My cats and cat poo in neighbours' gardens

Blahdeblah1 · 12/07/2015 08:52

I moved into my house a year ago and have three cats. My neighbours are all quite elderly and have lived there for decades, they are all keen gardeners and very proud of their gardens.

Several months ago my next door neighbour started complaining to me about my cats pooing on his drive, so every time I go round and clear it up. Although to be honest I'm not convinced that the poo is from my cats.

Anyway, I'm now having complaints about cat poo from people who live way down the street, that my cats are pooing in their garden, although they admitted they hadn't actually seen the cat that did it. I live on a large suburban housing estate where there are loads of cats.

AIBU for thinking that cats are cats and I shouldn't be expected to be picking up any cat poo really, and to tell my neighbours to deal with it themselves and stop complaining to me? I can't control where my cats poo, they are not dogs.

So mythical I've even gone to the trouble of reading your links, and they just confirm that you're wrong. Assuming your children that play in the garden aren't either pregnant or at foetus stage, even your own choice of link states there is no risk to children, even those with compromised immune systems

prorsum · 12/07/2015 21:45

There are some absolute nutcases on here but presumably they are a bit lonely and insecure so they should be helped really.

That is quite a statement coming from a cat lover!

LashesandLipstick · 12/07/2015 21:49

Whilst in the real world people have cats and vaccs don't cause autism.

Hahaha best post

Shots fired! Grin

I'm a mad cat lady myself and still find that hilarious.

MythicalKings · 12/07/2015 22:05

Absolutely pissing myself laughing that so called evidence link is entitled kitty litter

Hilarious. Miscarriage and damaged babies. Great sense of humour there.

LashesandLipstick · 12/07/2015 22:09

MythicalKings you are overreacting. It's cat shit not nuclear fallout

WhimsicalTwattery · 12/07/2015 22:10

Anybody who has a cat knows that there is fuck all you can do.

You keep telling them to stop shitting in gardens but do they listen?!

Lurkedforever1 · 12/07/2015 22:17

My sincere apologies mythical I had realised you're children are at foetus stage still so at risk of blindness. In which case they are possibly slightly too young to be playing in the garden unattended. Or if your children are old enough to be pregnant themselves and it is your future grandchildrens eyesight you are panicking about, then they are old enough not to be eating cat shit

Lurkedforever1 · 12/07/2015 22:18

hadn't realised not had

WhimsicalTwattery · 12/07/2015 22:19

MythicalKings I presume you're referring to the possible risk of toxocariasis (roundworm) that can be caused by poo of a cat that hasn't bern wormed when you say 'miscarriage and damaged babies'.

You can also become infected from dogs and foxes.

There's every possibility that shite in gardens is foxes, not cats.
Anyone fancy patenting fox nappies or fox port-a-loos to stop them shitting in gardens? No? Thought not....

Icantbelieveitsnotbutter · 12/07/2015 22:20

My neighbours knocked on my door and told me to remove all the Lily's in my garden so they don't kill their cats.

I get lots of cat poop in my garden and it really pisses me off. I clean it up all the time. I dont own a cat do why should I have to clean it up?

captainproton · 12/07/2015 22:41

I used to live on a cul-de-sac on a modern estate, the sort of street where no cars would drive up and down all day except when people went to/from work. Cats were everywhere and so was their shit. Using the hose on them occasionally worked.

We moved to a B road, I hardly ever see a cat. Double glazing keeps traffic noise out, and the cars keep the cat numbers down. So glad we moved here.

Icantbelieveitsnotbutter · 12/07/2015 22:42

If my neighbour catches cats pooping in his garden he chucks them in his boot and drops them off in Delamere forest.

I've told him he will get into trouble but he doesn't listen.

If we all allowed all pets to roam we would be knee deep in shit. Its about time the law changed.

Sparklingbrook · 12/07/2015 22:45

I would report my neighbour to the Police if he did that Icant what a vile person he is. I imagine the Delamere Forest wardens and local cat rescues may like to know that information too actually....

LashesandLipstick · 12/07/2015 22:47

There are some vile people in the world

MistressMia · 12/07/2015 22:48

All the talk about toxo risk versus no risk is irrelevant.

People have a right to enjoy their gardens without other peoples property fouling them up.

Cat owners should take all reasonable steps and more to stop their cats from being a nuisance, but by the same token non-cat owners need to understand that cats can't be fully controlled either and some transgressions will occur, just as they do with other animals eg foxes.

A bit of mutual empathy required, as in any situation.

Icantbelieveitsnotbutter tell her to build a run. If you refuse to remove the lilies, she might just do that and your problem with the shitting will be gone.

Sparklingbrook · 12/07/2015 22:48

There really are Lashes. Perhaps they need dumping in a forest.

LashesandLipstick · 12/07/2015 22:49

I was thinking that sparkling, there's plenty of people who's behaviour I find annoying, maybe k should kidnap them and dump them in a forest...

LashesandLipstick · 12/07/2015 22:49

I

Icantbelieveitsnotbutter · 12/07/2015 22:52

I'm not removing my Lily's. They remind me of my nan. My front and back garden are full of them Smile

I told the pcso about my neighbour but I haven't heard anything of it.

WhattodowithMum · 12/07/2015 22:57

Can't se why a cat would eat a lily anyway.

MistressMia · 12/07/2015 22:58

Dumping the cats is vile, but can you not see how someone would be at the end of their tether ?

Why should he have to put up with it ?

The cat owners should have taken steps to prevent their cats from polluting his garden. The cat population is massive now and to be constantly dealing with the mess of hordes of visiting cats is not acceptable.

Sparklingbrook · 12/07/2015 22:59

No I can't see how anyone could be so 'at the end of their tether' about poo they would think putting a living creature in a car boot and dumping them miles away from home would be a reasonable thing to do.

LashesandLipstick · 12/07/2015 23:00

I agree with sparkling

Icantbelieveitsnotbutter · 12/07/2015 23:02

My neighbour is retired and he has the most beautiful garden. He spends all day pissing around in it.

I understand his anger tbh but I don't agree with him dumping them.

He puts anti-freeze in his water features over winter too. That worried me in case an animal drinks out of them.

what I don't think cats will eat them either Grin
My neighbour hates my lilies
