problems here!!

BoneyBackJefferson · 19/07/2015 19:39

Wideopen

Sorry didn't mean you, jade was cherry picking to "prove her point"

ilovesooty · 19/07/2015 19:39

If you can't understand my point Jade I don't think I can be bothered to waste my time explaining it to you. I don't think it should be too difficult for you to comprehend so far

Wideopenspace · 19/07/2015 19:40

Oh thank fuck.

larant · 19/07/2015 19:40

It is relevant because a Headteacher in Dubai may have a great time, but at the expense of slaves.

ravenAK · 19/07/2015 19:41

It's not Dubai that I'm off to, in fact, although I did have an offer there Wink.

Thanks Iheart & ilove.

downgraded · 19/07/2015 19:43

I think that's a stretch, larant.

ilovesooty · 19/07/2015 19:45

I don't think I'd want to work in Dubai myself but I hardly think it's my place to comment on that to a colleague whose wife I don't even know larant.

JadeJaderson · 19/07/2015 19:45

Oh good ilovesooty.

You save your breath, I'll save the tedium of reading your misdirected comment. Win win.

swallowed · 19/07/2015 19:48

It's a shame that an interesting and relevant discussion can't be had without resorting to childish insults.

ilovesooty · 19/07/2015 19:49

Good. I'll just assume you haven't any ideas about why so many teachers are leaving then. Thought as much.

noblegiraffe · 19/07/2015 19:52

Jade, you said Teaching is a decent enough profession to get into, in most cases adequately paid (IMO) and with some lovely perks. Some bad bits and stresses, just like every other professional role.

I wouldn't hurt to hear some teachers say it now and then.

Thing is, teachers are leaving in droves. You have been unable to explain why, with your assertions that teaching is a decent profession. Given that actions speak louder than words, teachers are telling you with their actions that you are wrong.

I love teaching. But dear god I don't blame the ones who are quitting, and I don't think I would recommend it to anyone as a career choice at the moment.

Anniesaunt · 19/07/2015 20:00

In my personal experience teachers I come across tend to mention the extra hours they put in as part of defending themselves against mean and nasty comments. Only one person I know seems to bring it up randomly and phrase it offensively some times. Tbh I think it is more to do with the type of person she is and she would be like that whatever her profession.

I don't think it's fair to object to people defending themselves.

wannabestressfree · 19/07/2015 20:00

Well said noble. We have lost two in our department in the last two years. Not for other teaching jobs but to leave the profession all together. One lady has no job at all to go too but she regularly cries with the stress.
Some people are so deluded on here and think we are some pampered Mr chips types. I am exhausted. Roll on Friday.

larant · 19/07/2015 20:03

The job of teacher has changed. It doesn't surprise me that some teachers are not happy with this change.

swallowed · 19/07/2015 20:04

I know of two that have left the profession this year, but they were both useless teachers who couldn't cope.

No great loss to be honest.
