Yesterday my car started smoking. I pulled over at a small co op supermarket. I am completely dependent on my car for work, I also have no money.

A woman was getting out of her car as I was getting out of mine and started laughing and said ooh that doesn't look good.

I just looked at her and said nothing as she laughed and then said curtly "I'm pleased you are finding this so funny."

She said "do you want any help?" and i was both cross and annoyed at her laughing and at the situation and td her to no, I'd hate anything to interrupt her amusement.

Today I don't feel so good about the incident as I don't think she meant any real harm. But do people not think at all that the car breaking down means I'm done for? Sad Her laughing made me feel rubbish.

"Im not depressed! Just a bit stressed. My gp is a bus ride away in any case."

Lying didn't say that you were depressed, just that it was better to go to the GP now before you're depressed. But actually fedup you are reacting very negatively to absolutely everything which is being suggested to you. The GP is a bus ride away, does that mean you cannot go? And are we talking a 12 mile bus ride, or 3 miles that you could walk? Every time anyone suggests anything you counter with some reason it won't work. That's not a healthy mindset. I appreciate the situation is bad, and trust me, I've been in very bad situations myself, but perpetually knocking back any suggestions is not going to get you out of this.

Have you had the car looked at? What colour was the smoke? Is the car still running?

Fedupofcar · 11/07/2015 13:36

Gab what I was trying to explain is I bave £40 in my purse that's IT. If j spend £3 on a bus ride to my gp and I'm not Ill Thats a waste of money.

I think I'm being realistic - for the next few weeks I am screwed.

Can you answer my questions please?

How far is your drive to work? What car do you have?

Fedupofcar · 11/07/2015 13:45

It isn't a "drive to work" my job is based on driving like if you were delivering pizzas.

I have a ford ka

Do you have any friends or family who could help you out? Speak to employers see if they will hold your job long enough to sort car? Could you scrap the car and buy something else with the cash?

Fedupofcar · 11/07/2015 13:48

I could scrap the car but don't think it would raise enough money to get something else. Might tide me over though :)

What colour was the smoke? Is the car still running? Where did the smoke come from?

It could be a minor oil leak that's hitting a hot part of the engine- that would make smoke (sometimes a lot of it!) but if you're sensible and keep the oil filled you can probably still use the car for shorter trips.

Fedupofcar · 11/07/2015 13:49

I took it to the garage wander they reckon its hundreds of pounds. Just not what the cars worth even if I could afford it - I cant.

What did they say is wrong with it?

WanderWomble · 11/07/2015 13:58

Where I live, you get about £150 for a scrapped car. You could use that money to buy another cheap run about.

There's a couple of decent looking Fiestas on Autotrader for £150, for example.

Another thought- could you take out a small loan/credit card to pay for the car? You'd likely only need a few hundred pounds and if you paid if off every month it would go down quite quickly.

Fedupofcar · 11/07/2015 14:00

I don't have very good credit. Will look into car scrap money.

I really hate to suggest this, but maybe apply for this card?

www.barclaycard.co.uk/personal/initialJJ?WT.mc_id=C021L011N91&WT.tsrc=DirectPartners&TC=MSM0260041&mpch=ads#tabbox0

Or this one?

www.capitalone.co.uk/creditcards/classic-3mpt.jsf

Both and 0% apr on spending. Not what I'd normally reccomend but if it's a choice between losing your job or getting a credit card, the card's the better choice.

Fedupofcar · 11/07/2015 14:28

I can't I don't have a very good credit record
