to think my gro-egg is BU

since I bought it it's been constantly angry, red, and telling me it's too hot for my DD to wear anything more than a nappy. It IS hot, I'll give it that. But I don't think it's always 27 degrees in my bedroom, I have window open, a fan on. I am sleeping in there and not feeling like it's that hot. Do I just have an angry gro-egg, or is the gro-egg always right and IABU?

Constant anger here. I don't care do anything different unless it's over 30.

CoperCabana · 10/07/2015 20:07

In my experience, the gro egg is very hot blooded and is purely designed to cause sheer and utter panic in new parents. So I switched it off and used my brain and senses instead! And sold the bastard!

TSSDNCOP · 10/07/2015 20:08

The gro-Egg is a ovoid, dictating cunt.

Trewfact.

honeysucklejasmine · 10/07/2015 20:08

Put it in the fridge. That'll test its calibration teach the fucker.

TSSDNCOP · 10/07/2015 20:09

I walked up to a pregnant person in Boots once who had one in her hand and advised her to put it down, step away and use the money for a pedicure instead.

CoperCabana · 10/07/2015 20:09

I shouldn't really have sold it. I should have microwaved it to see how fecking accurate it is then!

mmollytoots · 10/07/2015 20:11

mine's works perfectly...try it downstairs as it may be cooler

justmeokay · 10/07/2015 20:22

I'm starting to really resent its constant, seething discontent on my bedside table. I feel like it wishes it lived somewhere else, like nothing I do it enough for it. It's always too hot.

I remember this Grin. Sympathy.

LibrariesGaveUsPower · 10/07/2015 20:29

This is why we never had one. Ditto bath thermometers. Needy fuckers

MrsTerryPratchett · 10/07/2015 20:31

I'e actually muttered to mine, "people live in hot countries FFS". I still bloody have it and DD is four. WHY!?!?! It's like Stockholm Syndrome.

Writerwannabe83 · 10/07/2015 20:32

My gro-egg is shit.

From the 3rd day of owning one it decided that blue is the only colour it wants to glow. The temperature in the nursery is zero apparently....

Complete waste of money but at least it makes a nice night light Grin

Snozberry · 10/07/2015 20:39

I don't even know what a gro egg is, is it a thermometer? I had a flower shaped thing which measured room temp and bath temp and I carried the thing everywhere. I lost it and the relief was amazing.

Minesril · 10/07/2015 20:39

I think having the cover on (ours is the owl) makes the temperature higher? Serious design flaw! But it is kind of cute. Just doesn't fulfil its original purpose.

justmeokay · 10/07/2015 20:41

A gro egg is an egg shaped, temperature obsessed, hot headed dictator - in my experience.

MrsTerryPratchett · 10/07/2015 20:49

Here it is the little bastard.

purplemurple1 · 10/07/2015 20:51

I just used a thermometer that way its accurate although my two dc care not a jot what clothes they need one is always hot and the other is always cold.

contractor6 · 10/07/2015 20:57

This is hilarious! I am 30 weeks and keep thinking its measuring my heat not the room!

Nothingtodowithme · 10/07/2015 20:58

I sold my gro-eggs (I had one for my son's room and one for the living room, just in case, you understand) because they were always sad with me. I still have a baby monitor that beeps furiously to let me know that it is "Too Hot"! in his bedroom most of the time.

eggyface · 10/07/2015 21:00

justmeokay I LOL'd Grin

MadAngryGnome · 10/07/2015 21:01

Our gro egg was furious for the first few days of its life. It sat glowering at us from the corner of the room and we actually cheered when it chilled the f*ck out cooled down a bit. We only got the full smile very occasionally. I think it needs some Prozac tbh.

Today we just use it to check how efficient our heating is!

TSSDNCOP · 10/07/2015 21:02

Ours was never yellow or orange. Only blue or red. We tried so hard to please it, but it was just too highly strung. It is the Kim Il Jong of thermometers. It should really live in fear of CIA drones.

Totality22 · 10/07/2015 21:02

Mine is languishing on DS'S bedroom floor (unplugged) but if he wakes it makes a nice red nightlight. Luckily DS likes red and doesn't realise the redness means "THIS ROOM IS SO FUCKING HOT THE END OF THE WORLD IS NIGH"

I've never, ever had it at the optimum colour... in fact I didn't know it had a 'yellow' until I got it out for DC2.

LibrariesGaveUsPower · 10/07/2015 21:02

Find the mute function You can normally stop the beep Though not the flashy lights.

justmeokay · 10/07/2015 21:03

I might give it a cold flannel tonight, and some calpol. God bless calpol.
