To be annoyed my SIL called her dog this name?

My DD (1 1/2) is called Connie, I've loved that name for years. And now my sister in law has just gotten a puppy and called it Bonnie. It's so close it made me a little mad I sort of know I'm being a little unreasonable it's just a name so really I'm looking for someone to tell me to get a grip! Haha!

I think you're being absolutely ridiculous, OP. Sorry about that.

RaptorInaPorkPieHat · 17/07/2015 09:58

My mum was called Connie (short for Constance). I love that name Flowers

browneyedgirl86 · 17/07/2015 12:00

Yabu, when I was a kid we had a dog called Connie!

MitzyLeFrouf · 17/07/2015 12:03

Your SIL is BU for giving her dog such a dull and obvious doggy name when she could have called her Phyllis. She's not BU however for picking a name that rhymes with your daughter's.

19lottie82 · 17/07/2015 13:12

Maybe your sister wanted to have a dog called Bonnie for ages, and was peed off you called your DD Connie?

19lottie82 · 17/07/2015 13:13

I have a dog called Bella and my Dh's ex called her dog Bella too
when mine was about 7 months old. That really pee'd me off. grrrrr..

In fairness think bella is the most popular name for a female dog at the moment!

ApprenticeViper · 17/07/2015 13:21

Here you are

My uncle named his dog my name, and I was here first! I have probably heard of more dogs than people with my name Confused

We had a cat called Bonnie. When we got it we knew we would be getting a second cat soon which we intended to call Clyde. However, when second at arrived Mum announced she was not opening the door and shouting "Bonnie and Clyde" as the neighbours would laugh, so we called number two Bennie instead.

tootyflooty · 17/07/2015 13:36

all my pets have had mainly "people "names , Oliver, Freddie, Finn, Alby, Charlie, Luke , William, Mr Darcy, Heidi, Dexter, Beth ( except Merlin the rabbit!, well I suppose that is still a legendary people name!) Several friends have children of the same name as my menagerie, either named before or after my pets were named, I just take it as us all having very good taste lol!!

TTWK · 17/07/2015 13:45

My mum was called Connie (short for Constance).

If Jenny is short for Jennifer, surely Connie is short for Conifer.

Rainbunny · 17/07/2015 18:08

You'll stop caring about it very soon I'm sure. Your reaction could have been worse, I know from experience! We have a rescue dog that came with his name already established and we liked it so we kept his name when we adopted him. When I told a friend our new dog she lost her temper (this was in public view at a party). She shouted how it was ridiculous to name a dog with a proper "human name!" Found out two months later that she was pregnant (of course) and apparently my dog's name was top of their list if they had a boy. I didn't change my dog's name and she had a girl. She has never, ever referred to her dog-name-outburst or explained why she flipped, awkward! I only got the backstory as her dh told my dh, apparently she was furious with me (??) right up until they discovered they were having a girl.

youareallbonkers · 17/07/2015 18:57

Connie isn't even a name, it's a nickname

MrsMummyPig · 17/07/2015 19:01

Youre right TTWK My mother in law is a Connie and we all call her conifer.

NoelEdmondsHighFlyingTurds · 17/07/2015 19:05

My Dad gave his dog the same name as me. I came first.

ReginaBlitz · 17/07/2015 19:07

Grin I've heard it all now

pigsDOfly · 17/07/2015 19:16

Why is Connie not a name Bonkers?

If that's what someone's called then that's their name.

honeyroar · 17/07/2015 19:21

Years ago, a man called his son Thomas. It was his beloved horse's name. It suited them both! We all giggled at first, but we all got used to it and obviously human Thomas has long outlived horsey Thomas.

Yarp · 17/07/2015 19:21

Bonnie isn't a doggy name. It's a nice name for children too.

I love Connie, and would have chosen it for a DD i mint have had (my Grandmother's name was Constance - so I'd call her Connie, with Connie as a NN)

IMO even though they rhyme they do have a different 'feel', so YABU

Aridane · 17/07/2015 19:30

Oh bless, OP - YABU

DowntownFunk · 17/07/2015 19:32

My ex neighbour let her young children choose their 2 new puppies' names. They gave them my kids' exact names. I'm glad they moved! not really they were lovely

Sighing · 17/07/2015 19:35

When I was small my aunt had a lovely dog called 'zoe'. I had the same hair colour as the dog and would lay in front of the fire exhausted with Zoe after a run in the park. So my nickname became Zoe (or variants of). The dog died. My parents called me the nickname affectionately for many years. A granddaughter of this aunt was born this year. She has been named Zoe by her dad (my cousin). We're all fine with this.
