To be shocked and not a little afraid of the Tory plans for trade unions announced today

Sorry if there is already a thread on this, but I couldn't find one.

These plans go way too far and amount to a blatant attack on the Labour party - an attempt to destroy it once and for all.

No rights for workers at all - what would be the point of striking if your employer gets two weeks to organise agency staff to fulfil your role? What would it ever achieve?

Can anyone who voted Tory really say this is what they wanted? That this is any way fair? I feel utterly wretched about this. What right do these people have to do this?

Labour failed because it had no vision.

I always felt Ed M was pitching to the right of what he believed in an effort to be elected. It was that sense he, and his party, weren't being authentic to their true values was a turn off.... But that's the problem for Labour. If they are authentic, not enough of the country feels the same way and they do even worse a la 1983 election

it's my ability to pay the mortgage that's the key factor, as I guess it is for most people under 50

There's a kind of irony to it that because of the Conservatives, many working families will shortly be in a position where they are struggling to pay their mortgages. I hope the ones that voted Tory are bitterly regretting it now.

Well that depends on which sweeping generalisations you go along with. Taking one random anecdotal internet example, I'm over 50 with a big mortgage to pay. However, I don'r presume to know how many others are in my situation. If everything I hear is true, many (?most) people under 50 are extremely fortunate if they've been able to fund a deposit in order to get a mortgage - but really, I don't any facts.

Even I had considered my ability to pay my own mortgage as a vital factor in casting my vote - it wouldn't have persuaded me to vote Conservative (or not)- I don't think any major party would have much influence on that in overall terms.

The phrase "One Nation" is starting to give me the creeps

I'm not sure, it has a nostalgic ring to it.

One Nation.
One Nation.
One Nation - One Party ?
One Nation - One People - One Party ?

They've not destroyed the welfare system

I think that depends who you are. You might be able to say that, but can a 21 year old with no home say the same now?
